Things have changed since you last came to our lands. We are in the process of freeing our thralls and ensuring that they either find homes elsewhere, if that is what they wish, or that they have well-paying, productive jobs if they choose to stay. Educating them, if necessary, at great expense. And in doing so, making ourselves a target of men and women who have no honor.
So do not presume to know my reasons for anything. You very clearly know nothing of me, nor of what I've done, to be able to judge by. You don't even seem to understand that what I wrote about Mistress Zyanya's words were not a criticism of her, a person whose company I've enjoyed in the past, but rather of a place that she was singing the praises of.

I've had a few opportunities to meet with Mistress Perronne over the past month or two. In each it's been a fascinating experience, one that has left me the wiser for it. While luck might not have been with her at the Kismet Carnival - next time, surely! - I have a feeling it will be with her in her future endeavors. Each time I come away with more thoughts of my own for how to apply and improve the efforts of the Raconteur. Any land would be fortunate to have one of her trading houses within it.

I had the loveliest dinner with Verity and Perronne (hosted by the latter)! It is so nice to just have a good bottle of wine, some pie, and some shaved ice (very expensive! very tasty in Summer!) and catch up with friends.

Ah, but striving for the impossible is exhausting, so perhaps choose a select one or few things to strive impossibly for at a time. Unless you like being perpetually exhausted, or are marvelously tireless. I like lying on my back and looking at the stars sometimes. But art is as often driven by our failures and our periods of watchful quiet as it is by our laborious successes. It is perhaps a spoiled cycle, but here we are.
(As a side note, though, I can't say I ever much cared for platinum, though. Simply not my aesthetic.)

It's been difficult to write lately, both physically and emotionally. But I would be remiss if I didn't make a note here than I am thrilled that Mistress Perronne Amboise accepted my offer of patronage. She has the exact right knowledge and attitude to help me accomplish great things in the Knights of Solace. And while she is more than capable of accomplishing great things of her own with no help from me or anyone else, I am excited to see what she comes up with.

In skimming journals I've been motivated to consider a little bit on the role that Tehom plays in all aspects of my life and that of others, though that is the same for all the Gods.
I would encourage deeper reflection if one shies away from knowledge of Tehom because one does not 'like' him. Though the Gods are all representing parts of humanity, they are not human, and our affection for any particular deity largely irrelevant. It changes us, because we are adaptable creatures, able to change ourselves continuously. Moving past that to consider what The Thirteenth's deeper purpose is helps us to determine what we might wish to change, as well as how. What the dogma of Tehom would encourage is spending /more/ time, not less, examining the parts of you that make you uncomfortable. For while it is undoubtedly true that one ought not dwell...those who look deep into the Reflection regularly benefit from that constant examination. "Who am I? In what ways am I likely to submit to darker impulses? How can I prevent myself from doing so?" A life un-examined does not necessarily offer up the answers to these questions, nor even the questions themselves. The Thirteenth can deliver many a cautionary tale, and usually it amounts to how important it is to know the self. To honor the God who teaches us to seek that knowledge is hugely important.
The Mirrormasks are always there to add clarity, to listen thoughtfully and serve to counsel those struggling against the darkness, that they may subdue it in order to better know, and be, the light. One can certainly consider themselves to be a reflective person, trying to continuously improve, without paying much heed to the Thirteenth. Yet it remains that His gifts to humanity are real, and as important as those of any other God in the Pantheon.
I would phrase it as you do not need to fear Him. We must fear /ourselves/ for that is where the pitfalls lie...and Tehom is here to show us what to do about them. If we look.
