Relationship Note on Briseis
I've seen the works of the Inquisition and the Iron Guard many times, over the decades. I've seen the innocent accused of heinous deeds and hauled away for no real crime other than daring to have what an Inquisitor wanted. I've seen small children and their parents maimed and killed by the Iron Guard, for no crime at all.
I grew up in Arx, in the Lowers, and I learned to fear both the Inquisition and the Iron Guard before I learned to walk. Most of us in the Lowers did. And I do not doubt that I'll be spending five hours in queues tomorrow, being searched and inspected most closely if not arrested for having committed no crime. It won't be because I'm daring to go outside the Lowers or speaking out due to the disproportionate effect of what you think the Inquisition are trying to do, of course. Never that.
If I hate the Iron Guard and the Inquisition, it's not without several decades of good cause. And I am, when it comes down to it, utterly powerless to stop them doing anything they please. All I have in this is my voice, and wouldn't it be convenient if you could take that as well.

When the Iron Guard checkpoints claim three hours of your day, when you're in a situation where if you don't get work you don't get paid, all for something that the real villains will avoid without any issues?
It's not about safety or security or stability. It's about persuading everyone that the Iron Guard and the Inquisition are doing something, while they get to push around commoners and lesser nobles in order to shore up their own egos. It has nothing to do with justice, just with making them look good to those who can't see through the posturing.

I am so excited that Miss Briseis has accepted my request to have her as my protege. I am looking forward to seeing where this goes. She is such a delight and I will enjoy watching her grow!

I have never met someone quite so relentlessly positive, nor so intensely observant. When I see her, I see someone ready to face the whole of the world, and I believe she at least has the spirit to do it. I am more than proud to call her protégé; hopefully, I can impart something of value to her.
At the very least I think she'll do wonders for Jourdain. He needs someone to drag him out of his comfort zone.
And oh! We have so much to discuss. I should go and find a selection of reading materials to go over for next we meet. I wonder how acquainted she is with the works of Scholar Fenton Mulley...

I've some other very excellent books of laws, and the practice of law, and noted lawyers through history that I'd be happy to share with you, Mistress Morgan. They're riveting. Especially the one detailing the case against that dashing corsair and rogue, Captain Hardstone.

First off, anyone that makes that joke to consider permission to punch them already given.
Second I would recommend if they make said joke to tell them you will let your father Hardwicke they wanted to know and see how quickly they try to book passage off the continent.
