Business this week
- 2000 silver from Lady General Calypso

Spent at the Leathers to improve my armor. Spear next. Brier coming along nicely. Now constantly outpacing the other horses of the stables.

Explained my ongoing commitments with Valardin to the Lady General. Need to dress smartly for visiting the Minister of Agriculture next week at her stables next week.

Lady Juliet Fidante arranged an assistant for me. A very sweet girl called Lindsey, who seems to be as busy constantly around myself as I was about my family. She's a great boon, and I am thankful

Things That Happened
- Hana made me a spear. Nature's Strength, she's a beauty. The spear is lovely, strong and firm and powerful. Dante taught me the basics of using her, and I hope to learn more, so as not to be a disgrace when I lead the hunts

- the Lodge proceeds. I'm looking for a good place to build. Lady Niamh gave me permission to build. I'm finding rangers and hunters amongst the city as well as patrons and others who will support us.

- Lady Calypso gave me some armor. It's fitted and smooth. I need to get some matching gauntlets for it. It looks wonderful. Lady Juliet cooed over me the entire time I wore it.

- Saedrus hurt his leg. He looks wonderful injured and languishing. I wanted to brush his hair

- I've finished this bottle of wine and I am so drunk. SO drunk.

Business this week
- Looked at the mews for His Highness Edain. They're good enough, and he has a very impressive owl, Roland. Gave Roland some training in not eating Edain's ears. Not sure if I got paid for that. Must check. I was too busy sniggering.

- Trained a lovely hound called Alejandra for Prince Ainsley. Got paid five thousand silver and ten thousand's worth of military backing for pushing her training a little further than most. She'll be a good hound for a patrolling prince.

- Brier is coming along wonderfully. She's much faster, now! I really think her conditioning is paying off

Relationship Note on Calypso

The Lady General has procured armor for me. It fits well, and while I'm not used to walking the streets in leather pants, the armor draws a lot of admiring glances. It's expensive, and well tailored, and I might spend a little on tightening or replacing this or that, but overall, I adore it.

Now to learn to use a spear with it.

Something I consider.

I think the reason so much has been lost is, even now, I know we don't always reveal what we know. We hide it, we whisper it to one another, we keep it secret - to protect ourselves, to protect each other. I've been told things I had to mutter to the Baron, before his death, and I felt filthy for saying them, but he needed to know them, and so I did.

Why do we assume others did otherwise, so long ago? And in the future, will others look back at our pieces, and wonder why we did not write what we know?

Relationship Note on Sophie

The Princess of Mercy and I met during a loud, and near-violent argument on the nature of Thrallhood - no, master scribe, I don't want to discuss that here. I'm certain you've heard enough of that of late, and my own views mirror those of Petri -

- I said I wouldn't discuss it? Very well.

I was manning Brier, acclimitising them to crowds, and the Mercy and I talked. She invited me to speak at the Oathland openfire meal, and to pursue holy orders if I felt such a call. The long, and the short, then, is that I have given my vows to serve Petrichor; and thank you, your highness, for encouraging me to do so.

Look, I don't think it was necessarily improper to say the circumstances of our meeting, master scribe. And you see, it was relevant! Hah!

Relationship Note on Niamh

The Lady Niamh has graciously offered both her own hand in friendship and that of her clan; I think, how it was phrased, that's a great honor, and certainly I reacted as though it were. The ways of the Valardin are quite strange to me, though.

Our agreement; for five hundred silver per banking session (Why is that every three weeks? Stupid banks) and the promise of support once a month in a minor endevour, once a season I shall train the war elks of their stables.

Oh, those war elks! Thick pelted, many-horned. Wonderful creatures, as a dire deer might be, were they as loyal as horses and sturdy as a badger. Admittedly, I'd not race that rack through a forest, but I can envision the terror a row of them would cause as they thundered across the snow towards you.

Why did Niamh laugh when I said that?

Relationship Note on Hana

The smith I met on my arrival to Arx seems to be doing well! I'd passed her storefront a number of times, not knowing it was her within. Recently, as we've both been favored, she's written to me, and I her.

I look forward to seeing her work, truly. Perhaps I could bring her a lizard; the heat of the forge would be comfortable, I think

His Highness Dominic of Thrax asked me for my aid in training him to train dogs. My prices are too high for him, it seems; and after that disgusting request from His Highness Abbas of Thrax, or the repeated requests from Lord Max of Darkwater of Thrax to discuss political matters and insult his homeland; I really don't think I can do business with them.

