Relationship Note on Cristoph
It may be reassuring for you to see the Iron Guard in the city, but it's not so reassuring for those of us who have to do business. I doubt it's reassuring for the carters who're trying to convey goods into the Redrain Ward, one of whom had been sitting in the queue for an hour with fresh fish spoiling in the sun. I doubt it's reassuring for the merchants whose wares land in the Lowers and then have to go up the roads to feed the city. It's definitely not reassuring for me, either. I can't afford the time it now takes me to get something to eat in the central market. I have to set out an hour early if I want to go anywhere with a checkpoint - which means I have to set out early to go anywhere, because I never know where the checkpoints will have appeared.
I've been searched three times today. It's not doing much for the state of my temper, and I doubt it's doing much for the safety of the city either. All it's doing is inconveniencing those who travel and those who work and those who do business across this mighty city of ours. And if they try and put a checkpoint across the main road from the Lowers, well, that's going to get interesting given it's where most of the food comes in.
Although, thinking about it, people will be more inclined to sell their wares in the Lowers if it means they don't have to join the queue to get out. So roll on! Checkpoints everywhere! Search everything! And let's have prices in the Lowers drop to next to nothing as a result, because getting out to the rest of you will be far too much like time and effort.

My cousin is a wise leader faced with difficult decisions everyday through which he navigates admirably by using reason, experience and careful observation. I am proud to be of his kin and service and for the responsibility he bestowed upon me and will continue to follow his path every day in hopes some of it rubs off on me.

Duke Laurent has proven to be a prodigious research partner and was able to furnish me with documents and notes that I'd yet to locate in the Archives. There is nothing quite so rewarding as finding someone who's areas of interest align so closely with my own and I very much look forward to continuing to work with him in the coming months.

When my fearsome mountain parrot, my cows, and I (and trusty Resolute as well, lest I forget him) take to the high seas and are beginning our reign of terror as privateers (since, after all, I -am- an Oathlander, and therefore we do not -truly- pirate), I will be sure to remember his kindness on setting me on my way.

When you are one and the damage is grand and you cannot aide everyone.
When you reach them but it's too late.
When you reach them on time and there is nothing you can do for them.
When you managed to save yourself but not others.
At least I did not lose you too.
I cannot even drown my sorrow in cake. Perhaps if I am lucky, I will drown it in the blood of our enemies once my cousins are done with them.
