Redrain's fleet survives. While damages were heavy, the most of the fleet remains serviceable, and we will now be sailing all that are seaworthy back to Arx.

I want it recorded in these journals that the men and women of Redrain, Crovane, and Ravenseye proved themselves more than capable. I am proud of my captains and my sailors, and I am gracious that the chiefs of Redrain gave me the chance to lead. Let the Compact know: Redrain can sail with the best of them. Well, okay, some of us in Redrain.

Thank you all that served and Spirits guide all those that are returning with us.

This whole journal thing is still new, but I can't say I hate it. Recording my thoughts, and some folk will actually read them? That's fun.

So here it goes: Setarco has treated me well. Or, more so, the Lycene nobility has treated me well. From princesses to low born lords, almost everyone has been in a perpetual good mood. I've also been informed marrying Prodigals is in fashion. How bigly do I need to win this battle to become Princess Kaede?

Hah. As if I could live in this fucking heat.

I'm also hearing about writing wills. Figure I could do that, sure.

The things I own are: My armor, my dagger, my sword. They are all currently on me. If I die at sea, they're probably going to go with me. If they're not, then return it all to my tribe, House Ravenseye.

I also have my constant companion, Whiskey Jack. He's a gray jay, trained to deliver messages. If I die, I'm hoping he has the good sense to fly away and come back eventually. If he decides to stay among humans, then I want to make sure he's guided to Eilonwy. He can help her, and I know she'll take good care of him.

These will things are easy to write up when you don't own shit.

Seen so damn many surprised faces when those massive red bears on the sails come into view. Can't say I don't enjoy it just a bit. Though I need to make clear, my people have been sailing and fighting forever, and even in this damned heat, I'd put any of my sailors against any other fealties'.

Which isn't to say there's any reason to fight. We've all been working so close together, and I've quickly learned to trust the other admirals. Truly, the Compact's fleet is an incredible power to behold.

As for the rest of it: Setarco is hot and expensive, and I can't say I've grown to appreciate the city itself, but these Lycene nobles sure do know how to have a good time. I think it helps that a Northern Prodigal is exotic and mysterious and that's a good thing, here. Whatever the case, there's a lot of work still to do, and while I wish like hell I could be back home, this is far from the worst place I've been stuck.

My tribe bent knee to join the Compact when the worst of Brand's forces were sweeping the North. I can't help but wonder what choices my chiefs would have made if they knew the nobles of Compact could happily endorse tactics as bad as the one's Brand used.

And look, it's the same Princess that was flirting with a Thraxian Reaver as the man told me women had no business being the captain of ships and telling me how we should know our role, that is so eager to defend the monster and write about forgiveness.

Perhaps we ought to write the coming storm a letter? We understand his tactics are extreme, but they were done in defense of his people, and we're a forgiving lot, so we'll gladly give him back his kingdom?

Captain's Log - 12/20/1007

I sailed into port three days back. Already been pulled into a war meeting and told I'd be advising on matters nautical. It's funny watching folks try to understand that Northerner can sail. Not only that, but we also have big, big mountains back home. Not a flat-lander. Not a land-dweller.

So far, I can say that Arx is a whole lot warmer. Considering those icy winds just started back home, it's a relief. Don't let anyone from the North fool you - just because we CAN survive the cold doesn't mean we like the winter up there. Admittedly I'd probaby melt living in Southport, but the point stands.

Now to find myself a new sword and something to do with some free time.
