Relationship Note on Jhond

307 marks.

It's a record that will stand for some time. Possibly forever.

master Jhond Whisper remains an elegant and courteous man. And I am grateful for his aid.

A bit of a departure from my previous journal, I know. I came here to record master Jhond's impressive tally at the Gauntlet. Hearing of Lady Niamh, her memory had to take precedence.

Relationship Note on Niamh

Lady Niamh Greenmarch greeted me and was kind to me and we spoke of the future, as knights. Of duty, as knights.

She wanted me to aid her order, to help make armour for them. And armour for her.

And we became friends, very quickly. She let me see past the armour she wore for the world. She let me in.

I am grateful for that.

I will honour her memory by striving to live up to the ideals she espoused.

I will be the dragon she told me I could be.

Rest well, Lady Niamh. And thank you, for everything.

Relationship Note on Alis

Princess Alis was always kind to me.

The time we spent squiring together, well, we kinda fit. And if we hadn't fit, I'm pretty sure the rest of the squires would've made us. I'm barely taller than her. So they dubbed us the small squad and we made sure that our nickname of tiny terrors was well-earned. Flail and polearm, you avoid one you'll fall to the other.

Now we're in Arx, and she's been raised as a Voice of Valardin. Well-deserved, so. But she's still the Princess I knew - and once she heard I was comitting myself to the armoursmith's craft, she reached out to me and offered me patronage.

I accepted immediately, of course. And I hope that I can continue to do her proud.

Relationship Note on Alexander

My brother arrived in Arx not too long ago. As the loving sister I am, I've offered to let him stay with me.

It's good to have the younger half here. He always was the brains of the operation. Plus, sharing the splendours of Arx with him - and hearing what magnificence he finds - will always be a thrill.

Part of coming to Arx has been an expansion of my horizons. Discovering new people. Learning new things. Learning more about myself.

Some of this instruction has come at the hands of noted luminaries. That, too, is a thing that is taking some getting used to. High Lords and Archlectors are no longer distant, almost mythical figures. They are right here, in the flesh. Human.

I do not envy their burdens.

I've been wracking my mind some, what to write about the night in the Valardin Hall. I'm sure the Black Reflections contain some about it already, but I shan't speculate too hard on that.

Already, I've been thanked for my efforts. And that's flattering. Once the foe revealed itself, I didn't do much, really - I stood with Princess Alis, and I got a chance to wield Wyrmstooth for real, for the first time.

I'm pleased to report that the old lady still performs admirably.

I'm also pleased to report that Princess Alis has married one of the finest bowmen in Arvum.

There were a number of others present, and their contributions helped make a difference. I am grateful to them. Princess Sasha and Prince Valerion Valardin. Marquis Marius and Lady Eirlys Greenmarch, Lady Charlaine Blanchard. They all played a vital role in defeating the enemy that hid within the hall.

I went to the arm-wrestling contest one Prince Fergus Redrain was setting up in the bar in the Redrain Ward they call the Spirits (which, good job on the pun, I guess?).

I got knocked out by one Lord Estaban Saik. Who then proceeded to remain unbeaten. He'd've had a place in the final bout...

Except, he had to leave, and so did his cousin, and so I was brought in again, and it turns out I just need some warming up. The next couple of bouts were hard fought, and Dame Greenblood is as an impressive as opponent as any - I honestly didn't think I'd win.

But win I did. And mistress Manicelli seemed awfully distracted. So I won that bout as well.

And then I was declared winner and had free drinks.

The good news is, my head doesn't hurt that much. I had a lot of water before bed.

I made sure mistress Manicelli had a goodly amount, too.

Relationship Note on Joscelin

Guildmistress Joscelin Arterius is extremely generous.
She accepted me into the Crafter's Guild. She gave me a loan, that I may get my shop set up - and with only a single order fulfilled, she gave me a bonus from the coffers of the guild.

I am thoroughly pleased. And I will be sure to make a donation to Gild in thanks for my good fortune, brought to me by kind people.

My personal best in the Telmar Gauntlet remains at 50 marks. I expect it will be some time before I beat that.

And the Lady Guildmaster of the Physician's guild has told me to take it easy on my arm over the next week or so. That complicates things.

At least the willow-bark doesn't smell awful.

Relationship Note on Joslyn

While not a noblewoman, Miss Joslyn Manicelli acts as an impeccable representative for her Duchess and House. She also has a wonderful sense of aesthetics and a very Lycene manner of being. I realise that may sound as a back-handed compliment from an Oathlander, but I mean it in the most positive of ways.

She also asked me out to dinner and drinks.

I think that's a first.

I have arrived and mostly settled in Arx. For now, I've got a room in an inn called "The Sleepless Knights". The pun amuses. And, as I told his grace, the beds are not -that- bad.

It is not my first time in Arx, of course. I am sure if I go looking, I can find my last set of journals, from when I visited as a squire, spending a few months here. I'm sure I was even more wide-eyed with wonder than I am now.

The damage after the siege is still visible. The wound in the wall could be seen from the edge of the forest.

For some reason, it made me think of my father. His wounds weren't healing right. And during the trip home, they festered. And he died.

I will add my efforts to ensure that Arx rises stronger from her wounds.
