Been an interesting few weeks, to say the least! Murder mysteries and marsh monsters and what not, a new outfit crafted by the very talented Talia Baseborn, a fine piece of iron star jewelry from Grandmistress Josephine's store - in the NEW store, she moved it what with the kerfuffle in the old one. I'm chuffed, it's much closer to where I live now.

One thing that trade does is to connect people. You get to meet other cultures, you sell them wares that your culture is good at and buy theirs. You talk, you negotiate, you have to have an understanding of their ways to gain their trust, and vice versa. And then you have a relationship, one built on mutual progress and mutual ideas of enhancing the lives of yourselves and the people you live with.

And the people that buy the wares, they get to learn a bit more too about another culture, stories follow along with the items, curiosity follows, understanding grows.

One trader can influence another, simply by virtue of WHAT they want to buy. They influence the other by telling the stories of their society, and what it's like there. Ideas spread, knowledge spreads. If you're becoming a big client, one that buys a lot of wares - you can even start putting some pressure on the quality, how it's made, where it's made, and by whom. It's nothing that happens over night, but it can happen. It DOES happen.

In the end? Money talks.

The house warming party was just as nice as I hoped it would be. Good friends showing up, bringing extraordinary and thoughtful gifts, their best cheerful behaviour and a party spirit.

Looking forward to many more parties in the house!

The Commoners Tournament was as fun as last year. I did well! Came in at fourth place. Caught a huge fish, won the Muddy City run, got a crown for it. Love that crown, sits on my shelf on the ship now.

Congratulations to Caspian Wild who won the whole thing, and to Miss Sydney that won People's choice!

I am also excited to say that Death's Crown is coming along nicely, according to Josephine Arcuri. There'll be some sort of event around that, as well. Something fun.

Had an absolute blast on the Muddy run yesterday, and I admit to some surprise at actually winning, seeing the stiff competition. Ras is one of the most creative when it comes to moving forward! An inspiration for much fun and games in the upcoming months.

I won an absolute marvellous crown. Josephine Arcuri outdid herself, as usual, not only at hosting the event.

I've had a few itneresting weeks again. Most weeks are, truly. Radiant Bliss Whisper herself joined the Harlequins! I was quite star struck, but I believe I didn't make a complete fool of myself, and even if I did, well - fools are entertaining.

It brought to attention something which might be keeping people from joining the Harlequins; though a major part of a Harlequins work is midwifery, councelling the bereaved and offering funeral services, there is room for much more. I mean, look at me - Second First Harlequin, one of the voices of the discipleship, and I don't know the first thing about midwifery, I make an awful grief councellor - though I suppose I'd perform an outstanding funeral service, I wouldn't be anyone's FIRST choice for such a thing. But I am passionate about my godess, and I want to spread her word across Arvum. I embrace life, Her gift to us all. Between birth and death, there is a life to live and she wants us to live it and not squander this gift. I take joy in talking about her, and to help the Harlequins in other ways; collecting money, hosting events, spreading her word. So, if you ever thought the Harlequins interesting but felt unsure? As long as you have the Queen in your heart, you are welcome. It is not up to anyone to decide what god or godess you want to follow and become a disciple of. The Radiant Bliss Whisper proves this. I prove this. If there is a longing in your heart, then follow it. Your God or Godess will know your love, will they not?

I don't know quite how it happened, but it seems I'm spending more and more time doing research lately. Some personal mysteries, and helping others. The scholars at the archives know me by first name by now, we have a jolly good time discussing all sorts of topics, musing over old tomes and interpreting the words. I suppose I caught on to a thing or two by mere exposure and these days I don't even find it THAT boring. Must never be afraid to change your views!

It's been an interesting summer to say the least! The Festival of Death, still ongoing though tapering out towards its end as winter approaches, has been a large success so far, I would say. There's still some spectacular events to happen, so it's not over yet.

Josephine Arcuri is crafting Death's Crown that will be displayed at the Shrine of the Queen. I hear that many people go to her workshop to tell jokes, stories or puns to the metal. I intend to do some more of that myself - I told it a good pun, but I got some stories to tell to it as well. It'll be an artifact of a special kind. A work from human hands to the Godess that was lost to us for so long. What is to say we do not create our own new rituals and traditions, our own artifacts and memoribilia, when the ones that were there a long time ago, are now lost to us? It is, after all, a new beginning, thanks to the tenacity of Legate Aureth and others in bringing her back to us.

