Sometimes I wonder at my own state of mind. Did I willingly walk into a room knowing that a truth serum would be on the menu? Yes. Did I consume it, even after having seen the effects on another? Yes. Did some of the hidden chambers of my mind find a very audible voice? Yes.

Perhaps next time I have the opportunity to attend such, I will stay in and read a book instead? No. Probably not.

Relationship Note on Selene

The work of Selene Whisper is astounding. I recently purchased a mask and gown from Whispering Words, and I could not be more delighted.

The search for a patron is an interesting one. I've met many interesting nobles, who have offered a variety of things. There's still some more potential patrons to meet, and this I dread.

The choice is already difficult enough, more options will not make it easier. And yet, I must give them a fair chance.

I don't often see very much of you, in me, though I suppose all of us have inherited your beautiful dark hair, and there's more than a little of your stamp in each one of us, here and there. But of late sometimes I catch it, sidelong in the mirror. And I feel it too, in the dark of the night when all is quiet except for the sound of slumber and the thump of a heartbeat. Should I be proud? Worried? I used to dress up in your things when I thought no one was looking, until I was caught and punished. Sometimes when I watched you prepare for he evening, to do your duty at a banquet or ball with your husband on your arm or to leave for more private affairs to meet with the assignation of choice, you would laugh and powder my nose or let me pick out your perfume of the evening, which always let me have one very precious dab at my wrists. If I ran away very quickly after it was done, I could press mine to Sabine's, so that we could share it. I loved you so much, but it was always from afar, without understanding. You were always a pattern that eluded me, that no matter how I tried, I couldn't understand how anything fit together, though I wanted to. So that I could mend just a little part of it. Selfishly, I think, as if I could remake you into someone who could love us in a different way.

But I caught a glimpse of you only recently, and it stole my breath and broke my heart just a very little bit. I wonder if you would be proud of me. Or if you would just shrug and give that small smile, and turn back towards your mirror. The latter I think. But I love you still. And them. Them most of all. And the one to come.

I’m proud to announce the start of the Second Annual Gilded Page Literary Competition!

The Gilded Page has, for these many years, been a dedicated patron of the written word, as it is my devout personal belief that such endeavors should be celebrated and rewarded. So it is that I’m looking forward to seeing what the creative citizens of this fine city may craft to grace and enrich book shelves across the land.

This year, there will be a costumed Storybook Soiree to announce and toast the winners of the Competition, and I encourage everyone to come dressed as their favorite literary character. There will, of course, be a prize for Best Costume!

Official Rules of the Gilded Page Literary Contest:

1. One entry per author, though submissions may be a series containing two or more related books; any subject matter
2. Deadline for book submissions: 8/20/1011 AR (OOC - RL August 18, 2019)
3. Open to all, nobles and commoners alike
4. Book may be a book that has already been published before, or may be a new work (new works encouraged!)
5. Authors will remain anonymous through the voting period, which will last for four weeks from the deadline for submissions and culminate in a Costumed Soiree; the voters being comprised of anyone who would like to cast a vote. One vote per person, and votes may be sent to Lady Monique via messenger
6. Voting period: 8/20/1011 AR to 9/20/1011 AR (OOC – RL August 18, 2019 to September 1, 2019)
7.Copies of all entries will be on sale at the Gilded Page during the contest period, with all funds received being donated to the Faith

Prizes:

First Place: 1,000 social resources
Second Place: 500 economic resources
Third Place: 250 military resources
Prize for Best Costume at the Storybook Soiree: Subject to change, but a very rare book adorned with platinum is what I have in mind

Entries may be sent by messenger to Lady Monique Greenmarch, with no author noted on the cover or insides of the book to retain anonymity for voting purposes. Thank you for your creativity and generosity!

It might very well just be an effect of my advancing years, but I confess that I am finding it increasingly difficult to organise large-scale efforts in the way I used to. It has taken almost all my capacities over the span of a couple of weeks to get a new effort underway and provide suitable support to Tenebrae in her work. Still, I have very much enjoyed concocting the plans, and hope that our endeavours will prove fruitful.

Relationship Note on Miranda

I can only imagine they must be shaking their boots to receive such a battle cry. Perhaps tales of the battle cry will reach their homelands and for generations to come they will shiver when they hear the name alone. One will rise up and call themself 'Pookebane' and attempt to take fight back. Though that's presuming one was left alive to take the news back

I fear that snake hammocks are a thing I don't think I can easily forget.

Is this your idea of relaxing, Floofykins? I'm not sure though. It would not be mine, but then we are quite different people. Stay safe,

My staff has been stolen. Not only is this making it a little harder to walk around but I can't give people a gentle tap with it to correct their mistakes.
I am very much vexed by this.

Adventure looms. There is much to plan, much that could go wrong, and still more that go so very right in the most enjoyable way. The Minx of the Marches, indeed.

Relationship Note on Reigna

What if we were to sponsor or own wagon and deliver proper, useful remedies that are safe and actually effective? It would seem that in the absence of good alternatives, the desperate will turn to any cure.

I'm certainly not proposing this because I've always thought, being robbed and killed by bandits aside, a wagon like that would be fun. Though I always imagined doing a brisk trade in books rather than medicines.

A few weeks ago I ended up wronging one of the people I hold dear to me. We have not spoken since, and I fear the possibility we might not ever get back what we had because of my actions.

I miss the sound of her voice.

Dame Tom has been acting peculiar lately. I really should have someone from the Lodge take a look at her, I'm worried she might be pregnant again. I have no idea what I'd do with a second litter of stoatlets.

There is a Luthier's workshop in Nilanza not far from the house of vows. It's a delightful little place positioned just before a hairpin turn which provides some of the most exquisite views over the ocean that you are likely to find. If you want an instrument that comes with a story. I can not recommend them enough.

The other day I received thirteen bottles o' booze in the loveliest little box.

Then today for patron's day I was gifted the ugliest gods damned creature I have ever seen. I keep wonderin if my birthday is fast approaching...

At first I thought it was a cat with a hairless tail. Then I thought it was a very unfortunate dog. Rat? Too big, too hissy. No ship rat I've ever known's ever fuckin hissed.

It arrived in a box in my office. At first I didn't know what to do with it so I nipped out to the bakery to grab something for it to eat and when I came back it was gone. Looking around for it, someone tells me that they saw the box loaded onto the truck cart and was about to be hauled off. I chased after it, dove into the back of the cart. It spooked the horse and caused them to kick the driver out the cart and bolt. Straight downhill.

So that is, why this morning I smell like yesterday's garbage and am limping with a hissy possum that also smells like garbage and why there is trail of garbage stretching from the Commons Courts right down to the river's mouth. I won't make mention about the fire and the incident with the old lady as I'm still being questioned about that.

Thanks, Gaston. Best Present Ever.

So very excited! There is something enticing about a small gather with special libations that are not often served.

I've asked Missere Master Barkeep Maggnus to enter the Hart's private cellars to bring forth a sampling of some of our more rare and exotic vintages and spirits to try. I'm rather looking forward to see who enjoys which drinks and who remains standing at the end of the night.

Fortunately, we still have a few lovely suites that are not occupied at present, so our guests can relax and enjoy all enticements and comforts that my Hart can offer.

I fully expect it will be a wonderful night of fun. With luck, this will be the first of many such parties we host.

To life, light, luck and love!
