Relationship Note on Ilira
I confess that there are times when I feel adrift, when I wonder whether I am, truly, doing my best, or even whether it matters. I am certain that many people feel this sort of tumult at times, and for the most part, it always passes.
I say this, not to complain, but as a backdrop for last evening, when I entered the Queensrest Inn and renewed a most delightful acquaintance. Is there anything more exciting than to find someone who may know the same truths that you do, even if they might see them in a different way?
Tumult eases again into the calmer swell of deep waters. Much as shadows are all but banished by brilliant light.

My friend,
Many have said the very same thing to me, and seem surprised given how little I say in person.
When I was younger and barely a woman, we could not afford parchment or ink. My mother and I lived from room to room. I spent twelve hours or more a day working; she spent the same time drinking. What I saw or could see I wanted to talk about, but had no one to speak to; as kind as my employer was, he had little time to entertain the idle musings of a scullion. And as it would be of little consequence now to gossip or mumble among Peers, I put what thoughts I think are deserving of memory to these Journals.
Those who speak little may have much to say, but are careful about doing so.

I spent a most wonderful evening with Ilira Whisper. It is not often I have the opportunity to visit the Whisper House, so when the invitation came, I was only too glad to accept it. The true delight, however, was the conversation we shared. I am perhaps in the minority when it comes to admitting that a very difficult question was posed to me, and I am grateful for it. We should all be so fortunate as to have someone in our lives who can present us with such questions, as well as patiently listen to our answers.

Have I ever kept warmth from you? I cannot tell, but I am reminded of how members of a clowder oft pile atop one another in cold months upon soft blankets.
Perhaps you ought to ask the Princess Alarissa for one of her many illegitimate feline heirs. I am sure she is willing to part with a few. They provide excellent exercise if you choose to chase them; however, watch out for furniture.

Miss Ilira Whisper invited me to visit the Whisper House Aviary today after I had offered to cure her ailment. Where others might feel peace there, though, I felt artifice. The prevailing struggle against predation that pervades nature was absent, and my feelings about that absence surprised me.
If civilization is just a construct of man, and man is just a being of the earth, is the artifice of peace truly unnatural?

I recently met with someone I hold in high esteem. She visited the manor on a splendid summer evening, and shared a drink beside the clavichord. Being in the presence of that enchanting reminder of my wife may have influenced by mood, but my guest, in contrast to many of power whom I encounter, possess some imperishable fire. There is a great warmth felt by those she chooses to let beside that flame, and in pleasing conversation, I found myself forgetting all save a moment of shared humanity. A quick word, however, shattered that dream, and I was, again, the instrument of war that I shall always be, whether reviled or held sacred for my purpose.
Such is the fate of all nobles who strive to keep their oaths.
I later visited the Shrine of the Thirteenth to reflect on the letter of Princess Sorrel, and was met by Sister Giada. She spoke with me, and in her wisdom set me to an exercise that, in pursuing, I have found myself becoming an ever more prefect instrument, a sharper sword in the hands of Prince Sebastian, Princess Lucrezia and the Archduchess.
Yet I opened a missive recently inviting me to the Empyrean, where I spoke a while with the Whisper Ilira. I imagine that if a life of war does not make me a monster, it will be on account of those words from the lips of a Whisper reminding me what I'm fighting for, what can be gained with victory, and the pleasure of stolen moments between friends.
