One of the first people a Cybele met when coming to Arx was Princess Sister Sophie Valardin. She was not Mother Mercy then. She smiled at Cybele and told Cybele that Cybele was a gift from Lagoma. Cybele was happy to be gift. Cybele learned from then Archscholar Aldwin and Princess Sister Sophie about gods. Thought maybe they were powerful spirits. Learned more. Learned different. Learned that Aion dreams spirits like Aion dreams other things.

Was so happy to be Mercy, to serve Lagoma. Cried with joy. Got to teach many things to novitiates. Got honour of being named Voice of Mercy when Mother Mercy Princess Sister Sophie Valardin became Mother Mercy Princess Sister Sophie Valardin.

Is sad to say goodbye to faith, to not be disciple. Is sad that Aldwin Dominus is not having wisdom held by Aldwin Arcscholar.

Will still worship Lagoma and show respect to gods. Gods are not spirits. Spirits are not gods. But they exist together.

Cybele will cry now. Will miss serving in House of Solace.

Bye

I do not read as many journals as I should, but I have been told that there are many comments being made, now. That my tribe is mentioned. Their ties to the Rex'alfar. So I will tell, abbreviated, the story of my tribe. Who they are. What I know of them today.

The Children of the Sun and the Moon say they followed the White People - the Rex'alfar - from the far south into the Everwinter. They were as gods to us, distant, appearing maybe once a generation to pass some edict and then withdrawing. Occasionally, they would show benevolence to us or others - save a tribe from starvation. Prevent a war. But most, they were myths, like the human-eating snow shadows, or the tales of a mad mage.

A few years back, a messenger was sent. It was the first we had heard from them in generations, first in living memory. I was chosen to treat with them, and it was an honour.

I went further north, far beyond the lands even my tribe travels to. I went to a Tower made of Ice, and I met the White People, who were tall and beautiful.

And there, I saw the Pale Man, Tolamar Brand. And I saw what he truly was - a hole in the world. A void. And I fled, panicked. I fled as far south as I could go. I was captured by Halfshav. I bent the knee. I went further south still, to Arx, and spoke to those who would listen about what I had seen. I helped, as I could, I learned many things.

Tolamar Brand and his army of Silence was defeated. I am thankful for that.

I learned of gods that I now cherish and people that I consider my friends and family.

And I worried for my tribe - had they been consumed by Tolamar Brand's Crusade? Were they still alive? Were they slaves of the White People?

Then Cleo came, and told me my tribe had hid, for fear that I had not returned. That my tribe is alive and well, and doing as they have always done; keep the Everwinter and their places. Treat with those who would treat with them, and war with those that would war with them. But overall, they are so distant that only Halfshav scouts tend to treat with them with anything approaching regularity.

If they wish to bend the knee, they will bend the knee. If they wish to stay Abandoned, they will stay abandoned. I am Prodigal now. To have contact with enemies of the Compact is against the law. I am grateful Cleo arrived and let me know those who were once my family are still their own.

Believe my words, or not. Cleo is a gift to me, as Mother Mercy Princess Sister Sophie Valardin once declared me a gift to her from Lagoma. Cleo has given me the peace I needed to keep moving, growing, changing.

Cleo is my gift from Lagoma, and I am grateful for her.

Cybele has many thoughts on gods, and spirits, and old gods. But perhaps these thoughts, if written down, should be offered to personages of the Faith to ensure they do not offend first.

Cybele was asked to write what a Cybele believes.

A Cybele believes the world was created by a Dreamer, whom we call Aion. Cybele believes all the worlds are their dream, and that there are eleven emanations, virtues, ideals in this dream. We call them the gods of the Pantheon, and they are the embodiment of what we can aspire to. They are good things. We pray for their guidance in being the good people. Cybele especially favours Lagoma, our Lady of Change. When Cybele arrived in Arx, Cybele met Mother Mercy Princess Sister Sophie Valardin, who made Cybele see that the gods are not just powerful spirits. Cybele spoke to many wise people, like Heart of the Faith Blessed Father Orazio Legate of Concepts.

Cybele takes comfort in knowing the Lady of Change encourages and purifies, that in devotion to the faith, we can make ourselves better.

This is what Cybele believes. Not to the exclusion of the other gods. Cybele is quite fond of Vellichor also. And of Petrichor. Ask Cybele about Petrichor some time.

Cybele enjoys all the gods, and enjoys seeing their influence in the world.

I have passed on the old locket I found to Fortunato Grayhope. He is a good man, I'm sure he can paint it and help the owner get reattached.

Today as I was walking to the house of Solace, I found a locket lying in the gutters of honour walk, the northern end, almost by the redrain ward. There's no picture in it, and it's bronze-y and very careworn. If anyone misses it, they can write me, I think. Or maybe I'll just leave it in the House of Solace.

Mother Mercy Sister Sophie Valardin has asked me to take over the training of the novitiates. It is a great honour, and a task I look forward to taking on. I like talking, I like training. I will, of course, not be training all of them, but I will speak to them and try to assign them to mercies who fit their temper and skill, and I will get to meet every new Mercy who joins.

That, to me, is also a very exciting thing.

Thank you Mother Mercy Sister Sophie Valardin!

It will take some time, Sister Sophie Valardin has said.

But with my engagement in the Physician's College and my love for Lagoma, she has agreed to start training me so I may one day call myself Mercy.

I look forward to learning more.

I have learned much since I came to Arx, that I am grateful for. Yet I find, still, that I turn to the Spirits and seek their blessing and their wisdom. That even as I walk the halls of the Academy, of the Archives, I listen for their whispers and allow chance to guide my steps.

It is, perhaps, not the most efficient way to find what I am looking for.

But it is working.

Arx is a city of secrets. Some of them are kept on purpose. Some of them are kept for good reason.

Most of them just require finding the right person to ask.

I have spoken to Sister Sophie Valardin on the nature of Lagoma. It was enlightening. And I taught Sister Sophie a few excercises to center herself.

Lagoma is an intriguing god. If I were to worship like the Southerners do, I expect I should swear myself to her. Thankfully, that is not a necessity to be counted among the Faith of the Pantheon - it appears many worship all of them?

Still, as lady of liminality, as the harbinger of change and growth, granter of peace and mercy...

I can't help but feel like there are similarities to my own path.

I am to learn the religious practices of the Southerners. They write in journals, and the pages are bound in books with their name - the white journals a public record. The Black Journals for secrets of the soul.

We have similar rites in the Everwinter - where anyone may leave their mark in stone or wood. And there are sacred sites with hidden learning.

We do not have so many rows of scrolls and books, however. It is a little overwhelming.

Hello, nations of Arvum. I am Cybele. I hope my writings will prove of use to some.

Please note that the scholars may take some time preparing your journal for others to read.
