Relationship Note on Mabelle
After hearing the news of Lady Mabelle Laurent's death, I was deeply saddened.
Upon my return from what was presumed to be my death, she was one of the people who welcomed me back and had questions to ask, all of which I answered in kind.
She was generous and always willing to lend a listening ear, as well as provide information. I had many questions of my own, which she took the time and patience to answer.
It was thanks to Lady Mabelle's idea that I could revisit the place of my family's death, learn from it, and draw strength. Lady Mabelle never judged me, and she never asked for a price in return for her help. Despite having met for only about a year, I considered her a dear friend.
Mabelle the Builder was a woman gifted with a unique vision and the will to make her ideas come true. Artshall is fortunate to have had such a dutiful, faithful, loving daughter and is all the poorer for her loss. I will miss her and hope to see her again in my next turn of the Wheel.
If I could have my opinion heard regarding who deserves to be in the Oathlands' section of the Hall of Heroes as an addition, it would be Lady Mabelle the Builder, Mabelle the Stalwart, Mabelle the Generous.
May the next generations of the Oathlands learn from her what it means to be dutiful.

I'm just going pretend that you did not leave us. I will continue to write to you as if you will write back to me. I know why you did what you did and cannot say I wouldn't do the same if we had not decided to fight with Lenosia. My beautiful cousin, this is not an easy journal to write, but I will do my best. You believed in me when no one else did. You shared with me when no one else would. You wrote to me when others were silent. Throughout it all, you were there and I will indeed miss all of our chats, all of our gossip, all of the talk of fashion even if I could not be bothered with fashion at all while you always glittered. I am sorry I could not be there for you. You will forever and always be Lady Mabelle Laurent of Artshall.

I once yelled at Mabelle and my kids over cookies. She offered and they, being kids, accepted. I went off briefly on Lycene food hygiene and never accepting food or drink which wasn't tasted first.
I've since calmed down. And I trusted Mabelle enough where she could gladly give my children cookies.
I saw her love for Artshall, and the arts in general, and sweet things. But even honey is made by a bee, which will sting to defend its home and hive.
Also like a bee, that sting will cost her life. I don't think she regretted or hesitated that sacrifice at all.
I've since calmed down. And I trusted Mabelle enough where she could gladly give my children cookies.

Relationship Note on Mabelle
Mabelle was there for my first scouting mission. It was in Bastion, after the attack. I was nervous, scared even. I'd never done anything like it, but I was determined to help. So, Mabelle gave me a cookie, she held my arm and we kept close. We protected each other and I felt stronger because of her.
You were a kindred troublemaker. A generous woman and a creative spirit. A friend for so very many years.
I will make sure your art collection returns home to Artshall, in a manner befitting of you.

Relationship Note on Mabelle
It feels like I was just congratulating you and excited for your upcoming marriage. I could only imagine all the elaborate cakes, and the opulent fashions the ceremony would have involved. It's hard to believe you're gone, and it's not happy words of encouragement I write now, but a friend's eulogy.
Was defending Artshall with your life the noble thing to do? Of course it was. Mabelle, you did what was right, and honorable. Many will now live thanks to your sacrifice. It's a comfort that it wasn't for nothing, and that you chose your time and chose well. Should we all survive this, I hope your name is never forgotten.
I wish you could have seen that horrid black tide of demons break and fall away from Artshall's walls. It was a victory you deserved to savour with us.

I knew that there would be losses in the days and weeks to come as we face the horrors of the Abyss let loose upon our beloved Arvum, but this death is one I will mourn for years to come. We all should.
Lady Mabelle Laurent came to be a far dearer friend to me than I think I ever let her know. She and I, when we put our heads together, created wondrous things. She was a brilliant woman - as smart as she was fashionable. Her genius will last beyond these horrors, beyond these lifetimes, and I am sure it will inspire generations beyond. From the creation of exquisite fabrics like starlight silk (I owe some success with windspun wool and peachskin to expertise and support) to her charitable works with the Honey Havens to her artistic preservation endeavors in galleries through Arvum to her extreme dedication to Artshall, she worked tirelessly on projects that few could forget.
More personally, she trusted me with something that I still don't - and may never - know the full consequences of. She trusted me on a whim, and for every single person who benefited from the protection of certain malissite necklaces at Harrow Hall, she is owed thanks. She is the one who removed the barrier I needed removed to gain the guidance I sought in order to create them. She also helped in creating the solution used to destroy the thorns at Harrow Hall, and if my newest project is a success, she will have had a hand in that, too.

I am overjoyed that you've secured a goodly marriage to a proper Oathlander of a reputable house. I know you will make a splash as Marquessa Mabelle Harthall, and this union will bring unimaginable prosperity to Fair Harbour. The wedding too, will be spectacularly and fittingly grandiose. I'm looking forward to it.
Now it would be terribly selfish of me to say all that, and yet still wish that you'd not leave your present home and House. So I'll not do it, even if it is strange to imagine you as residing elsewhere, and no longer answering to the name, Lady Mabelle Laurent. Everything is changing!
So my friend, please try not to set fire to anything in your new home on the islands, and may the gods bless you and House Harthall.

This lady knows how to throw a party. I will not be looking at plums the same way. I can't believe I called my dish something worth painting about. At least I had fun. That is what matters, right? I think so.

Relationship Note on Mabelle
My cousin is genuinely amazing, and I wholly regret that we don't get to spend more time together. The things that she has accomplished are the stuff of legends. Whether the task is a new fabric or rebuilding a city, she seems to manage it almost effortlessly. I know, of course, that it takes a great deal of effort, which is a testament to her tenacity.
We managed to meet for a bit today, though not to gossip or talk about the fashions we both so love. Sometimes, especially these last few years, there just isn't time when there are so many other challenges before us. Still, the warmth of the Laurent library and shared goals are things I am grateful for this day.

It is always wonderful to spend time with my cousin. She is effortlessly beautiful and incredibly intelligent. Any one would be so lucky to be in her presence and now I am taking it upon myself to keep my eyes and ears open to find her something of a political arrangement. Perhaps I will host a gathering at the Fidante Villa. A Honey and Roses themed soiree. I am sure Mabelle will love it!

My first day back and Belle found me, she really does know how to bring out the mischief. It's so nice to just be around people that I had honestly neglected by holing myself away. Maybe it's time to slowly branch out now and again. Get out and see more than just four walls. Though she'd probably throw me to the wolves.

The world may be gripped by winter, but I have received a warm welcome back to the city, so far.
And my hair is so soft! And smells like honey. How would it do in a perfume, I wonder, if it has such staying power?
