Was introduced to the Princess Gabriella today. She seems quite an intimidating woman. And she so happened to walk in, when I was teasing his highness the archduke. I can only hope she didn't take it too seriously, and that it hasn't put a black mark against me.

I must hire better messengers. He said he had delivered the message to the Princess herself. Do not see how that was possible with her back in the city only very recently. I feel shamed my words ever cast her in a poor light, and must remind myself my name is not like it was back in Leonica. Some patience is needed to be practiced.

I tend to not believe much claptrap about when people say things about the people and nobility of Setarca. I am after all from the heart of Velenosa lands, and there is still bad blood upon the water/ Perhaps it is why the Princess did not even respond to my offer. For myself, I am but a simple armor smith with a desire to see all soldiers and more of the Compact protected, and I know my work compares favorable or better to what is out there. My cousins say I should be better off than I am. Perhaps I would be if my own work effort was different, but alas I cannot let a person wear one of my work without it receiving the refined care I give it. I have even lost money because of my work effort, yet still provided quality craftsmanship at the end. Perhaps one day my name alone will be enough. It is clear such is not the case today.

I have been reading the responses to the question posed with considerable interest seeing I have only relatively recently become Count Magnotta and thus 'ruler' of Caer Morien and the lands and peoples around it.
The first answers that came to mind for me were as follows.
Quality - Intregity. If one cannot act with this how can you expect the same from those that follow you?
Flaw - Arrogance. Such a trait can blind you to other flaws as well and begin a downward spiral into the worse of tyrants.
I may be wrong with these, after all, being a ruler is different from being a military leader but I believe there may be some parallels.

An even keel. The ability to keep doing what you do without losing perspective, without losing your head, without getting overwhelmed or doing stupid shit. Nothing else, no other qualities matter, if you can't maintain them day in and day out. Being a leader isn't for one month, one year, one crisis.
An echo chamber. If your people, your advisers, are so scared of you that they're unwilling or unable to call you on your shit, you're going to veer off to crazytown right quick. This is where people who might have been great leaders turn into twisted versions of themselves.

Anything short of it is not good enough.

Self-sacrifice. A ruler should be concerned with the grievances of their people and seek to fix them constantly, until it leaves them haggard. They organize others, when things must be organized, and otherwise keep to themselves.
That would be the only way to justify someone being in a position above their fellow man.
False superiority. If they demand celebration for themselves, if they believe they are superior to others for intangible things such as lineage or blood, this is the most damning.

The Princess Gabriella is such a powerful, astonishing woman and a great warrior. Her stories inspire me endlessly. I couldn't be luckier as to be the one to compose her ballads. I only hope that I can do her tales justice! With my pen in hand I must write a work worthy of her.

Some languages are spoken by only a handful of people. When I have the opportunity to interact with those who understand it so joyfully and profoundly, I can't help but find myself reinvigorated.
