Relationship Note on Calliope

A woman of esteem and good taste. I am proud I could supply the Lady of Grimhall with such beautiful hairpins to remind her of her family and the deadly power of the Thraxian people.

I value your talents and your excitement more than you know, but to watch you take the thing I came to the city to try to obtain is like a dagger in my side.

Relationship Note on Calliope

Proving to be more useful than expected, even if she gulled me into dancing with her at the Masque. Though I'd met her in the past while doing business with her father, I'd never paid her much attention before. She is nothing like Duke Eugeine Grimhall, however. That is undeniably a compliment.

Not that, I'll admit, it takes much to improve on that standard.

She has my ear, for now.

Relationship Note on Calliope

So we know each other - we have for years. In fact we are childhood... friends? Friends. If toddlers have have those instead of playmates, and if Pigtails was that; I remember her running with us. Our knees bruised and bloodied, she could see them, and still came - didn't she have dolls to play with? It made little sense then and it does less now. But I will need that mind of hers; it cuts. Who has honed it, and to what end? A weapon discarded, only to be picked up now when we are marching to do war against no one we can name, against nothing we can see.

Is that fate? Or is it desperation? Is this what it feels to grasp at straws?

Relationship Note on Calliope

Alright, sometimes puzzles are good for the soul. They sharpen the mind - Gods only know mine needs the edge - and they give you something to do than stay idle on horseback while the hours roll on. But what *did* that woman mean that we have met before? I have been away, with the King's Own first then up far to the north, and would have *certainly* remembered her.

A perfume maker though. There must be hundreds in the city - yet I do not feel my chances are excellent for running into that one again. Annoying.

... It's like hunting for a needle in a haystack! There is something unfair in the task, but surely I can prove its equal.

Annoying.
