I was fortunate enough to run into Messere Gerald Wilkerson the other day at the market. He proceeded to give me a wonderful deal on starlight silk; I have enough for a handful of dresses, which is likely all I'll need. I do highly recommend his services for anyone seeking someone capable of acquiring materials. I have honestly never seen someone as proficient as him.

I've had the most daft idea. One I'd need help for, though. If Shard is out there anywhere... well, she'd probably glare at me at the very least. Possibly spit? Or maybe it would even get a laugh. A very sad laugh.

I've paid a visit to the Artshall District to check in on the new chapter of the Bard's College being built there. The foundation is there, strong and sturdy, and the acoustics will be amazing if all goes according to plan. It's significantly smaller than the College in Arx. Sometimes we still clear out older rooms in that building, discovering new things. Dusty things. A lot of sneezing is involved.

I think I'll see about Fortunato painting more nightingales in the new chapter, as he did at the Conservatory in the Whisper Palace. I think it was Fortunato. I'll have to consult my notes.

The Autumn Challenge items in the Crafter's Hall are quite lovely. I encourage everyone to take a look.

I have retired! From Whisper House. We remain staunch allies and I look forward to our continuing partnership. I learned much during my time as a Whisper, and those lessons have taken me very far indeed --- Whisper House has my eternal gratitude.

So. Party?

I do wish I had managed to attend the Taste of Arx - word is it was a very good time. I've been busy with a new project; I get out and about less often than I used to, certainly. I recall a time when I attended almost every function, but it's been some time since then. There's so much work to be done. Still, I really do need to get out to show off the new design I've been working on. And I have a tiara to go with it, too.

The outpouring of affection and praise for myself and the College is very much appreciated, and coming from some unexpected places. Thank you. It is good to see that beauty, song, and art are so valued, and the support for the commoners that are the majority of the College means the world. It has always been important that the College let the voice of the people be heard, and it has. Of course, the people stopped mocking a target when they could no longer defend themselves.

I can still defend myself, and it seems others will defend me as well.

Relationship Note on Talia

Every time I step into Elegant Impressions to work out a new gown, I pause and gaze at the seraphim steelsilk gown there. I can't help myself. While I come up with the ideas for most of my clothing, that gown is beyond anything my imagination could have ever dreamed of. It is the pinnacle of dress design and craftsmanship, and my heart aches for it.

I have a particular relationship with clothing and fashion. When I was a child, I had nothing but castoffs and stolen items. I very purposefully had nothing anyone would want, because then I had nothing for them to take away. I dreamed of cloth that wasn't scratchy, of shirts and leggings without holes. Of sturdy shoes that didn't leak. I barely dared to dream about silk.

When I came to Arx, the first considerable bit of silver I came into was spent on a silk dress, slippers, and a bit of garnet jewelry to fit in places other than the Lowers. That's a story I've told many a time, and that clothing was a stepping stone toward the success I enjoy today. I gave up that dress for what I consider to be a good cause, but every other dress I've had made is tucked away in my suite at the College. I even wear them multiple times, to the horror of some. The jewelry, too, from the simple pieces I could afford when I was starting out to the epiphanite and dragonweep I have today. I can't throw them out. I still wear them. While I own a considerable amount of luxurious brocade, I also keep more common staples in my wardrobe. Items most commoners could afford, perhaps with a bit of saving, and I wear them proudly, because it shows that such expense isn't required to be fashionable, to be striking.

But that dress... that dress makes me not care if people can afford what I wear or not. I just want it. It is of such dizzying expense. Perhaps I could just try it on one day...?

Relationship Note on Juniper

I liked Sister Juniper Godsworn. I remember meeting her when she joined the Whispers. We came from similar backgrounds, the two of us: very little to our names. Joining the Whispers brought us up in society, and we both used that status. But we used it to different means, and our paths diverged.

Juniper used her status as a Whisper to mend relationships, to work as a diplomat. To heal and provide aid to the poor and downtrodden. I took the more glamourous route and urged her to do the same.

When Juniper became Godsworn, I attended the ceremony, though I didn't understand why she did it. I still don't, to be honest, but I respected her decision and I quite liked her.

She is to be respected.

The Whisper Palace at Aviaron's Peak is a stunning place. We've put in so much hard work. My personal addition to the project was that of a conservatory, a place to teach and learn music and hold concerts. What is civilization without music, after all?

I'm told the ceiling is painted with nightingales, which are Fortunato's work, and the stage is silver. I intend to make the journey there one day, and I encourage others to do the same. It is a wonder to behold. I want to sing there, to test its acoustics. If everything was made to specification, they should be glorious.

It is my pleasure to announce my support of Mistress Josephine Arcuri's bid to become Guildmaster of the Crafter's Guild.

Mistress Josephine is a jewelsmith of legendary reknown, know throughout the realm as one of the most talented smiths to ever fashion jewelry. We see her work often at the hands and throats of many a citizen, be they noble or commoner, and indeed many of the realm's most fashionable people sport her creations. Her talent is supreme.

Talent alone does not make a Guildmaster, however. Mistress Josephine is a pillar of the community, a reliable rock to steady us all. She contributes so much of her wealth and time to those around her, including other crafters – more than one crafter, fresh from the farm and without materials to ply their trade or skills, has been given the materials they need or coin with which to purchase them by Mistress Josephine, in addition to the coin fronted by the Crafter's Guild itself to help establish new shops. She has said to me that another name in the guild is another honour to Jayus. She already acts in the interest of not only herself, but the guild in general.

Mistress Josephine contributed significantly the Twainfort University and funded the majority of the Commoner Games as well. She is obviously very capable at organizing massive outpourings of support to accomplish things for the public good. Why not give her more power to do so in the Guild?

I'll count the new branch of the Bard's College at Cascade Springs as a success! When Lord Arik approached me with the idea, the College was still a very new organization. His faith in us has proven well-founded. The Northlands have long had a very high representation among bards historically, after all. I thank him for the opportunity.

Is there anything quite so thrilling as performing a concert? Especially one with new material written by myself and Prince Niklas. Singing in front of so many people, holding all their attention... it's marvelous. It's like what I imagine flying would be like, my spirit soaring. I am never happier than I am when I am singing. And the critics liked it!

Relationship Note on Saro

I am absolutely delighted with the College's new luthier, Miss Saro Uliveto. She showed Captain Evaristo and I an absolutely gorgeous instrument, a crwth she made herself. I'm glad I gave her use of the workshop to show us her skills. I'd never seen a crwth before. I showed her our citole and I'm sure she can replicate it.

For those unaware, there is a workshop in the Bard's College which sells instruments. Members of the College do get a discount, but anyone is welcome to them.

It pleases me to have named a second Mockingbird for the College, Captain Evaristo Arterius. His dedication to music is quite evident and his goals align nicely with the College's. Another set of hands just might be useful in the coming days.

Lady Delilah's party at the new observatory was interesting. I enjoy any kind of game where gemstones are involved, particularly if you get to keep them at the end. I won a rather handsome set of haircombs and am trying to decide on a suitable outfit to wear them with. Sometimes the acquisition of a new piece of jewelry gives me an idea for new clothing.

I'm afraid I get rather seasick, and so I shan't be attending the upcoming event on the caravel. However, the book launch celebration sounds fun, and Lady Monique always has interesting prizes. I've another gown I've been dying to wear and jewelry to match.

What a lovely birthday celebration --- thank you to everyone who came out and to those of you who sent your regards.

Thank you to Whisper House for loaning the chocolate fountain, or at least not protesting when I spirited it out the other day without telling anyone. It was for a good cause.
