Once more, I found myself fighting alongside many people I did not know very well, some of whom were taken from us before I could come to know them. Baron Esteban Saik and Princess Serafine Velenosa come to mind, and though I never met either of them before the battle for Setarco, I will nonetheless remember their names and their sacrifices.

To those who survived the battle, I am honored to have fought alongside you against this enemy. It was your homeland that we were defending, but the Pretender King and his forces have plagued my people for centuries. Whatever may come in the future, I take a great deal of satisfaction in being part of the effort that finally stopped him, a thought I am sure many Mourning Islanders share.

Lord Theron Mazetti, there is no need to thank me. Our cause was just, and I would gladly fight at your side again should the need arise. And thankfully, there will be time for words, and drinks, in the future.

Whatever the reason, it will be good to be on board a ship again. I've missed it, being out on the open water. There is a sense of freedom in it that is hard, maybe impossible, to match. Though I will be fighting on land against this enemy, and perhaps not where I would choose to fight, at least I know I will experience the joy of being at sea one more time.

House Thrax, or the houses of the Mourning Isles in general, are far from the only ones in the Compact who could have spoken up for the virtues of military might. There are plenty of other noble houses across Arvum who rely on their martial prowess.

Relationship Note on Cassima

Perhaps a glass or two of rum before the event would help settle your nerves?

In any case, I am sure the auction will turn out great.

Armies have been mustered, and soon will have their marching orders. We will face a massive force, the likes of which have never been seen before. It is not fear I find myself feeling, though, but rather relief. Relief that the waiting is almost done, that we will be striking against our enemies rather than preparing to do so. Drills and inspections are all well and good, necessary things to ensure that we are in fighting shape. They seem to fall short, however, when you know that there is an enemy out there, waiting to be fought. I look forward, along with the Grim Legion, to giving them that fight.

I don't believe I have ever heard of a surprise wedding reception before. A surprise for the guests, no less. Mainlanders do have some strange notions, but this one was an interesting diversion. It was good to get back into normal clothes, though.

It is interesting to see alliances once thought unlikely at best made reality by conflicts such as that which the Pretender King brings to our doorstep. What I find myself wondering is whether this collaboration will lead to greater understanding between those involved, or if it will fall apart utterly once the storm has passed? I have managed to meet a handful of people while in Arx who give me some small hope for the former, in spite of our powerful tendency toward the latter.

Fear is the guardian of hate.

Past suffering does not excuse present insults.

Prior pain does not forgive current accusations.

To justify thoughtless statements with childhood misery is cowardice. Own your actions and your words.

Worry less about the mercy of the gods and more about the waning tolerance of your fellow man. The vassals of Thrax are patient, and long have we been expected to endure the snobbery and derision of the mainland houses. But when we are called godless, when we are called corrupt, when we are called unjust, we hear and we remember.

And our memories are longer than our patience.
