Relationship Note on Jessamine

If you captured sunshine and condensed it into the form of a lovely, yet capable, woman, you would essentially have Jessamine. Her bright smiles and overall demeanor brilliantly light up a room. I have to admit that I'm quite curious to see how she handles in her other calling in life and I'll have the privilege of seeing that soon. As the caretaker of Traders Tavern, I imagine that we'll run into each other quite a bit-- and that isn't a bad thing at all.

Let's be honest. Some people wouldn't expect that a member of the Iron Guard (and especially a non-whiskey-drinking one) could hold a Game Night event that wasn't dice simply being thrown while they loitered around cells. But I have to give credit where it's due. Sir Silas, with Mistress Jessamine's aid, did a pretty commendable job hosting this event. It was nicely decorated and exceptionally enjoyable. I'll undoubtedly be back in the future to lose more coin-that-isn't-mine.

Relationship Note on Dawn

I had the privilege of meeting Lady Dawn for the first time during Sir Silas' Game Night, introduced by Duke Niccolo. She's everything that I had heard and more, but surpassingly easy to talk to and perhaps easier to watch. You know, words about her were always rather inspiring, but few can command such a respect simply by being who they are. I look forward to our interactions in the future, as rare as they might be.

Relationship Note on Gustave

I don't know what it is about Marquis Gustave which draws my attention, aside from his incredibly towering height, of course. Maybe it was the way he called swords little while gripping that exceedingly large weapon in his own hand. Or maybe it was the way he fearlessly dived into the waters at the beach during the Soiree with a spear in hand. Or perhaps it's just the way the seas seem to accept him as one of their own. He speaks of very particular family values, but doesn't tout his rather noticeable lack of extreme vices upon others. Our paths don't cross very often, but every time they do, he has something interesting to share.

Preparations for the People's Choice is well underway. While I'm merely organizing it for those more esteemed, and naturally for the good of those in the Boroughs to whom that bit of the profits is going to, there's a certain satisfaction found in the little things when pieces start to fall into place. Every one of the Great Houses, aside from House Grayson, have thus far extremely graciously promised to have some sampling to contribute and there should be an engaging number of varieties available. With things as they currently are, it's understandable that House Grayson would be occupied with other honorable pursuits, but having their participation for good will all around would certainly keep things interesting. Perhaps they can find someone willing to take to the task for them.

[A missive has been appended, sealed in less than an hour later.]

There seems to have merely been a slight and understandable delay. Members of all Houses have now granted their participation. This should be fun.

Relationship Note on Niccolo

I had a very deliberate purpose when Duke Niccolo Velenosa first granted me his audience, but I was still surprised when he did. I'm very aware of my status. I'm comfortable with it, really. Yet, my resolve and boldness was met with his reflective answers and a remarkable attention to detail despite it. He received me with grace, questioning where it was due, but never exceeding what was necessary for the mere sake of curiosity or prying. He understands that guarded side of me, which I can only assume was one of the many things he picked up when training among his soldiers. Business was, and is, first and foremost, and those lines have never blurred. With our differing priorities and the leagues between us, I really can't emphasize enough how important that is to me.

I'm a person who's protective of my own freedom, my home, my family. He knows exactly where my loyalties lie and what boundaries I will never cross. But he's supported my endeavors with the Boroughs when others snubbed them, provided me with more opportunities than someone like me should ever really have, and offers me a guiding hand when needed. We've crossed sharpened blades and bare fists in training nearly as often as we've shared words; a persisting reminder of just how many arenas he excels in. Friendship isn't a word that I'd use to describe it. It doesn't fit. But I couldn't have fathomed a more compatible patron.

Relationship Note on Jacinthe

Courtesan Jacinthe Whisper embodies everything which the Whisper House is known for; a testament of both perception and grace, being a fluent wordsmith, a provider of visual and, of course, granting entertainment which caters remarkably well to those who she's in the company of. It makes her a delight to be around (that is part of the point, after all) and she's certainly amusing to merely watch at times. I've written plenty of good words about her since I've met her, but I don't think it's necessary. She's more than capable of carving a path herself and I'm curious to where it'll take her.

