Relationship Note on Gisele

A little high right now. Or maybe a lot.

Got to know Sister Gisele a little bit today. She's nice. Smart. She wanted to help me even though she couldn't, and that was in my best interest from how I understand it. I may have gotten more upset than I should have over that.

Relationship Note on Aureth

Lost a cousin today to the Faith... but we all gained a brother, I suppose. Aureth's scared me over the last few months that I've been back in the city, but now that I'm starting to understand some of what's going on around him, I suppose I feel lucky to be close to someone doing such incredible things.

I have to ask though, does he piss holy water now?

I've spent hours in the archive today. I think it's time to go find something to do before I feel compelled to make a tower of journals in an aisle.

Okay. Time to get serious for a moment. I've been an extra bad pain in the ass lately for my family. We're not talking about the sort of pain in the ass where you sit on a splintering chair. We're talking about accidentally planting your ass down on a bed of sharpened, yet rusty nails, with barbs. There's not gonna be any easy way to get up from that and you're gonna be feeling it for a long time to come.

I took a bigger risk than I should have. I didn't anticipate it affecting you all the way that it is. I'm sorry about that.

They say that blood runs thicker than water. I don't really care about that crap. It spills just as easily with the right tool for the job. People that are loyal and have your back? That's worth more. I've been so fucking worried about my family fracturing apart with Aureth joining the Faith and that Demon Knight trying to drive Fortunato away... well, now I'm the one doing the most damage.

You're one sexy fellow.

You got Mae Culler to tie you up, hit on you, and kiss you. Well-played, hotshot. My hat's off to you.

Relationship Note on Aureth

I am happy to support Aureth's desire to offer a 20% discount to all crownlanders from the Grayhopes.

If you like what I have to offer drop by and we can work something out.

Relationship Note on Calypso

I attended a meeting last night in Lady General Calypso Malvici's war room. It was a new, enlightening experience that was far more interesting than I expected and surprisingly educational. She was a lovely host, complimented one of my ideas, and even let me take a souvenir. What more can a humble commoner such as myself ask for?

I applaud the good foresight of the crown on ensuring that our ships in the harbor are that much safer.

Though I know some of my fellow captains will find being continuously searched and waylaid by inspections to be akin to getting a rudder jammed up their rear I encourage them to think of the greater good here. It would be far too risky to check for bringers at the gates leaving the harbor. Far better to get them at the source, on the ships themselves. Inconveniencing the ship captains that are risking their boats and their lives to get supplies in is a small price to pay to avoid some unpaid tariffs, after all.

I wonder if we'll get compensation for lost cargo that rots in the hold while we wait in line for our turn for our ships to be worked over like a silk in a shady alley.

Relationship Note on Aureth

I'm starting to worry that Aureth is taking to his new holy life too literally.

He also told me that the demon they faced was invisible. How are we supposed to fight things that can't be seen? I'm starting to rethink the poetry approach. Maybe we *can* bore them to death. What other options do we have?

Dear Journal, do let me tell you how I earned my latest wound.

It started with some rumors. I heard that there was trouble at one of the old sewage tunnels and boldly went to investigate. The last thing we want are any more troublesome sorts getting past the guards at the gates, after all. I was trying to get the door to the tunnel open when some other folks came by. Naturally, they were curious about my brave expedition for safety, so I told them they could help me.

My good friend Acacia Culler was able to trick the door open, and once we were inside I suggested that guardsman Sparte keep his lantern high, since we all know that lantern light flickers when Bringers are about. The first thing I found was the body of Rocky. He's an old crony of mine that I've done some trading with in the past. He was maimed almost beyond recognition and if it weren't for some fabulous mint-scented salve we were using, I think several of the group might have lost their lunch from the smell. While they distanced themselves to recover, I took care to check over Rocky's remains for any tokens or notes that I might deliver back to those closest to him. I said some private prayers and left him to his rest. I'm sure the Queen of Endings has already found a new place for him.

I rejoined the group and gave them some encouraging words to continue, for surely Rocky's death suggested greater dangers lurking in the tunnels! Though they were reluctant, I feel I inspired them to stay on task. We encountered some traps. There was a tripwire I pointed out and suggested Asher disarm, and a far more cunning knife trap that I noticed. Before any of the group were harmed by it, I triggered it to set it off, negating it's danger!

As we reached a cross-section in the tunnels, a horde of thugs assaulted us. We tried to negotiate their surrender but they would not relent. We had no choice but to bravely cut them down. I urged Sparte to at least take one captive so that he might be questioned later. I regretfully took a nasty slash wound to my chest, but I had to keep the cretin busy lest he hurt any of the others. Thena helped me end his life.

