It's been a while since I have made a journal entry so I will start with this.

Drinking an excess of incredibly strong Redreef Rum to the extent that I win a drinking contest will mean that you will need at LEAST a full two days to recover, especially if continuing to drink after winning and going on to post contest celebrations.

I can't remember too much but it was all an experience.

Relationship Note on Ryhalt

Palamon didn't lose to a falcon. They lost to Splinter, an osprey.

Regardless I thought that Duke Ryhalt did exceedingly well at the small contest, especially given how awkward his owl was being!

I have returned to Arx, but it would appear that my time in the city will yet be short. I await my assignment in the upcoming conflict, but with a willingness to serve wherever I am needed in Magnotta's name.

My archers are ready to fight. Never have I witnessed a more disciplined and efficient archery force, and it is truly an honor to lead them. People will soon be speaking the name of the "Talons" and their contribution; if not only in the Cyrto Islands themselves. And young children will begin to dream of one day joining their ranks.

Yes, my "Talons" are ready, but is their commander? In Magnotta's name and for the Compact...I most certainly am.

As the "Talons" motto states: Soar. Strike. Slay.

I have come to the realisation that I really don't like babies and toddlers. Whilst they're tolerable when older since they can be reasoned with, for the love of the gods if you /must/ bring these squalling squealing little people out in public, keep their sticky fingers out of my hair.

It has been a strange week, what with Lady Aahana and Palania returning to Arx. I wonder where they have been these past two years? Since she herself has no answer for that, it's unlikely that anyone will ever know, least of all me. There are stranger things in the world however, so I won't let it worry me overly much and just accept it for what it is. A blessing.

Oh yes, scholar, the most important piece of news and I nearly forgot! I now have a diamondplate bow. She is magnificent.

The dinner last night was a triumph, though my cousin delivered some news that nobody could have been expecting. Lady Aahana and their daughter have been discovered after having been thought dead these last two years. I wonder what stories she'll have to tell.

I also discovered that there are uses for chocolate of which I'd never imagined.

The more I learn, the more I realise just how little I know. It could be frustrating, but I refuse to give into frustrations. I shall keep asking questions and I shall keep continuing to grow.

Ambition is the path to success.

Slowly I am slipping into my new life here in Arx. Today I took Splinter up to the memorial park, the one through the east gate that looks over the beaches. There is joy to be found in watching something so natural as an osprey in flight, and despite the cold I fell asleep on a bench. I woke near frozen to the core, but was quickly revived by some whiskey offered to me by a stranger.

I long for spring, though what that might bring s we move towards a potential civil war, also places a shadow on my heart.

Here I am in Arx. Well and good.

On the recommendation of a dockhand who helped me ashore with my belongings, I immediately sought out Brother Felix Meadson. He put the keenest edge to my blade that it feels quite new again.

I've a good feeling about Arx. Now to meet with my cousin.

I decided to travel from Southport to Arx by ship rather than journeying overland. Splinter certainly enjoyed the novelty of the sea trip, alternately flying ahead of the ship and oft-times perching in the rigging to watch us scurrying like ants beneath him.

I've the permission of Duchess Calypso Malvici to join my cousin Count Domonico's house. I shall henceforth be knows as Lady Desma Magnotta and not Malvici.

I do hope that my letter reached him ahead of my imminent arrival.