I've done a fair deal of sailing. Particularly fun was exploring the islands of Kennex waters, and the good results of that. It was amazing to sail with so many others and work together towards a common goal, it is not something I've done in the past. The crew liked it as well and I can see us doing something similar again.

We've also done a fair deal of good trade in the south, focusing more on the Lyceum side of things lately. I got some Lycene blood in me, maybe it calls me there? Though really, it's probably the fact it's warm and nice and there's amazing beaches and the best wine.

I turned thirty years of age. I forgot all about it, but it didn't matter that much. I celebrate each day like it's my birthday.

What a week, to say the least. I've made a new friend, a most fantastic person whom I will share many laughs and adventures with - I can tell already.

I found Archlector Brigida's staff and I'm chuffed she got it back. Makes for a good story, that! Lovely lady, reminds me a bit of my neighbor when I grew up, she always yelled at us to stop being so noisy or stop stealing the apples from her tree (the branches were hanging into OUR yard!), but she was also protecting us by being the one person on the street who knew what everyone was doing all the time. The Inquisition and the Iron Guard used to come around and ask HER as soon as anything happened, I believe.

Anyway! This has all resulted in something even better; Death's Crown to be crafted by Guildmaster Josephine Arcuri herself. I'm as excited as a five year old promised all the candy he can eat and Josephine's ideas make me quite happy.

The spa day at the Grotto was brilliant. I'm still feeling two inches taller from the massage.

The Shade

The light over Lowers is starting to fade
The sounds of the streets reduced to a buzz
That's when the alleys and bars come to life
With the darkness of night comes the Shade
Who walks right amongst us, just one of us
Watching and guarding and sharing our strife

The sun over Lowers is starting to rise
The Murder is quiet, the dock stirrs once more
The hawkers are shouting, the kids run around
And very few knows that the Shade in disguise
Has kept us all safe from the dark come ashore
Cause a shadow itself knows that darkness abound

I don't consider myself a very reflective person. In fact, one of my major strengths is that I don't really spend a lot of time considering things before doing them. (Some claim this is a bad thing, but I disagree wholeheartedly.)

It's baffled me many times when people tell me 'But, think of what could go wrong!' I don't see it like that. I see it as 'Think of everything nice that could come from this!' - and hence I go ahead. If everyone always thinks 'but it could go wrong' - would anything ever change? Anything ever happen, to become better, or more interesting, or more EXCITING in your life?

That said, I MIGHT consider things a BIT more these days. Some people got this way of getting through to me. Good friends (or divine advice) that don't discourage me, but that point out flaws in my ideas, honing them to become more likely to succeed. They don't tell me 'you can't do that' - which is the most likely way to make me do just THAT - but they help me find the best path. Not that I'm terribly afraid of failing, that's part of life. If you fail, least you tried, and you can try again but in another way.

Of course, this only goes for things that don't get you killed, although technically, that's not the end of anything either. You can always try again... in your next life.

The Spider Petting Zoo was amazing, thanks to all that showed up - and because of Miss Saro Ulvieto's expertise at the eight-legged little critters. So many ADORABLE spiders there!

I completely forgot to tell Gianna we were hosting it there, but I'm sure she'd be fine with it. Also... No wait, I best tell her that myself, I don't want to spol the FUN SURPRISE!

So is there going to be a trial by combat or not? I was gearing up for a fun event to watch. Everyone's being so SERIOUS about it, but seems to me that Ras just wants to do a show of it.

But whatever happened to fines? Is trial by combat the new thing? I mean, if that's the thing, most would take a beating and NOT pay, cause those fines can be hefty and most would be okay with a beating, not like those that do crime don't know how to take a beating - in fact, some might even know how to dish out a beating. Just a theory, I wouldn't really know.

That school will be amazing, Princess. And I'll sing your song everywhere.

