Relationship Note on Athaur

A rousing speech to then watch the backhand to echo through the whole of Riva. It was a good speech brother.
Then I too was backhanded. I love you Ima.

To Sanctum then.

In a city that revolves on gift horses, are you really surprised?

Relationship Note on Athaur

I have never more looked forward to a match than for you to face my Thorns challenge again, my lord.

I'll bring an extra bottle of wine to either toast you... or for you to drown your sorrows in.

Relationship Note on Athaur

If I may gently observe to the noble Count, sad and blunt as it may be, submit or die is ultimately the choice faced. We can delay that choice, hope more time and interaction will promote the joining of those people to the Compact rather than resistance, but bluntly it is the way it is. Though. I would say Submit is a blunt term for what is often the start of a partnership between the local Lords and their new people. Bending the knee creates ties that bind, but they bind in both directions. And create obligations and support.

The problem is not in the choice, it is when that choice is not truly a choice or when it is denied totally. When conflict is artificially created as a pretext to assault. The Faith has often been at the forefront of major conflict with the Abandoned tribes, I have little interest in seeing our lands, our silver, our people lost to raids or encroachment from tribes who refuse to bend the knee, and we have proven that with blood and steel. But I have no interest at all in paying with the lives of the Faith Militant to kill those who never had a choice to submit, to bend the knee. Those who have not refused to bend the knee because it has not been offered, who are not actively attacking our people and the roads, who have not sworn to dark beliefs have taken no choice that confers guilt.

The terms are stark indeed, my Lord, but there are ways in which they come at the end of a long conversation. Of education. Too often are such choices made quickly, are people not yet ready brought into the Compact or forced to battle when there is no need. Prodigal Houses raised up without proper instruction in the Faith in some cases. I think less haste in these matters would be better for all sides.

Relationship Note on Athaur

The noble house Rivenshari swore loyalty to the Compact and pledged itself in fealty to the Crown and to the Faith. To imply that any prodigal--all of whom have accepted the authority of the Church and King--should suffer for their past is an offence against Lord Limerance, for the oaths of fealty demand protection by their lieges; it is an offense to Lady Gild, for the Compact exists so that all within may benefit and aid each other; it is an offence to Lord Skald, for it renders their choices meaningless.

Prodigals are not shav'arvani. In truth, I see little usage for the term. There are only those within the Compact, and those without. So long as those without it bend the knee, no violence need happen. The responsibility lies upon the shav'arvani to make the righteous choice.

Relationship Note on Athaur

The Tournament of Thorns pre-games have, for me, been a lot of fun. I don't display my work publicly as a rule, and I must confess, seeing people confounded as much as elucidated by my painting was equally satisfying.

In particular I must credit Count Athaur Rivenshari who, after many weeks of failure, was finally able to secure the steel thorn from me and thus complete his set. Victory is, surely, all the sweeter for the failures that came before it.

Good luck to all competing tonight.

Count Athaur,

I am jealous. I wish I had a sister that loved to gift me boats. You are very blessed to have such a sister. You must gift her back.

Relationship Note on Athaur

I have to say that I am enjoying getting to know Athaur Rivenshari, he has so far shown himself to care for his people, to put them before himself and yet he also seems to know how to have fun. He was showing me how to play card games. I believe he also promised to show me how to play board games at some point. I think I will hold him to that.
