Relationship Note on Dycard

One answer, Lord Blackshore, is that a game, or a song, a play, truly anything meant to be experienced by others isn't finished at a desk, but with its intended audience. Revisions made, lyrics changed, rules adjusted. Find people who will give you their unvarnished opinions, and trust what they say.

But I am no entertainer, perhaps some who are can weigh in about their processes.

What a beautiful event at the Blackshore Manor. I suspect the coins handed upon entry will soon become collectibles, lovely idea!
I do need to get my hands on a deck of cards of that Queen game.

People have returned from Sungreet, and new information still seems to be tickling in. Just when I thought an opinion had formed, something changed my entire perspective. I feel fortunate that nobody wants or expects an opinion from a silly little flower girl, so I can take my time soaking in all the information.

But there's one thing I know for sure - I am so, so glad that you made it back alive, Lord-Captain.

You went to Sungreet without warning me!

For that, I will certainly teach Mr Snuffles to aim for your boots next time he suffers from sea sickness.

Relationship Note on Dycard

Whenever I purchase my own boat, or dinghy or ship or whatever it is you sea-men call it, it will have character. It shall have an essence, this lady of the sea, she'll be an extension of something dreadful and baneful; of something evil and fatal.

I can already see it. A place like my boat will be overgrown with tall grass, weeds, it growing out so much from its own blackened wood that it needn't even have a 'keep out' sign. But it will anyway- it will have a sign. It'll come in the form of a skeletonized puzzle; a horror of bones patched together from all manner of man* and beast, glaring from a crucifix to ward off any would-be adventurers, thieves and fruit-philanderers. Slugs will crawl through its eye sockets and arteries of army ants shall pulsate across its many limbs, for they'll be my allies, these ants. They'll be part of my crew.

With some luck, it'll have enough space for a cabin and some hammocks in the deepest, darkest recesses of its under-deck. Wait, 'under'... oooh, my boat will also be able to go underwater, and resurface anywhere it wants. I'll achieve this through some horrible means* of disputable nature that I'll not disclose here.

Most of this is a joke. I hope it isn't too upsetting, custodian of knowledge.

Relationship Note on Dycard

While at first glance one may believe the Lord of Blackshore to be not unlike the average swashbuckler, tis' but a guise;

In truth, there in the miasma of rum surrounding him belies a learned man, of robust moral integrity and strong imperative for what is right and is wrong. More importantly, his fascination for boats and drinks and things tells he's too aware of the something-somethings that make the usually stale everydays here in the Capitol much more easily dealt with.

Here's to his success in finally acquiring himself that caravel,
If not, I'm sure he'll happen upon some other dinghy worthy of a flagship.

Dycard.

It is my choice to speak from the heart and let my feelings flourish. So long as my decisions are my own, then I will have no regrets even if I get hurt in the end.

I know you mean well, but I would rather you stop caring than continue to tell me what to do and how to act. If you are displeased with me, then walk away.

Liberator.

Relationship Note on Dycard

I am here in Arx to aid your capable and distinguished sister, Dycard, and I will not leave because you have somehow grown a backbone in our time apart. Unfortunately, it is an undignified and disrespectful backbone that does more harm to your family than good. Speak privately if you have some grievance. I shall be expecting your direct correspondence.

Relationship Note on Dycard

It has not truly been that strange to me... that both of the commoners who have striven quite rudely and incessantly to impose themselves into my attention, whilst I was conversing with others... have done so with your name in their blistering mouths, Dycard.

How are you entertaining yourself in Arx, I wonder?

A truly benevolent lord must forgive the rabble. Especially when they have been so misled by encounters with the lawless dandies that this city appears to be rife with - have you not found your perfect place, Dycard? I, myself, am disappointed by the capital. Even the Iron Guard have no respect for the rules of society and civilization.

We should endeavor to reconnect soon. I look greatly forward to seeing Skye again. From all I have heard, she has done me very proud, and I hope to build upon the strength of House Blackshore as immediately as possible. This is a turbulent time in history and we must all do our very best.

I feel like I should write something of this man; and yet, I find myself utterly dumbstruck.

I shouldn't be surprised - and yet, I am:

Utterly and completely dumbfounded.

I think there's a drinking contest I'm supposed to judge.

Dycard,

When I first realised that we were related, I must admit that I was disappointed.

However, now that I've gotten to know you better and confided in you as you have me, I must say that I am more happy than words can express to have a piece of my family by my side.

I don't say these things lightly. You have your faults, but the Gods know I have mine as well.

I'll chose the liquor next time.

SUBJECT: LORD DYCARD BLACKSHORE (addendum#1)

Dycard,

I will always take Dianna's side. Fiercely and without question. Your journal was hilariously inappropriate, but as a writer of the dangerously inappropriate, I don't think any less of you for it.

I'll bully you and tease you because I know that you can take it, but I really liked the honesty you poured into it. I'm sure you'll learn how to be a friend sooner rather than later.

I'm rooting for you.

Relationship Note on Dycard

SUBJECT: LORD DYCARD BLACKSHORE

At first, I dismissed him as nothing but a sleazy flirt with entirely too much silver to his name and time on his hands. But, the longer I spent with him the more I realised that he does seem picky about the people who chases, and that overall, he just really likes to flatter.

He's a flatterer.

Harmless, guilible. I do hope that he is aware that he is being taken advantage of. He is the perfect target if you want to squeeze a free drink out of somebody. (You didn't hear that from me. I mean, you did-- but you didn't, you'know?)

He was the only one that I met that day that didn't try to hand me sacks of silver and take me shopping for footwear though, and for that, I thank him. I find that I don't know what to do whenever I am being treated like a chairty case and people wax lyrical about Gild. How do you politely tell someone to take their God elsewhere?

He even brought 50 silver worth of flowers from me to give to a woman he wished to bed! It took him forever to hand them over to her though, and I was so close to snatching them out of his hands so I could do it myself.

Maybe, when my shop opens, I'll offer a delivery service.

Overall good company. Made me laugh once or twice. Not as stuffy as I expected a Noble in Arx to be. Social standings aside, I hope to get to know him better - and when I do, I'll add an addendum to this journal!

Do not think of how poorly you performed, or that you did not perform well enough to elevate your Rank.

You will only waste your time by thinking as such. That you performed the test at all is a testament to your resolve and desire to grow and learn. You have identified areas in which you need to study further, so that the next time you take it, it is with the confidence to know you will pass. I have faith in you, that when you are ready to retest, you will do exceptionally better than you did before. Pass, or fail.

Secretly I still think you have some knight buried in there somewhere yourself Dycard. Thank you for your words, knowing you to be one who knows, it means a lot to me. And while Sir Coraline would certainly be fun I think I can only push convention so far before they decide to dump me in the ocean and leave me there. Baby steps, little baby steps of change. I think Dame Coraline will suffice just fine.
