Relationship Note on Edain

I ran into the Prince the other day at a tavern. He paid me about the nicest compliment of my entire life, saying my employer spoke well of me. I won't go into details, but ... well, it was unexpected. He then told the barkeep to put my drink and anything else I wanted on /his/ tab. Coffee has to be imported from the tropics and on my wages, not a luxery I can often afford. But that was about the best cup I ever tasted. Thank you, Your Highness.

Relationship Note on Edain

I have found the High Lord to be what one might expect of him. He has been honest in giving me his truth and not to beat around the bush at all. I admire that in him. He does not enjoy that I call him the Hero High Lord, but in a world full of shadows; it is good there may be some light.

Relationship Note on Edain

Sometimes I forget how the Tragedy has taken a toll on us all. I push it out of my mind. Today, Prince Edain Valardin, thanked me for the loss of my father. It ripped open a wound I am still mending. A small reminder we are all still mending, I should be more forgiving of. I am not the only one who has had a loss. If we cannot stand together what else do we have left?

Relationship Note on Edain

My heroic prince and evader of escort. I got to meet Roland. A more perfect owl does not exist and we are still to go on the hunt. I must admit two things, my dearest reader.

The first is that I have decided that Edain needs more fun in his life. I am not good for missions as I tend to become bored by them. I may though take this as my own. He is truly a good man and good men need good things in life to remember life is good.

The second is that I am more interested in ever in learning how to ... fowl? How to ... hunt with a bird? I am not sure it is falconry if it is not a falcon used. I will have to ask the Heroic Prince.

Relationship Note on Edain

A young man, forged by some of the best knights of the day, tempered in tragedy, and thrust into a position he could not have been ready for... and he still manages to carry it off with vigor, intelligence, and heart.

He is a tribute to his family, and an asset to the Compact.

Relationship Note on Edain

Uncle Radley was a paragon of our family and so is his son, Edain. As I trusted my Uncle, so I trust my cousin. My heart aches for him though, to be thrust into the role of High Lord after such great tragedy. It was not how any of us wanted to see his succession occur. The burden of command has been placed upon his shoulders, but despite his hesitation he is well suited to it. I have no doubt; he will go down in the annals of our family history as a hero. Until that day, I will do all I can to aid him, what strength I can offer to him, is given freely.

Relationship Note on Edain

I am not sure what I was thinking when I thought about meeting the High Prince. He was not fully what I expected in a man in his position, but that is not bad in the least. I have secured his escort on a future trip and it is sure to be delightful if not a little thrilling.

Relationship Note on Edain

The High Lord holds an appreciation of my work which extends beyond what I usually find, and I confess it is the sort of appreciation which makes all my work worthwhile. I think he is prone to hidden bouts of depression, so I sent him something to help when the metaphorical storm clouds gather. It is troubling to see a genuinely good man feeling down.

Relationship Note on Edain

Some people are romantics. They think of knights and stories and imagine the real world works that way. Edain is someone with the power to make the world conform to literature, if he plays his cards right.

Relationship Note on Edain

I haven't really met Prince Edain personally, but his name keeps coming up in things. And I did see him run a command tournament, which is an unusual enough event to be worthy of note. He had people command small sets of guards through an obstacle course, timing them on how quickly they overcame the obstacles.

That's certainly a change from the usual sort of challenges out there, and suggests a mind that I'd like to get to know better.

Relationship Note on Edain

Though I haven't a drop of it, I recognize class when I see it. Prince Edain Valardin was challenged to a duel on erroneous charges and he never lost his composure. I tried my best to deflect his challenger with humor and inquiries about his "jib", but it was entirely unneeded.

A stark reminder as to why those with noble blood are a cut above the likes of me: I would have stabbed anyone who talked to me like that in the leg with my boot knife.

Relationship Note on Edain

Well, that went better than I expected. Not even a small lecture on noble responsibility. Instead, he refers me to a weaponsmith for my men and just wants to check that I'm not an imposter. A reasonable suspicion, given my disappearance. He did prod me to try and make amends with father though. I'm still not sure if I even want to bark up that tree, let alone go near it.

Relationship Note on Edain

Prince Edain is a light in this world. Tragedy has led him to his place as it has led me to mine; he provides a constant example for how to shoulder the many burdens that come with responsibility. Too many feel that the strict honor of Valardin make them brittle as iron. In their High Lord, we see that it tempers them as with steel.

I trust him with my life but pray the day never comes when he must be responsible for that trust. He is a friend, and I want only good things for him.

Relationship Note on Edain

Edain has grown into a fine bearer of the Valardin name since the tragedy. We work well together and I can only hope such cooperation continues into the future.

Relationship Note on Edain

Prince Edain might be one of the most genuinely good people I know. He's nice, funny, and incredibly resilient for having so much responsibility thrown his way. Always polite, but he never gives me a hard time about my absolute disdain of southern formality. Along with Sir Arugula, he's fast and furious, not to mention skilled with a blade. I respect him a great deal, and I'm glad to call him a friend. I wish the world didn't hang so heavy on his shoulders. It's good to see him smile.

Relationship Note on Edain

Edain is everything what Oathlanders could expect their leader to be. He is a paragon of knightly virtues such as:

* Courage: a true leader must have the courage of the heart necessary to undertake tasks which are difficult, tedious or unglamorous, and to graciously accept the sacrifices involved.

* Justice: a true leader holds himself to the highest standard of behavior, and knows that “fudging” on the little rules is a weakness.

* Mercy: a true leader knows that words and attitude can be painful weapons. He tries to create a sense of peace rather than engendering hostility.

* Generosity: a true leader is sharing his wisdom, energy, attention, silver with the ones who approach them for his help.

* Hope: a true leader inspires people all around.

* Faith: a true leader is always faithful to his promises, no matter how big or small they may be.

Relationship Note on Edain

Meeting him in the street was a blow to my heart - of course I knew who he was, nephew to the former Lord Commander, the new Prince of Sanctum. The gift he gave me is priceless, and means more to me than I can say. He seems like a good man, and he has offered to help the nearly impossible task ahead of me. Neither of us are suited to the measure of the man who stands between us, but I get the feeling that we're both going to try.

Relationship Note on Edain

What can I say about Prince Edain Valardin? Even before the Tragedy at Sanctum, he seemed a fan of my fighting style and I was certainly honored by as much. I still am, truth be told, and while loyalty to one's house is expected, His Grace also earned mine some time ago. When he invited me to Arx, the timing was almost too perfect. My husband had been gone awhile, the children were off with their new masters and there were only so many boxing championships I hadn't already participated in at least once. Surely Arx would offer a more varied array of opponents. Besides, the chance to forge arms and armors for House Valardin? Who in their right mind would turn down such an opportunity? His generosity since my arrival is beyond measure, providing me any necessities wage in exchange for my work. I surely have the better deal in this relationship. That he is immeasurably humble as well as honorable? I could hardly admire him more. Whatever dark times may approach, I hope to serve His Grace and his family well, however I can. He deserves no less from me,

Relationship Note on Edain

His father would be proud of his fighting prowess. I don't know His Grace well, but he seems like a honorable man, that perhaps could use a night or two out in the Lyceum. When it comes to battle, however, he is a true warrior. I faced him in a Rite of Gloria, where we were very evenly match, and yet I was forced to yield in the end. I feel no shame in having done so either, Edain's skill is without question.
