Relationship Note on Cambria

A lot has changed over the last decade. Turmoil accompanied our marriage in the beginning and continued to do so for some years after. That was in large part due to my own temperament.

Thankfully my wife and liege is an exceptionally patient one, because it was that trait that allowed us to eventually fall into step with one another and bring prosperity to our home and our people.

I hope that we will have another few decades more that we will be able to spend in service to our people while sharing the company of one another.

She said what, dear Scholar? That some things are just worthy of dismissal, rather than an answer? That's paraphrasing? Mhm, mhm, mhm, mhm.

Could you write that down for me, Scholar? Just jot down her exact words, notarize it, put your mark, what-have-you, please? This is a valuable tool for our next argument.

Thanks! Goodbye!

Relationship Note on Cambria

I've a morning routine lends itself to reflection. We joke that I *am* the crack of dawn as reports from the very fine whip made for me by Apollo Malespero ricochet around the garden. One of the things I reflected on recently was an offering to the White Record by Duchess Mazetti, that deep down everybody wants to be 'the one' for somebody. A strongly stated position, and thought provoking. Replies were varied and valid, and I offer this.

Speaking for myself, I would modify the sentiment to say that there is something ineffably sweet about being 'the first' rather than 'the one.' The first person someone wants to tell good news. The first person they turn to when hurt. The first face they want to see. One person may have many 'firsts' they reach for as connections are not singular, nor our relationships, nor our loves. It is a delight and a solace for me to have that 'one' embodied in many. It is a great gift be or have been that for another.

I hope that any who long for this find it in their lives.

Relationship Note on Cambria

The problem with "The One" is that it implies that it is "The Right One" or "The Perfect One". That sounds like a great deal of pressure on one, and perhaps one could confuse "The Worst One" or "The Wrong One" for it, simply because different emotions might be brought out to bear. As for me, it sounds like a lot of pressure and a lot of disappointment when expectations are not met. An equilibrium between what fulfills your obligation to rank and family and what brings you some measure of joy is what I think should be sought.

Too often I think the Peerage protests the situation they find themselves in.

Too rarely do Peerage appreciate what they can have, if they simply search for it.

Death should remind us to find what we seek in what we have.

Relationship Note on Cambria

Imagine if we all received back the love we gave. If we knew it, without question, that even if the sentiment was left unsaid that someone loved us as much as we loved them. So that even if there was no "one," there was some.

But it is far too easy to not recognize the love one is given. And easier still to say nothing of the love one feels when you've been taught it has no place in your duty.

Perhaps I am wrong for believing that love and duty should go hand in hand.

A spar with a jeweler and dodging axes from a general. And a lovely piece of jewelry in the end. Much fun was had, and now I shall find something in a duskweave or maybe some umbra to wear.

Cambria by Strozza Mazetti

Wend coils through the hearts distant and tightly held.
Watchful eye that keeps close the voice.
Seek us out the disparate that under single name we meld.
Coils like lines of rope, twisted braid to give poise.
Many heads and body single.
Through careful wisdom do we immingle.

Relationship Note on Cambria

I have known a few impressive women in the Lyceum, chief among them the Duchess of Ostria. I have found she embodies the Lycene values in ways that are painfully elegant, and I count myself among her admirers. Brilliant leaders do not come around often, and the Compact does not do a good enough job at recognizing once in a generation talent.

I have not met the Duke yet, but I am sure he is a match worthy of the Duchess.

Relationship Note on Cambria

All of us worked hard to achieve one of our greater goals. That achievement was not carried on my shoulders, or yours, but by all of us. The fact is that we did doggedly pursue it and we did invest a great deal of ourselves into that effort and while our contributions may have been many, it was the efforts of the whole that reached up to grasp what we desired and claim it. Every meeting, every rendevous, every exchange of favors, and every single deed performed was in pursuit of that dream. Even those we thought could be of benefit, but ultimately were not. We deserve to pat one another on the back for sure, but never should we forget the common of Ostria who have worked hard to push that dream into reality. Hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder, from noble to commoner, we have worked for a greater Ostria. Nor should those who stepped forward as friends, allies, and compatriots be forgotten. Long will their generosity, ingenuity, and assistance be remembered. Their names are known and even if a whisper of aid is sought, it will be paid in return.