"Oleander of Lenosia"

I see diamonds in pink and my heart skips a beat
She's the one that will always beguile
And in that moment I see her, when we finally meet
I stop breathing in hope of a smile

She's that sweet danger blossom, Oleander she's called
With a scent that will make me all dazed
And in motion, so perfect - I am enthralled
While when still I am just as amazed

She is charming and lovely, it makes us all yearn
And in secret admire and pine
But there's something about her I wish I could learn
something puzzling and nearly divine

And I know she will fight, she will never abide
There is hope, there is passion and steel
She's the famed Oleander, Lenosia's pride
And she's here now to spin on the wheel

Looking forward to the next Festival of Death event - the Spider Petting Zoo! Miss Saro Ulvieto of the Bard's College will be main hostess, with me as co-host. She's a bit of an expert on spiders and will have various kinds for wiewing, even petting. I'll bring Silk, my own spider. In fact, people WITH spiders can bring them along!

There'll be games. Also prizes.

The fashion show to the Queen of Endings was AMAZING. The outfits were jaw-dropping, the judges must've struggled really hard to pick, and some of THEM wore outfits that could've easily been modeled and maybe even have won.

Congratulations to Princess Gwenna Redrain who came first, and Lord Martino Malvici second, and third to my good friend Nightingalle Gianna Whisper.
To the Judges, thank you.
And Princess Helena - you were splendid.

Spreading the Queen of Endings and Mother of Beginning's word this way is amazing. It makes people curious, and curiosity brings a need for knowledge. I expect many more visitors to the Shrine in the next few days.

It's amazing to see the crafters being inspired by Death in their works lately. I've spent quite a few silver on some of their works, myself. The Festival of Death is ongoing, with events spread out over the summer. I hope there'll be something for everyone to enjoy.

Not sure how many read my whites, but anyone who does who wants to just learn more about the Queen of Endings and Mother of new Beginnings, seek me out. Nothing I like talking about more!

What an interesting few weeks. First a total HAPPY surprise, Legate Aureth asking me to become the second First Harlequin. Haha, second first Harlequin. Also, Voice of the Voice of the Queen of Endings and Mother of Beginnings. The opportunity for fun titles are near endless. Shouldn't there be a Third Wheel title in the Harlequins by the way? I need to suggest this immediately.

Life is good. Death is amazing. The wheel spins on and I'm having a ball. Quite literally there'll be a ball coming up too, by the way. Oh, also a poetry reading in just a few days, led once again by the LOVELY and AMAZING Princess Helena Redrain. I even wrote a poem myself for it. The theme? Why, Death herself, of course.

The fashion show isn't far away either. And there'll be more events!

I wanted to know if bats lay eggs and that path led me down to become First Harlequin. There was some stuff in between there too, but my POINT is that you shouldn't be afraid to look for answers and bother people about things, because life's short and you best have fun while living it and poking at things will lead to very entertaining and amazing results.

Except some things, some things you shouldn't poke at. A lot. Like sleeping bears. Well, maybe a LITTLE if you can also run very fast, then it's no trouble.

New Socks - The Josie Poem

New Socks

By Evaristo Arterius
To Joscelin Arterius
The best cousin-sister

Fresh scones and cussing
'Take your dirty boots off!'
A hole in my sock
and there's more cussing
and worry about my feet
but also
new socks

I eat ten of the scones
and half of the butter
when you're not watching
and you cuss again
I laugh and run away
But I'm wearing
new socks

But I always came back
and you always forgave me
One year, a month, a week
felt like nothing when
I came back to scones
and cussing
and new socks

But now you feel that wonder
of new Beginnings and adventure
That which always worried
that which always baffled
Now you know
and you can love the new world
with cussings
and new socks

Silk crawled out of the bag when I visited the Iron Guard Barracks. (It was a BUSINESS MEETING, nothing else.) Iron Guards, such staunch, brave protector of our city. And very much devote, as well!

Anyway, Silk is in there SOMEWHERE. I'm sure she's fine, and that there'll be quite a few less mice around the place while she's having fun there, but even so, I'd like her to find her way back. I keep going there to bother the guards in the reception, but so far, nothing.

Very crafty spider though. I keep her in a cozy box with netting. The netting had broken a little and she crawled out, then out of the bag and somewhere into the barracks. Maybe she likes the air in there? Or there's plenty of mice there? Insects?