I'm a humble man, but I feel if I don't document these situations in my journal, no one else will know of what is transpiring in our noble city. The true heroes are Thena and Sparte, Acacia and Asher. My role was minor.

Relationship Note on Talen

I don't know who you are either, but clearly we need to meet. Destiny is telling me we were meant to be the best of friends.

Of course, 'Destiny' is just this combination baker/fortune teller I know who likes to make an extra silver or two by shilling 'fortunes' with her biscuits. I do like her biscuits, though.

Mae Culler asked me to be her boyfriend. She's going to deny it later but she definitely asked.

April 10, 2017, 8:47 p.m.(4/2/1006 AR)

Decided to go over to the Thrax side of the city today. (More blood stains, but much cleaner) I like visiting the Ebb and Flow Inn there, lots of my people. (Sailors, that is. People of the sea!!) I bumped into Mae (always a delight! she's like a delicious spiced rum on a cold day), and she introduced me to some well-to-do folk. The princess was nice (like a cake with some light pink frosting). One of the other nobles got offended when I took too close of interest in her card game. (yesterday's bread. A bit stiff, but still good.) Look. I bathed two days ago, I really don't see what I did wrong.

Whatever.

So I met with a friend about some business. Then I met with some other friends about some other business. Then Thena dropped in, on break from a guard patrol. She told me about how Calaudrin was terribly concerned for my welfare and seeking only the best of health for me. He's such a sweetheart. <3 <3 <3

While we were talking a man came in that bore a striking resemblance to some sketches I was given by Aleksei. Blond hair. Blue eyes. Tall. Strong. It could have been him! I slipped the pictures quietly to Thena and then went over to strike up a conversation with the fellow. You know, ask a few questions? Get a feel for things. Turns out the man in question? Marquis Ford Kennex. (A tall drink of water... Darkwater.)

Kennex didn't seem to like me. I'm not sure why, but that's two for two that I struck out on today. I have decided after no deliberation what-so-ever it had something to do with my shirt. Therefore, I have commissioned the lovely Lyiana (that I only just met, courtesy of the also just-met Simone) for a fine seasilk shirt. Blue. I am certain this will make the difference in future meetings with nobility and/or royalty.

I dedicate this journal entry to you, Lyiana Averdeen. You're a top-notch lady.

I know you're all wondering the same thing...

If a person dies, but rises again from the grave, do we still get to read their Black Journal?

I think there are a lot of legal ramifications we might have to hash out soon.

Relationship Note on Acacia

I'm thinking about getting some singing lessons. Acacia Culler hurt my feelings very deeply when I suggested I could offer a night with a different sort of songbird.

I don't think I'll repeat what she said, but it stung. It stung like a knife with a blade laced in salt being slowly driven into my tender, fragile heart.

I am wounded... on the inside.

Bob probably would have benefited from some kind of lessons to help him curb his violent tendencies.

I also need to make a shout-out to Acacia, who asked me not to steal anything from her room that day she needed help for her man, and then I went and stole something from her room anyway. Well, that flask I took? It *saved my life*. Literally. It's now my Lucky Blue Flask. It can't hold any rum anymore, but it holds my endless gratitude.

So does that knight that could pick out a bunch of disguised Bringers just by looking at them. He was my knight in shining armor. He was my unsung hero (I wasn't in the mood to sing at the time). He was a beacon of rescue (I think he was the one with the sword that *actually* glowed). I never got your name, but hats off to you, mystery knight.

Lastly, some poetry that EVERYONE SHOULD READ!!!

If it bleeds ruddy it's a buddy.
If it bleeds black, attack!
(Or run as fast as you can in the opposite direction screaming "Bringer!")

Relationship Note on Calaudrin

Calaudrin paid me another visit last night. He's so bold. So much raw man. It was all I could do to keep myself from dragging him to a dark corner and ripping his clothing off in ecstasy and desire. Tell me, Journal... Why do I lack the courage and conviction to share my true feelings with him in person? Why must I write about them here instead in vain hopes that he'll take but a moment from his heroic day and stumble across my pining?

Oh journal! What am I to do?!

Even though there is a siege and an army of demons at our gates, my thoughts are only consumed with Calaudrin Estardes.

Magpie Estardes... it sounds nice, doesn't it?
Mag Estardes?
Calaudrin Grayhope?

Does anyone do floral arrangements? I'd like to send something to the Iron Guard barracks.