They don't haggle. They bluster and shout like wild dogs amid a trained pack. I'm not their thrall and if they want my aid, they'll pay for it as well as any other can.

Speaking of that, the Archscholar paid me five thousand silver and the price of two horses to arrange a guard dog for him. I was more than pleased to do so. She's a lovely thing.

I think I need to speak to the Archlector and Archscholar. Aside from anything else, the latest proclamation of the Dominus would make the timing fortuitous.

I've had in mind for some time to create an order devoted to Petrichor. The city relies on hunters for their meat, and none of the nobility I've shared meals with have given him any thanks, nor have they thanked for hospitality on entering another's lands. I understand that to them, food simply occurs; but the love of hunting is one of Petrichor's gifts, and we must foster it. I had it in mind to create a lodge closer to the forests, of skilled hunters and riders. That such would be of use on the roads, as well, or as scouts for war, should only make it more useful in gathering support. I must, though, find those who would willingly join such an endeavour, not only for themselves, but to honor he who gave us dominion.

Relationship Note on Leona

She can't shoot a bow. It's understandable, her role being what it is amongst the King's Own, but still, it's useful to know. I was priviledged enough to give her a short lesson in archery, and she's asked to continue her lessons at times with me.

I train -horses-, hounds and hawks. She is -not- a horse. Not even close. Still. There's a certain satisfaction in teaching

Relationship Note on Kima

... I'm still bruised.

Lady Kima and I discussed the upcoming, likely, struggles. I'd assumed, when the Saiks marched, I would accompany them; I'm a fine horsewoman, and I can use a bow, I know the land and I can bind wounds well. I'd be an aid to them, I though. The Lady Kima decided to assist my training in such matters.

By chasing me around the yard with a staff while I learned to avoid it.

... how did I get bruises in those places?

Relationship Note on Juliet

She has supported me so much. The Rose of Tor, she has styled herself. She seems to live and breathe scandal, and thrive on it. She is so very dear. She, and the Princess like her, have much in common, when I went to pay my respects to the late Baron.

I don't think they can steal me from my Baron. I admit to not quite knowing the laws on this, but I think it might be illegal

Relationship Note on Max

Count Darkwater pressed me for my opinion on the thralls of Thrax. In public. When I demurred, he pressed further, until I left. I'd been talking to Lady Sudara about the beautiful, warm clothes Aurora had made for me, when the Count began to press us.

If you read this, Count Darkwater, I will not comment on the matter of your slaves. It is not my place. I will not trust anyone who so flagrantly ignores the right of hospitality to keep their promise of neutrality.

I'm not precisely sure how ... I won an art competition. Against artists! I think perhaps the judges thought my entry was sweet. I don't know.

Five. Thousand. Silver. I ... FIVE THOUSAND SILVER. I could buy ... well. Almost anything. I could get a bow for that. I should get a bow.

Relationship Note on Juliet

Lady Juliet Fidante, understanding I train both animals and people in better handling of such, asked for instruction. I was only too pleased to help, explaining and demonstrating how a falcon is directed with hand movements and food.

She seemed to find it all very amusing.

I didn't even know you could turn flower petals into a food.

Relationship Note on Eirene

Owls. Apparently I remind her of owls. Vaguely fluffy, drifting around quietly and still deadly. After I commented on it, she said they remind her of the legends of elves; the almond eyes, creatures of the night and such.

It was a good discussion. The Princess Natalia had invited us to talk, but was called away. Eirene is more practical than most of the nobility; comes of being a healer, I suppose. Still.

Owls. Really?

Relationship Note on Natalia

Father, Mother,
The trip to Arx was quicker than I had hoped. There is no word yet from Father, but I know I ride quicker than most messages would come and I hope every day to hear word he is well again. This is the first time I've seen the city alone; and it is loud, with never a moment's silence, for which I am grateful. The people swarm the streets or leave them empty, and I cannot walk smoothly along the byways. I have sent word to our lord Saik and await his convenience, and hope he will accept my aid in place of yours.

The Princess of Grayson wrote to me. I assumed it had been mis-delivered, and sent my apologies to her steward, but she responded; she wishes to see me! I assume some misstep of our family in the past; perhaps a knight whose horse we trained dismounted her grandfather. I will do what I might to settle this.

Ever
