I had the honor of attending a toast dedicated to the new Princess of Bastion at the Badger Tavern. In addition to her Grace, Princess Liara, those in attendance included Princesses Lark and Sabella. Quite the formidable duo to have socially flanking our new Highlord!

Whomever House Bisland employs to see to the interior design of the estate here in Arx has a grim sense of humor. They've placed a taxidermy turkey outside of my private quarters. The sad, wall-eyed creature is caught in the perpetual state of just having taken off in flight. It startles me almost every time I open up my door!

In her most recent letter, my daughter broached a subject trickling down from the headlines here in Arx - of whether or not it's appropriate to look down one's nose at someone for their concern, or lack thereof, with the moral ambiguities of ...certain foreign goods we covet here in the Compact. I did not have a ready answer for her. One does begin to wonder how many stacks of silver in the banks of Arx and elsewhere in our lands rests likewise compromised by the ugliness of tyranny, slavery, and thralldom. The remnants of it may forever tarnish the insides of our change purses, whether through our families personally taking part or through the price of that complacency we reach for in the name of peace.
Sure, it seems the natural thing to thoughtlessly applaud those standing tall in defiance, particularly to a young girl rich with formative idealism, but I told her that I reserve my praise and she ought not to dole out hers so rashly. The economy of the Mourning Isles, as far as I've been made aware, is yet tender. A delicate and ambitious shift for Good is underway. Provoking what might escalate to a trade war in such a climate... well, I'm no financier. I just happen to have one on retainer.

I'll never understand this want for sloppy exhibition. Were there rumors abound of a member of my family stepping out on the tenets of Limerance and producing a bastard child, which has been the case at least once in our recent history, I would not wish for it to be literally proclaimed. To carry on so before the common folk, using official means to issue personal apologies, diminishes us and only gives credence to gossip.

I had the delight of my niece's company at the morning concert at the Bard's College put on by Prince Talwyn and Master Evaristo with an accompanying performance by Lady Braith. Good music was had and even better news, what a wonderful way to begin the day!

I never thought I'd see the day when my nephew took to the battlefield of bureaucracy over that of sword and shield but here we are! Change takes so many welcome, unexpected forms. His efforts locating a suitable plot of land to donate for use by our local chapter of Mercies, in Faith and in charity, give much continued hope for the future leadership of this family.

I feel highly favored to be in the presence of my niece's intellectual largesse. Even now, she toils on preliminary efforts to curate a library dedicated to the education and instruction of Lagoma's healers. It's a feat I doubt I could have undertaken personally and yet, for Lailah it seems second nature.

Had I been aware our estate here was home to a peacock, I might have better prepared myself. Did you know that they peck at their own reflections in nighttime window panes? Not a particularly wise move in my opinion. Not to mention, really very startling to wake up to!

The Kite Festival organized by my nephew and Princess Marisol was a treat and a balm to my current physical state. Although Pridehall isn't so far off from Arx, it's nice to see some traditions carried over, especially with new friends.

Our residence here in Arx is about as theatrics-filled as I've come to expect. Alright, maybe a little bit more so! Ah, what would this world be without my brother volunteering to take on the weight of some gruesome necessary task?