The promise made has been fulfilled and I truly am thankful that I never put into action plans I may have made upon being given that contract of old. While it was not the expected path or journey which I planned for, it was one that I did eventually adjust myself to for the betterment of not only others but myself. Overall it was a humbling experience and while the those first few years were strained at times? I have come to see them as just another trial to shape the person that I am today. Where some of your kin held resentment toward me for obvious reasons, we grew beyond them. We tempered the heat of our passion and refined it into something resolute.

Your leadership of Ostria has taken it to heights it has not known for a long time. For that I thank the gods. We must also remember those friends and allies who aided in the achievement of that goal. Proof to Ostria that sometimes arms must be opened in the pursuit of true progress. Gates shut and barred will keep even friends and the well-meaning out. Caution is a reasonable trait, but not at the sake of growth and experiencing what the world offers. Under your leadership Ostria has began to step forward more and more, making itself known and its honorable intentions felt.

You have proven the commitment you hold toward the words you speak and give to others. Through your actions, the word of my mother and myself were put to a true test and despite there being initial reluctance, that word was found to be encased in diamondplate. Together the people of Ostria will thrive and prosper under the guiding hand of House Mazetti. It is our duty, it is our honor, it is our right, it is our obligation to ensure that our actions are ever the sword and shield of our people.

Whether it is by the sword arm of Lord Theron to exercise the will of the Hydra. The charm, grace, and strength of Lady Alessia to show the world that Ostria can step forward from its walls. Or the keen eyes, ears, and quick wit of Lord Vitalis, the very Ghost that moves unwitnessed. The dedication and integrity of Lord Marzio and the Second to keep our beloved home safe. Whether it is through the talents of Lady Braith and her desire to always seek to find a way to improve, whether it is the self or beyond. Ostria is made safer under the guidance of Lady Antea, the Marshal of Ostria, who will always put duty and loyalty to family before simple wants. Even the seas near Ostria are made safer with the presence of Lord Strozza and those horses of the sea that follow his most capable direction. Should there arise an occasion that we need seek out wisdom, then we know that Lady Marvella will stand ready to provide. One mustn't forget that Lady Miranda will likewise contribute to a safer Ostria as the days, weeks, and months unfold through her great deal of experience and accomplishments she attained before ever becoming known as a Mazetti. These are but a few that will provide security and vision well into the future, without going into the vast number of names who hold the name of Mazetti or those who have been acknowledged as Scales. Whether performing duties within Arx, Ostria, or beyond the people of the Walled City are served well by those they serve in turn. No matter if the contributions have been great or small, they have all served to further forge bonds of loyalty and devotion for us all.

More fitting than ever now that the people have began to call you what we have always known? Today I write with a great sense of satisfaction.

Hail Hydra.

Relationship Note on Cambria

I write this for all eyes who may look upon this journal to see and know henceforth and forever more:

The woman who is my mortal cousin and who was my Marquessa, and the man who is her husband and was my Marquis are the most extraordinary of people whom I have been honored to meet.

My love for them abounds, exceeds all possible expectations; and I shall forever love them.

That I am given even the honor of holding the name 'Godsworn' is a gift from them that I shall cherish above all other gifts and make good on for all my days.

I am blessed, have been blessed and continue to be blessed by them both, in all they do and have ever done.

Let it be known that these two love their family, cherish them beyond what could ever be expected of two people, of a cousin, of a liege -

And should it ever be questioned as to their support of one Sister Dianna Godsworn, may such questioning be struck down by my own words, that I have written down here, in this journal:

For they both have and forever support me in my decision to be godsworn.

A recent conversation with the Marquessa has left me convinced that Ostria is fortunate to be in such extraordinarily capable hands. Her wits and resolve do House Mazetti proud - I believe that Fidante and Mazetti have nothing but a stronger future together given our consensus on important matters. I shall have to get to know the whole House and favorably anticipate it.
