Relationship Note on Ansel
Ah, what can one say about my dearest Duke Ansel.
We have been friends for some time and to this day he remains one of the kindest and warmest men I know. Charming, insightful and that glint of mischief in his eye that makes a girl wonder what trouble she is about to get into. To be true, from the sound of his adventures, he remains endlessly spirited. So easy to talk to and so much fun. He cares truly about his people and the realm. Brave and willing to rise to defend. He puts his own dreams aside to see that his duty done right. So much to admire.
I treasure his company and I'm so glad he is back. We met so long ago and even now, though our paths often part now and again and our lives are so different now, it is like old times when he returns.
I must thank him again for the lovely gift to lift my spirits. I feel absolutely delighted and very spoiled by this sweet surprise. But I shall not complain too much.

When I was a child I had a stuffed horse named Whinnie. I loved Whinnie and Whinnie loved me. I had Whinnie until a certain Telmar Sword decided to give Whinnie a haircut and put a hole in her that the stuffing escaped from. I cried.

Ansel is my cousin, technically. But he is the closest thing I have to a brother -- even more than my actual brother. We trained together. We now serve as House Voices together. We make a good team, even if he is a better warrior and scholar both than me. Together, I cannot see anything that House Telmar cannot accomplish.

Lord Ansel Telmar serves as Voice of Telmar and as the Sword of the Telmarch. He's an impressive figure, and in his years in Arx, he seems to have come into his own. I can only hope my own path will follow a similar trajectory.

My son. The Sword of the Telmarch. For now. He's lucky there isn't anyone else I'd give it to. The boy keeps himself busy, I'll give him that, but he's not the son I would have wanted. I wouldn't want him to be like me. In fact, I've beaten it into him that he shouldn't be like me in some ways. I'm not an easy man to know and work with and I might not be the best man to serve as duke but gods dammit it's mine now and only death is going to change that. Might be Ansel is the one to rule after me, might be he isn't. The lessons never end, though, and he's not where he needs to be yet.

I find myself rarely able to guess what Ansel will do at any given time, with one exception: He will do whatever is most honourable, most valiant, and probably the most stone-headed foolish in pursuit of his duty and responsibility - he can't even help it. I'm fortunate to have him as a liege lord. I'm privileged to call him a brother-in-law. I'm honoured to call him a friend.

I find that I have come to rely on Lord Ansel as another commander in the field, as the battle against Brand's forces grew and eventually culminated in the siege we currently experience. Despite multiple injuries, he has consistently put himself forward to help however we might be able to use him. And, recently did not just step up to replace me as the commander of the Valardin forces that would assist Lady General Calypso with the Gyre land offensive, he also stepped up to take on her role as she also is needed in Arx to assist with the siege response and organization.
Honorable, loyal, and a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. I am pleased and proud to call him friend. If only I could convince him to stop with the Princess shit when we're not in a formal setting.

Dear Me,
There are no words for how much I love my brother. He's always understood me best and loved me at my worst. I have nothing clever to say about any of this... it's all... smushy and heartfelt.
Now he's off to battle and the shrine of Gloria is just appallingly crowded. I've had to shove and elbow my way up front to make sure She sees me. Also, some of my best dresses are wearing thin where my knees hit when I kneel. I'm not sure whether this is the dressmaker's fault or the people who keep the floors of the shrines, but you can be sure I'll look into it when all this is past.
Come safely home, Annie. My heart will break and never, ever repair if you don't.

Honor and manners may be the norm back home in the Oathlands, but they're less common here. It's refreshing to see someone who still holds to them, and believes that the complications they cause are outweighed by the grace they grant. And if you ever need a slightly more practical escape from those, I'm here for that too.

Cousin Ansel definitely has a great deal on his shoulders. He seems fair, however, and balanced, and definitely has a tight relationship with his sisters. He is handling the weight of responsibility on his shoulders pretty well, I think.

Have chanced upon Lord Ansel twice and spent both times getting a chance to talk to him. I agree with my brother, we should bring him to Greenwood, I feel he is someone that would appreciate the beauty of it. I am also looking forward to a new training partner as both he and I are awaiting our new swords from Dame Ida.