Relationship Note on Denon

I'd like to say that I chanced upon Courtier Denon through random circumstance, but that isn't true. His reputation as an artist, in many facets, precedes him and I was rather intent on getting to know the man. He was professional on all levels, able to provide both charm and joke amid even talks of business and coin, yet establish clear boundaries to make it certain what to expect. I admit that I'm curious to see how he engages others and if he'll pick up the hints they drop for him. There's a lot to learn from those of his abilities, after all.

Memories of House Redrain's Northern Feast is a bit of a blur to me, but undoubtedly noteworthy. It was an evening of unlikely Silks and high-stakes dancing, far-off stories and pilfered whiskey, numerous spiders and dangerous gifts, ever-watching Hoods and sailor-quantities of rum, misspoken titles and secretive messengers.

The noble presence was resplendent as ever. The Redrain Hosts took their duties to the fullest, with stoked fires both warm and fierce and entertainment always present by wager or whiskey. The Velenosan entourage were eye-catching both in their distinct fashion and individual characters, with perhaps the highlight of the evening being that dangerously intense dance between the Grand Duchess and the Sword of Lenosia. Courtesan Jacinthe Whisper honored those of her particular art and I imagine in the future, she'll be a frequent companion upon the arms of the elite.

I always relish the lounge when I return to my true home, nestled in the oft-forgotten darkness of the city, but even people like me can enjoy a night out. Plus, really, that was a lot of free alcohol provided over bear-skin rugs and roasted boars. That deserves a significant call out.

Relationship Note on Alistair

I wonder sometimes if Inquisitor Alistair and I would've been friends were he not... well, an Inquisitor. Or if when he spoke of glass bottles and forgotten messages if it would've just ended with us brawling in a back alley somewhere. I appreciate his dry humor when it shines through and isn't quite to the level of 'This isn't humor, but me thinking of all the ways to undo you'. Granted, that's probably a rare thing. There's questions sometimes that I want to ask him, provoked by a testament of life worn on his skin. But there's now an undeniable separation between the worlds which stands out as starkly as the color of his robes.

Relationship Note on Aurelian

Prince Aurelian and I chanced upon one another during Admiral Alrec's VIP cruise some time ago. It was his dry joke regarding what would _really_ happen if one sought to save someone by bundling them in a tub full of fuzzy bunnies which stole my attention-- it was a welcome change from his typical reserved demeanor. From time to time, we end up in each other's company, as unlikely acquaintances that edge towards understanding, and he never fails to be chivalrous and considerate. He can be neutral and general when in the presence of others, interjecting in a wide-reaching perspective that's sometimes harder to relate to, but occasionally when he opens up a little, there's a greater and more individualized depth.

Relationship Note on Torian

Torian was my Father's man for as long as I can remember. I've seen just how ruthless he can get, but he's always been easier with the smiles with me. I thought he'd be upset, really, when I split without a word, but I think he almost was more confused that I'd bother to come back once I got away. At the same time, there's some level of understanding for what had me return, that I know if no one else gets-- he does.

He'll deny that he's a font of wisdom, but he spews it more than most, tends to be pretty great on the fucking ego and provides unerring support when maybe he thinks no one else is watching. I imagine sometimes he'd probably still like to cuff me upside the head like he used to be able to do when I was younger, but he knows the way things work, even if he's been halfway keeping himself outside of it. Honestly, I'm glad he took over the Family after my Father died. I wasn't ready then. In the future though? Well. We'll see.

I have the utmost appreciation for those who have fulfilled their training to become true Courtesans. While some may harp or contend about indulgences or less subtle politics and the manner they're done, it would take a special person to refute the fact that what Courtesans do as easily as breathing is nothing short of pure art. The ability to be exactly what people need at that moment, even if they don't quite realize it themselves, without ever losing that special character that makes them unique, is something which deserves that level of respect. Every time I see a wealthier someone who looks incredibly bored without someone to entertain them, I can't help but wonder why they didn't think to hire one for that particular night. More people definitely should. Then again, more people should also probably indulge in whiskey. It's delicious.

Relationship Note on Silas

While it's true that I don't often rub elbows with those of the Iron Guard for rather obvious reasons, Sir Mercier might be a slight exception on rare occasion when he's in a good mood and potentially absent any cause to hunt me down. I appreciate the distinction between the worlds, while facing it all with a pragmatic external aura. He's deceptively easy to talk to and were I a normal kind of woman, I'd be tempted to say that he has a lot of good in him beneath all those layers of Knightly metal. Getting him to appreciate the burn of a good whiskey might be as difficult as convincing him to let me off the hook someday-- but at least one of those might be worth trying.

