There are several functional differences between a curved blade and a straight one that more experienced fighters than I can describe.
But my personal favorite is that a curved blade is less likely to get inconveniently stuck in the body of your enemy.

A straight blade is best for a quick, close-up thrust past an enemies weak point. A curved blade is harder to parry, has a bit more flash and flair.

To my cousin, Lady Sedna,
You may take as much issue with my late father as you choose. However, it will be a bit of a one-sided argument, as he is rather too dead to respond in the Whites.
I resolved to never be weak again, but that was not a resolution to abandon femininity, and I would be happy to have numerous lovers write to you and explain that to you in excruciating, horrible detail.
Besides which, even within the realm of warfare, there is an important truth that many traditionalists of the Isles either fail to understand, or understand and wish was not true. Relationship Note on Sedna
I did not know what to expect when Lady Sedna responded to my advertisement for a protege. I was prepared to have some vapid conversation or at least one about art that was over my head. What I found was one of the most sincere people I have ever met in Arx. I was inspired and moved by our conversation, and already I look forward to the next.
