Gods and monsters and men all obey the supreme law of numbers. Mathematical truths do not change from moment to moment, and no lie, no matter how cunning, can alter their judgement. One can seek to bend them for a time, but the cruel edge of reason will always snap back into place, within the fullness of time.

I really shouldn't be so hurt by being stung by the scorpion, but I really wanted to believe.

I'm going to have to have words with my dear uncle. That apple could have done a lot more harm than it did. ...At least my costume seemed to be well-received, even if no one else showed up in one. And my uncle doesn't count. He always looks like that.

I've had these two random pieces of crimson seasilk for nearly a year. I should probably have something made out of them, eventually. But what?

I cannot properly express just how wonderful it is to have strawberries back in season.

Sometimes, one must simply throw caution to the wind. Progress by inches is insufficient when one's foes advance by the mile.

I am so glad the awful winter is over. Back to wearing normal clothes again, and not a moment too soon. I also need to remember to stockpile more strawberry preserves this time around...

How exactly *does* one pray to something that is asleep? Aion's nature makes it remarkably difficult to approach, from both an observational level and a theological one. Aion dreams the world into being, which includes humans and other assorted sentient creatures. Those creatures then have their own dreams. Do those dreams then have their own substance? Can materials and objects and even *concepts* generated within a dreamworld be brought forth from our dream into Aion's?

If so, does that mean Aion waits for us, just beyond the veil of sleep?

So, my birthday and my one-year anniversary of moving to Arx was last week. I will admit what I found in this city was neither sought after nor expected. But I cannot bring myself to regret the decision to come.

Eurusan Sand. A dragon's scale. Meteoric iron. Something priceless. Potential. Something that isn't there.

And other times someone comes crashing into your office just to scare the spirit out of you because they thought they were clever. You know who you are.

So much feasting. So many parties. This is my first winter in Arx, and I do not understand how people can frolic and play when it is so bitterly cold outside. I think I shall stay inside with my books, thank you very much.

To be honest, being Inquisitioned wasn't that terrible. They were terribly polite about it and didn't dunk me in water even once. I even got a nice certificate of non-wickedness out of it.

I am glad the King is well, but the endless celebrations seem to be a bit much. Each major House is trying to throw a party, but after a while, wouldn't they just become exhausting? Being a Monarch must be rather exhausting. You can't rest when it's peaceful, you can't rest when there is a war, there are always people plotting to kill you, and we know practically nothing about our neighbors. It must all be terribly tiring.

To be perfectly honest, I sometimes wonder whether the gods themselves care so much about numbers, ratios, and differentials. Does one actually need to understand the function behind the working of a prism to create the rainbow beyond? Does the velocity of an individual raindrop factor into the creation of a thunderstorm?

Finally, things are looking up! Ever since the Refugee Relocation Committee evaporated, it seemed like nothing interesting was going to happen in the legal world of Arx! Maybe now I can finally purchase a new bed somewhere. Maybe even a new tub, too!

Arx has been pretty quiet lately. Honestly, I found more work during the Siege than after. I never expected the lawyering life to be glamorous, but I'm starting to miss the excitement of the Silent invasion. A scrivener's life isn't usually the stuff of legends, after all.