Relationship Note on Evaine

Starlet Evaine Silverhand is a glorious sight for anyone. She flows through conversation like she was born for it -- and really, she probably was. She's dauntingly difficult to track down at times, but I have full intentions to plant myself in the front row of the Black Rose Theatre and have people throw flowers at her until I might be able to steal her attention again.

Relationship Note on Alarie

Thraxian Seamstress Alarie Harall is brilliant in a way few people are. That isn't merely a testament to her skills and the masterful way she manipulates silk as she affably converses. She's simply pleasant to be in the company of. Conversation flows naturally with her and she's proven herself to be remarkably expedient on top of it. Arx attracts many artisans and there will forever be competition among them, but her quality, of both person and goods, remains top notch.

Relationship Note on Marcas

It was the way that he'd watch a room that first caught my attention. But Captain Marcas is, perhaps surprisingly, one of those people I can relate to. Sure, he might sometimes forget to bathe, and also be a little rough around the edges (not that I've ever minded that)-- but the fact he can drink most men and women under a table (or stool), speak frankly for the most part and still rub elbows enough to tend to his job as necessary means he's a rather perfect release for those rare periods of partial downtime. I expect that we'll clash heads every now and again, and I'm not naive enough to think that he got to where he is without having a history-- but I assume it'll be fun figuring it all out in the process.

Relationship Note on Ida

Ida Ferron's name first reached me early on as one of the people that I should certainly take my time to meet in this city. For reasons only the Gods know, it took me awhile to meet her in person, but it was definitely worth it. Prince Edain had mentioned her in passing in regards to being highly acknowledged. The woman truly has character, depth, energy. At her suggestion, I stopped by her shop east of the City Center, unmistakeable as Ferron Arms and Armor. Although she can only forge up to a standard gauge of steel for now, I admittedly found myself surprised at the quality of her weapons. Each one was rendered with both care and exquisite style. This likely sounds like a shameless advertisement (since in part, it is), but it's honestly rather doubtful as her skill continues to increase that I'd get my weapons anywhere else.

Relationship Note on Isolde

In the depths of the Boroughs, superstitions are as common as the grime which latches upon one's boots, clinging to linen and wools and spreading the muck to that which it touches. It's a healthy thing though, a living and breathing thing which continues through generations and provokes stories and creativity to arise even from the darkest content. It's different here than it is in the Lyceum, a statement everyone who makes the journey can attest, for both negative and positive influence.

But for those who dare to cross the threshold to the Shrine of the Thirteenth, which is both feared and condemned by many here, and see the striking way she serves as Acolyte-- they would have a hard time not being moved by her presence. Many white journals are written with intent to bring nothing but positive praise to those who might look themselves up, to kindle feelings of good will and ensure the shadow they cast is the one which they have shaped themselves-- but this is written with true intent. She's inspiring by the measure of adherence to that which she fully believes in, that which she's fully embraced, and it has a draw of clarity which many lack. Even as a believer in the Pantheon, as one who finds most tithes directed to Mangata and oft to Gild, I couldn't deny her that.

Outside of it, Princess Isolde is nobility who does her House honor. The kind of woman who's words are sweeter than expected, yet ring true with a raw sort of honesty. She's more thoughtful than I could've imagined, even when the essence of the words bite. As a Velenosan Princess, she should never be crossed, but she has a character which should also be enjoyed for what it is.

Relationship Note on Chanse

Chanse Grayhope was always of that age where we never quite ran in the same circles. The one that came between my Father and I. Which basically had him too old to do more than glare at our mayhem and too aloof to bother throwing us in the river for it. But everyone in the Boroughs knows his name and the place he keeps, even if no one would dare to really ask him about his business otherwise. He's the epitome of that sympathetic bartender, except you have to exchange the smiles for scowls and the friendliness for glares. But there's something real about him which makes him almost too easy to both talk to and look up to in the process. I respect him. I always have. And while I know beyond a doubt that he'll always be dangerous and he'll never be a Culler, the whiskey served by him is still my favorite.
