Roofus has been leading me all about the city on walks lately. Dear reader, know that if I ever offended anyone by bringing my dog somewhere, it was very probably not intentional.

A side note-to-self: some sort of very interesting honey whiskey to be found at the Trader's Tavern. Need to send someone back to get a few bottles for the manor...

Once again, I find myself in the city of Arx. Dear reader, it has been far too long. While I love my dear, noble, ever-interesting family, I will also love a bit of time away from them and from Graypeak. A bit of change should be refreshing.

I will very much like to see how the city itself has changed in my absence. Perhaps I might meet a friend or two to help me re-acclimate? I could certainly use one. And a protege, if the opportunity presents, and then it's been far too long since I found a good tailor, or a jeweler, and as much as I love my Banda, hearing a new bard might be nice, and...

Well, I could sit here writing about what I wish I had all night, but it's such a lovely evening. Perhaps I'll take Roofus on a walk and see what I might see.

It's rather eye-opening to return to the records of one's journals every now and then. Moments of time captured by ink upon page lend insight into the mood and truths of the writer's past in the most profound of ways.

My goodness, I was pretty exuberant! Not a bad thing at all (some might say that's arguable) but I have definitely changed since the time when those journal entries were scribed into memory. For one thing, I'm no longer in any great hurry to pursue a political match within the contracts of marriage. Such a thing will arrive when it arrives, but there's no point in rushing it

Either way, I will have plenty of tasks to occupy my days, and many projects to consider in order to enrich the fortunes of my house! I've the duties of my faith to consider, of course. So too will there be much study and research on the horizon, I should think.

So much study, actually. Gosh. I should get to it right away, Scholar!

Is it possible to love a cup of coffee so much that you want to marry it?

Because I think I hear wedding bells.

Well the research project that I was heading up returned interesting results just.. apparently I am no good at this. It was a flop. I wanted to know who built the great stone docks of Arx and now I have something about Cairn Valardin!

I suppose I'll be reaching out to the Scholars next, as I probably should have in the beginning.

A star falls from the sky and into your hands. Then it seeps through your veins and swims inside your blood and becomes every part of you. And then you have to put it back into the sky. And it’s the most painful thing you’ll ever have to do and that you’ve ever done. But what’s yours is yours. Whether it’s up in the sky or here in your hands. And one day, it’ll fall from the sky and hit you in the head real hard and that time, you won’t have to put it back in the sky again.

Relationship Note on Malcolm

You know what's been the biggest surprise since I arrived in Arx? This guy.

He went from being a really really really distant cousin I barely knew to one of my closest friends and allies.

I don't know what I'd do without him.

Also he showers me with presents. He's so thoughtful!

He is so demanding of his poetry.

One must stay on their toes if they are to please the King's tastes in prose.

I got a bird and a dog! They're such wonderful company.

The bird is a mourning dove (get it?!) and she's a very soft tan but she looks like she's blushing a bit around her face and breast. She hatched just six weeks ago and makes delightful sounds when she wants to be fed. (I'm sure others in the Shepherd Manor beg to differ) But now since we are through the baby stages she's learned how to deliver my messages. I've named her Maude. I believe it means 'Might in Battle'.

The dog is, of course, a grand-doggo of Boofus and is appropriately named Roofus. He's still just a puppy and is mostly just here to keep my feet warm at night and to eat. Eventually one day, maybe he'll even be formidable.

I've been spending a lot of time at the Shrine of the Queen. I enjoy every minute! I choose the later hours... I don't know why, maybe because it's quieter. Most of the time my only true company are the little spiders. It gives me time to read and reflect and also I find the few people you meet in the middle of the night interesting!
