I ache to see my son. Leaving him at Glacial Grove is made harder by knowing that being there troubles his sleep. I have asked Charlemagne to keep his days busy with sword practice and Faith study - I know I can rely on him for both to protect and prepare Charon's heir. I have also asked him to keep Trevor out of Fidel's wanderings into the forest.

Journal Days are also sauna days for me, Trevor, and some of the others with us here. I look forward to today's with eagerness; it will be our last before we take the early voyage to Glacial Grove. The Crown's call hastens our preparations there over connection-making here.

I doubt this evening will hold its usual relaxation, and even if it did I would easily trade that for the sharpening of my thoughts. Something tells me that this particular passing through the grove will be especially hard on all of us.

You can always know when a story is well told by the teller's ability to coax from you something you had not meant to feel. Even better is the teller who can tease out what you had not intended to share.

The sights, smells, and tastes of the bazaar, a story about the power of our weapons enchantingly performed, and my favorite of the city's seasons casting out its snowfall. These have been fine days.

A few days ago, Trevor overheard us talking over preparations to return to Glacial Grove at the city's first thaw. Since, his nurse has come to me daily to tell of his troubled sleep. It will be months away yet, but that isn't a comfort so long as he knows we are still going. One day he will grow used to it. Sooner than most, I hope, for not having the memory of any home other than the one we've made here. Until then, I can spend a few nights sleeping in a chair in his room. The Gilded Page has piles of stories I can try to distract him with.

Relationship Note on Ida

Sometimes the need to indulge is undeniable. If we were not in the Thirteen Days, I might allow myself a feeling of regret. It is not the season, and it is not a necessity. Yet, I marvel and celebrate.

I'm told Trevor's sleep was less fitful than the night before. I cannot help but wonder if passing through the grove as we returned took hold of his dreams.

We should have kept to our plans to save our return to Arx to autumn. The cold that lingers at Glacial Grove had me misthinking that the city would be less brutal in its summer heat.

Its a contrast I find odd, though we are not so many years in those lands to know its peculiarities. Odd or not, there is the matter of food to consider, with the seasons' plantings thwarted for so long.

Stifling though it is, Arx better positions us to make arrangements that will see our people through the coming winter, through the coming year.

Relationship Note on Corban

I was able to meet with Sir Corban Telmar this week to discuss the future Academy of Limerance. He has literally written the book on honor, making his assistance in the academy something that would very much give it some backbone. He has agreed to give an opening lecture as well as help source a library on matters of oaths and fidelity to keep at the Academy.

I have returned to Arx after traveling home to see what progress has been made with Glacial Grove. It gave me an opportunity to induct the latest cohort of knights into our family as well, though I am saddened to report that not all have passed their Trials.

When we took the Glacial Grove from the bands of Shav'arvani that had been using it, the locals held, and still hold, all manner of superstition about the grove itself. They say it is a place of powerful fear. So I thought what better way to make a statement about the power of the Faith conquering such superstitions as well as providing a tradition that could bond these men and women into a unique knighthood? So every knight is required to spend their final night as a square contemplating their upcoming vows at the center of the grove.

Ridley Stonesworth did not make it out of the grove alive.

Five others did and we have added their names to the rolls of Charon's knights.
