They smiled! I swear they smiled. The nannies told me I was mistaken and it is because I have either have had too little sleep, or too much brown nut ale. I was also told no, I could not make camp in the nursery. I do not snore no matter what they say.

I am starting to understand why many of the higher nobles have nannies and do not try to take care of two new born twins on their own. I think Princess Alarissia took pity on us as just last night we were told we have a nanny, and have no say. It could be because people in Thrax actually wanted to sleep. I did not think the twins were that loud, but I have had bee's wax in my ears since they were born.

What do you give a Princess Consort who either has everything, or with a snap of fingers can get anything. Certainly not newborns. My wife would kill me, and not sure her Grace would be any friendlier to me if I did. Nope you give her a painting of the Queen of Squirrels, done by said Queen of Squirrels. I hears Doreen did it in the same red tree sap my cousin tried to poison me with.

I have noticed every has wishes the mother and children well, but never the father. It has been a long nine months for me. I had a pregnant wife who has a very large and vicious axe and wicked temper. I am lucky she only took away my ale!

I have red spot all over my hunting leather, as if someone had flung paint at it, or I was freshly shot with an arrow. Not shot with an arrow (I think) and no one flung pain at me, so this has to be that damned sap, and it is all my cousin's fault. Now I need new hunting leathers.

If people ever wonder why I write about the superiority of brown nut ale, a dash of tea in a Laurent honey pot, and how I work my way around my wife's attempts to keep such simple pleasures from my life, after droves of people with pensive and angry faces coming too and from the archives, now you know why. I am a simple solider in the end, and life for all of us just too short. Find joy, find mischief, find pleasure even in the small things. You have no need to court misery and strife, it can find you easily enough, especially in my profession.

My first attempted to bring commanders across the compact together to socialize and start to communicate, to look to the day in the rapidly approaching future where we all might be in the same organized force one day had mixed success. The sentiment I am told was noble and true, but there are great divides where trust between some of the great houses is little, if nonexistent. Still it was not a waste of a night and I feel if we continue to have such events, then trust cannot help but grow. If we can work a way to at least begrudging respect, then I see it as a victory in itself.
