Relationship Note on Jasher
The Assorted Adventures of Denica and Jasher Thrax.
Jasher being, the very honourable person he is, once vowed to protect me. This meant, I had to pull him into all my schemes. That is the appropriate thing to do to one's reserved and stalwart cousin.
Our first escapade was at a gala in Maelstrom. We were suppose to do a stomp-stomp, serious dance. I invited the Compact and the Traditionalists. But, it was also a chance to influence culture. So, in the middle of the proper stomping, I break away. A twist! I went to the other end of the room and ran towards him. Jasher grabbed and hoisted me up above his head. I stretched out my arms like I was flying. In that moment, I felt free. It felt like we were dancing on His grave and that felt great.
Once at a proper family dinner, I decided to cause a little trouble. Jasher, was fully engaged in a riveting conversation about plate armour. So I stole a couple crab legs from his plate. I used a crab leg to wiggle at Astrid. She was totally onto me and I wanted to make her laugh. Astrid, saw an opportunity to try to throw something at me. Luckily, Victus has a keen eye and caught her just in time. But, sufficient to say, other people reacted. Which was entirely my fault, but Jasher went down with me, willingly.
Another time, I was frustrated a certain cousin got judgy that I was fighting with weapons and helping others. That attitude bothered me. So, I came up with a plan. I managed to convince Jasher to stage an argument with me at fealty event I hosted. It was very dramatic. Because really, we were going to fight in front of everyone. In front of, said cousin. Denica versus the Sword. Because change isn't easy, so that's why we have to do it. We start by bringing everything into the open.
I glad you are out there somewhere, doing great things. Even if I miss you. I think about you when I cause trouble. I picture that look on your face. The 'concern and care' one. There's this little vein in your forehead. The twitch. And the sigh when you know I'll do it no matter what, so you just came along, in case I needed help. We all do, every now and then.
Growing up wasn't easy. So because of that, we tried to love so much. We knew how important it is to love hard. It might hurt, but it makes us better. It separates us from an unavoidably cruel world.

I had the occasion to spend some time getting to know my patron's dear cousin at the Whispers gala. What a fantastic idea that the Softest had!
While we certainly have not become best friends, there was a certain earnesty to the conversation, and I am not sure if we would have had that opportunity otherwise.
That we were able to win the contest certainly helps - I suspect he is just as competitive as his cousin!

Relationship Note on Jasher
A bottle of rum, shared tales and memories of friends who have gone, a shoulder to discretely weep on and not be pushed away, nor taken advantage of in a weak moment either helps face life's problems. Speaking of dangers faced, worries that become nightmares, there are not many to whom one can talk about those things. Such shared times build a good solid friendship.

It took Jasher and I a long time to form a friendship. We were, I think, introduced by Lord Domonico a few years ago and the three of us and a few others spent so very many hours at the Southport Training ring observing techniques, teaching, sparring talking, sharing histories. He was one of my small weapon students, I even gave him a dagger with his name engraved on it on completion of one of the lessons. Despite the time gone from Arx, when Jasher came by for a visit, it was like old friends falling into the same habits with comfortable conversational patterns, and mutual support over life's bumps. He was kind enough to escort me to a winter event while my husband was out of the city.

There is definitely enough rum to forget it all for a night or three. Maybe longer, depending on how much silver you have access to. The problem is that when you sober up, it will all likely still be there waiting for you.

After returning from assisting Prince Jasher with his training exercise I must say I am cautiously optimistic about what we have achieved. The newly released thralls that had joined the navy have made a good, disciplined start.
If only the rest of the Isles would have the same discipline and trust in their fellows then the unrest may not be quite what it is now. Perhaps I am wrong though.

Friendship grows slowly but steadily, accepting each other's quirks, faults, and strengths. He's someone to whom can confide weaknesses and they do not think less of me for them. We can pass hours in conversation or companionable silences. It is nice to have someone accept you for yourself.

An amicable escort, though I regret that it resulted in such a headache. Good thing I knew just what to do to ease that. Mistress Valerie's pouches of herbs did the job nicely. I expect that won't be the first headache I give Prince Jasher, so will have to add shopping for more to my already lengthy to-do list.
