the duke has made his position quite clear as the head of House Telmar, and as far as I can see, House Valardin also stands behind the good Duke in his decision. Any amount of griping, loud exclamations, or complaints from personal friends or fans will most likely fall on deaf ears. Or simply very stern ones. An offer was made by the duke, and that will likely, in my experience with my liege, be that.

the amount of vitriol that some people who repreatedly escape or reduce their own judgments due to their own popularity with the powers-that-be (and who are forgiven every insult or horrible behavior due to these connections) are flinging about is astounding and dismaying.

I wash my hands of every single one of you. All of you, although I do hope many will realize why I have to, for a time, take this measure once the fighting is done.

I may hold my own opinions about many things Aleksei chooses to say and the man himself that I will, from here unto the forseeable future, refrain from saying, but he is correct. Lord Everard /was/ the Sword of Telmar at the time of the incident, I believe.

However, this still gives him absolutely zero right to release the sword to anyone, any more than I could release Ida's store to another just because I live there and am entrusted with the keys.

it was not backhanded, it was an insult. perhaps one wrongly put forward, as you have pointed out, and for that I will apologize, but I was straight-forwardly insulting him for the fact he directly and very much candidly insulted the house I serve.

That being said, it was wrong to stoop, and for that, I apologize.

Relationship Note on Aleksei

except they aren't waving away responsibility, despite having absolutely no obligation to hand over their House Weapon, as pretty much literally /everyone/ in this situation agrees. They have agreed they have responsibility, have attempted to work it out with the offended party, have engaged a neutral third party in attempts to mediate the situation, and now engaged with the faith to mediate. They have, for all intents and purposes, made every effort to honor the harm done to the people involved, it seems.

You made one of the most solemn vows it is possible to make, and then broke it. Whether the Faith has decided it has been sufficiently suffered for or not, I can hold my opinion, just as you can, that's the beauty of the Whites. just as your choice of coarse language does not make your arguments any more comprehensive. However, I have made my opinions known, and have decided it is probably best for all concerned if I go back to my training and leave such things to those with the stomach for them.

having read all responses, my response, for the public record, remains exactly the same. inflexible? Perhaps, but I can tend to be on matters of honor, it's a habit of mine.

the issue that the sword had no right to be bet is entirely, completely central to the argument at hand, since your proclamation demands we relinquish it when he had no right to offer it.

If the Voice promised to make this up to you? then that is well, for a dishonor was done by this bastard of a traitor while he was still part of House Telmar. However, unless said Voice offered you this sword (and I have seen no evidence he has and in fact utterly has denied this), then the recompense does not need to include a House Sword that had no business being bet, could not be bet, and thus has no right to be held by anyone other than the chosen representatives of House Telmar.

As it stands, you seem to have rejected all efforts to repay this dishonor, and I wash my hands of you. As a personal measure unrelated to House Telmar, no words will evermore be spoken between myself and Bliss Whisper, save in matters of life and death should we be together on the battlefield against other foes.

I leave the particulars of the recent proclamation to be decided by my Lieges, but it is my understanding that no House Sword can, at any point, rightfully give away, bet, or otherwise relinquish their House Blade to another. This, it simply cannot be an honorable thing and therefore not a thing to be followed through. Combined with Everard, may the Gods curse him to eternity, being a traitor and very much deceased, renders this null and void.

However, I am no law student or a Lord of the realm, and my opinion is merely that. If I am factually incorrect, I am open to being corrected by one who would, beyond a shadow of a doubt, know the truth of such interpretation.

I do not know the Baron Norwood Clement well, having run into him on only a handful of occasions over the years, and briefly at that, but he has not only served his house stalwartly for decades, but also saved his Liege's life on more than one occasion, has undertaken great and daring deeds on behalf of the Compact, and also, to my understanding, played a pivotal role in securing a long-disputed territory that he was given charge over.

In my humble suggestion, one should take all facts into consideration when attempting to compare points and situations. That is not to say I have a full understanding of the recent troubles, for I am hardly 'in the know' of political matters.

Since this is becoming a trend, I suppose I shall partake.

In the event of my death, on the field of battle or otherwise, I want for my weapons and armor to be given to Ida, along with whatever mortal wealth I possess, to do with as she will. It is a paltry symbol, but I know she would do good works with it. If my body itself can be recovered in something resembling wholeness, I would like for it to be sent back to the Telmarch, to be buried by my family in our family plot, as if our tradition. Long have the Dastrid's served the realm in various capacities, and it would be my honor to rest there, with my kin.

It's a lovely spot really, near by father's forge, in a small valley under the protection of fine, hardy evergreens, with a babbling brooks singing most of the year nearby. In the spring, cardinals and bluejays roost upon the stones, and the morning frost at the end of the year gives a solemn, peaceful purity to the scene that I cannot ever quite describe in words alone. It is a feeling in my heart, and treasured much. But I pray, to all the Gods, that while I will do my duty, and not hesitate, that they will see it in their mercy to allow me more time before I join them. There is still so much to see. So much love to give. There is still so much left to the dance.

Contrasting thought, in relation to your metaphor about the guard at the fire: If the guard stands near the fire, but with their eyes turned outward, they can bask in the warmth of it, while keeping their sight ready for what comes.

While those who fight the darkness must always be on the lookout for it, and be aware of its ways, but mindful of straying too far from the light, lest the darkness surround them.

Start a book club! Read books! Ride horses, ride the waves on a ship! Learn how to paint, to dance, to sing, if you haven't mastered those already! Learn how to use a blade, or an axe, or a quill! Learn to write poetry, or collect small momentos or wines. Go diving for pearls, or spear-fishing, or grow a garden!

...I realize I have had a lot of time for learning or thinking about hobbies over the years.

For all your woodworking needs, I recommend Bell Bookcases and Cabinets, or Coldrain Crafts. Both are managed by quality people who I have nothing but respect for, so I do have to pitch them both. I can speak for Adora's shop in particular, she makes incredibly sturdy and reliable furniture.

Just don't taste her beer.

I would never condone the stabbing of anyone in the city who did not either do something criminal to deserve it, was part of a friendly spar, or an honor duel. HOWEVER, if you are going to stab someone?

Look no further than Ferron Arms & Armor! Located east of the City Center on Merchant Road, Dame Ida's shop is a place of quality and refinement. Never a dull blade or inferior steel here! No my good friend, Ferron Arms means /satisfaction/ from all who buy! So for all your stabbing, chopping, and slicing needs, think excellence! Think Ferron Arms & Armor!

I write this from a river boat, where I battle the horrors of sea-sickness (turns out, I'm still terrible at water travel), pondering the events of the past couple days.

On the one hand, it was exhausting, dangerous, and perhaps not even /that/ productive for the person who hired us to come out here. But on the other?

I got to ride a furious mountain bear. That's the type of thing you remember for a while.

I am beyond pleased that you enjoyed the gift, Oliver, and overjoyed that soon you will be able to use it! Although I'm told there might be need for two of them, so still a chance to make your own!

You heard it here, dear Ida, you made an excellent choice! Going to save a copy of that one for future use, scholar, if you don't mind?

To lie is against my knightly code, of course, but there is nothing in there against simply providing a term, once asked! What they do with it after that is on their own soul, truly.

I knew all those sessions sitting there and listening to my father go on about armor were good for something.

The actual part that rotates up and down to protect the face is called the visor, usually. The part it slams down onto is called the Bevor, or Beaver, at times and depending on the land. So your hand was bitten by a beaver, if it comes down to it.
