Relationship Note on Dacian

Whatever happens, wherever we end up, I will find my way back to you.

I enjoy exploring the city during the winter. While most find the season biting, it allows me to consider both new and old places from a fresh perspective. I know some of my fellow northerners could agree to that, and it pleases me to meet those from elsewhere willing to brace against the cold.

Lord Titus's stories are always intriguing and this latest round of tales has inspired me to learn more about some of the fine weapons held by our Compact's houses. To have heard people sharing and speaking under a beautifully snowy sky only added to the evening's charm.

I am so thankful for our queen. Surprised, intrigued, and in awe of her as well, but at the moment mostly thankful. May rest be given to all who need it in this fine city, knowing they are being watched over and cared for always.

The Lodge saw a number of hands helping with this year's autumn harvest. Though the weather is still a bit warm for my tastes, I find the season to be a sentimental one. Certainly, it seemed like people enjoyed themselves, and there will be plenty of jams and pickled produce to last through the winter. I hope that's something I can say for years to come.

Relationship Note on Ann

I am so glad we finally got the chance to do all the things we said we were going to. The ride through the forest was enchanting (Farstride enjoyed it as well) and the dinner was superb.

To many more outings such as these!

Relationship Note on Mathis

I appreciate all the Archlector has done for me recently, introducing me to new people, showing me around the Lodge, and generally being an inviting and wise person. It is nice to the wooded paths more clearly now.

I am struck by the depth of this world and the people who walk among it. At times, thinking about it lifts my spirits, yet at others it darkens my day with worry. With each stone unturned, there are more questions and wonders than before. What is the right path forward, or will that always come down to a gut feeling or leap of faith?

I must remember to take more opportunities for trips into the forests. They are good for me, as they are for Farstride. It is good, also, to now know someone I would not mind joining me on such endeavors.

Even though the excursion was brief, I return to Arx refreshed.

Stories are powerful things. I was told one recently that has stuck with me so tightly that I have caught myself longing for the stars as one would an old friend. It may sound silly, but I enjoy remembering their faces, all those people I have lost along the way.

I had the most pleasant time recently when joining a hunting party in the Crownlands. To be outdoors all day, away from the constraints of the city, was a true joy. I could also not have asked for better company; though we had our missteps, we came together in the end to enjoy a successful hunt.

It has been too long since I had a day like this and I am reminded of how lively I feel in the woods, running.

I had the distinct pleasure of spending a night at the Sleepless Knights in the company...of many other fine knights. Yes, when this was organized, the play on words was intentional. While it was a fine way to build camaraderie between the various Orders, mostly it felt good just to talk and drink with men and women who understood the sort of life you led. The weight of some parts of it, and the unique merriment of others. It would be a fine thing to make this a regular sort of drinking night. I may even enjoy more Valardin milk. It does not better than whiskey, but it has its charms.

I am not entirely sure what pleases Gloria, but I hope the goddess of valor would smile upon one of the finest sparring bouts I've ever had the pleasure of partaking in. It was myself and Sir Austen against Sir Porter and Sir Brannen of the Knights of Solace and, even if my brother King's Own and I ultimately were taken down, I am still proud of how we held the field and defended one another, and in the end yielded with good knightly comportment. All honors to Sir Porter and Sir Brannen for their good and clean win, as well. It was a fine day which reminded me why it is both useful and fun to train outside the barracks, and I look forward to more matches like it. Next time, three on three!

I was afraid to look upon the Cathedral when I heard of what had befallen it, and the awful deeds done there. As I helped break and clear the rubble, I tried to dwell upon what still stood. The bell tower, much of the walls, and many hands willing to tend to it. Even if it won't be again what it was, I've faith something good will be rebuilt around the bones of it.

I have tried sledding on the Judgment Green and found it to my liking. It was not quite the same as racing down the hills with my brothers on planks of wood in the hills near Farhaven, but it was a fine distraction, and grand to see the city children find such joy in the winter season. I often feel far from the land that made me, but there are pieces of it here if I look hard enough.

Relationship Note on Emberly

We live in troubled times, what with the looming threat of foreign aggression and quakes of the ground and such.

So it was an even greater pleasure than usual when Lady Emberly allowed me to run and play with her fine hound, Pickle.

He is a very good boy. I am unsure of his heritage, but I find hounds of mixed parentage of often the strongest and wisest of beasts.

He is a jolly creature I am happy to call friend, and today was a good day.

For my participation in Valardin's Rite of Gloria joust, I received a lovely figurine of my mount, Farstride. As a gift this was much appreciated and I shall display it proudly. It also gives me opportunity to reflect on the time I have spent in the company of Farstride in our journies. She was my family's gift to me when I rode south with Prince Darren's forces in my first campaign as a warrior, when I left the Northlands to fight the Silence in the Siege of Arx. She has carried me throughout the Compact in my service to King Alaric since I took the oath to serve the King's Own, and was beside me when I battled the Gyre's forces. There is a comradeship between a rider and their warhorse which is difficult to describe if one has not known this bond. I cannot describe it with proper eloquence myself, but I am gladdened that there is now a small statue in tribute to her that I can enjoy.

I was among those who rode in the tilt of the House Valardin's Rite to Gloria Jousting Tournament, and it was one of the finest days I've had of late in the city. It was a grand thing to see so many cavaliers engaged in such sport. I feel it ages since I've had a good joust. I had the honor to ride against Princess Sorrel Thrax, the Bladesong herself, and Lady Adalyn Clement. Both were fine competitors and sturdy riders. I was unhorsed by Lady Adalyn but I cannot feel too poorly about this, as she was the winner of the day all around, and deservedly so.

Relationship Note on Porter

While I know Sir Porter only a little, in our brief acquaintance he has struck me as a man of great might, boldness, and merriment. I had the honor to witness his vows to the Faith and Knights of the Solace and it heartens me to see one such as this take up the sword for such a cause. All knights seem the better to have him among our number.

Relationship Note on Shard

A woman I knew not save in passing, though she has loomed large in my thoughts these last days. An old friend of mine suggested we were alike in some ways, though I never grasped precisely how, and did not take the time to ask when I had opportunity. If she has fallen, I give my prayers to the Queen of Endings that she finds rest or honors in her next life. If she lives, I pray perhaps we shall meet again one day, and I shall know myself enough to have the right questions to ask.
