So much of my family is here in the city now that there are almost always the sounds of life within the manor, regardless of hour. Twice this week I have heard laughter from the gardens only to look out the window to see the pools actually being used. It's a nice change.

Our son has been born, but he remains elsewhere. I know that this will likely cause some disappointment, but considering the state of things it is safest. Those that desperately wish to see him can make requests to visit; the journey this time of year is not terrible.

The purpose of a siege or a blockade is primarily the prevention of food or other supplies from reaching the city under siege. The siege against Arx was not successful in any measure of such things: at no point was our harbor closed. There was no successful blockade, there was no life-threatening scarcity of goods. We had a route for both food and supplies entering the city, meaning that our people -- our soldiers -- were not starving when it came time to fight.
Our enemy was simply incapable of bringing a blockade to bear. It is worth considering why this might have been, particularly in the context of some of the actions the righteous took during the final conflict itself.

There are reasons that our traditions have evolved as they have; the observation of custom is vital, particularly on the eve of a siege.
Please remember:
If you've a personal issue with another noble, use the duel as it is meant to be used.
If you've an issue or concern with someone's vassal, you should address it with their liege -- or in most cases your own first.
Follow the chain of command.
No heroics.
If you're supposed to be in combat, you have a commanding officer. Do what they tell you to do.
Stay calm.

If evacuation of any part of the city becomes necessary:
People first. Things can be replaced
Take only what you can carry in your own arms. More than that blocks the roads and slows down others escape
Have a plan: know where you're going to meet up with your family

I was championed today by Lady Niamh Greenmarch of the Champion's guild. She fought Baroness Kima Saik, who stood for Duke Hadrian Malvici. Both women fought incredibly well, and the Sentinel favored my cause.
Duke Hadrian has apologized, and he has retracted his insult. I consider the matter settled, and will hear no words spoken against him on the matter. The Lyceum must stand together in these coming days, and solving these sorts of problems in the traditional way allows us all to do so.

In just a few short hours, I will be married. Everyone in the house is running around like they have lost their minds, for all that most everything was well in place yesterday. I should probably start getting dressed, soon. It has grown to be a larger crowd than I had hoped for, but I should not be particularly surprised. I had hoped to get away with something tiny, but it is what it is. We will endure it, and then it will be done.

It would be wonderful if the threats against my vassal might stop. I know that they are well-meaning, but there is only so much I am able to ignore. Hearing reports of others penning death threats is truly not something I enjoy.
