I have to have that ring. I MUST have it. Why do the incredible crafters of this city torment me so! I think I shall die if I it isn't mine.

I do love the variety of events one can attend about the city if one's paying attention. From a party in a frozen garden, to a release party for a family's latest prized whiskey, to weddings and demonstrations of skill, there's quite a bit to stumble across whilst roaming. And through this fabulous way to meet people, I'm finding more and more cousins (and more distant relations)... and more invites to events.

Perhaps I might need to hire an assistant to help me keep track of these things.

I am so very disappointed in the compact. The anger towards prodigals, the blatant racisms, the unfairness. I see a city of many different kinds of people, different colors, fabrics and food. Different hair, and bodies, softness and hardness, warriors and scholars, happiness and sorrow. The unrelenting bitterness makes me so very sad.

I am so far behind in planning for all the upcoming balls! Someone must tell me what the themes will be this year! What is rumored to already be in the works?! It would just be horrific to show up at a party wearing the same mask as someone else!

The snow is still falling! Because we're in the thick of winter. I love it. But I am getting restless, which is my own fault. For having ideas! And things that I want to do. But it's okay, I can keep it get together. I'm going to enjoy the end of these chilly days while I have the chance

Spring, I think, is going to be bountiful in many ways. Starkly contrasted to what this winter has been for me. There is the potential of expanding Eurusi fashion and cultural understanding.

Of course, the potential lingers in other places too that my mind would rather not wander. It has been many, many years since I've had to think about war but I trust in the Peerage and in those who are making efforts towards a better, safer future for us all.

Meanwhile, I will do my best to bolster those who need it most and my boots are suffering for it.

I attended the Saikland's Costa Lavica Whiskey Release party this evening. Or was it last evening. I lost the time. It was a good time, a nice break from the looming possibility of another battle before us. Tomorrow will begin going over more work. Making sure the defenses are set. That all is prepared. For just in case. Because you can never be too prepared.

I'm seriously ready for winter to end.

When it was suggested to me to journey to Arx from Setarco, I thought this would be a grand adventure - no one said anything to me about bloody freezing cold weather and snow falling from the sky interminably. I'm very grateful to have found the pools at the Golden Hart, where I can at least take a deep and, while it's still dealing with the snow, there's at least some warmth there that will keep me remembering what spring and summer are like while we wait for them to arrive.

I've made a lot of friends since being in the city, but I've had the distinct pleasure of having 2 of my best friends return to the city. Rarely do you find a friendship to span so many years. We change. People change. And in doing such, we seem to outgrow these friendships. Even rarer yet, you are friends with the sibling of the other. Twins no less. Happy birthday Neilda and Medeia. I literally don't think I'd be alive without the 2 of you. For some many reasons. Or be as adventurous. Maybe the 2nd part is a lie. But I do appreciate you both in more ways than one.

Remember, wise general, that it is the greatest weakness to attribute infinite credit to particular authors.

Time is the author of all authors, and, therefore, of all authority. Truth is the daughter of time not of authority. It is not wonderful, therefore, if the bonds of antiquity, authority, and unanimity have so enchained the power of man, that he is unable to become familiar with things themselves.

Consequently behold not the words on the page, but instead that such words ring powerfully despite time's passage.

Winter turns towards spring in the endless dance of the seasons. The snow is thinner, almost gone in some places; the ice in the harbour is clearing. Soon Arx and Arvum will waken from their sleep, and life will bring energy and colour to the city once more. Trade will return in full measure, as it does every spring, and the docks will be busier than they've been since the whirlpool first sprang - or sucked - into life.

And what of the wars? They've not gone away. Spring brings campaigning season, after all, and I've a list of things to do in Arx that's longer than my arm even in Tanith's writing. It's been a pleasant interlude, a time to catch our breaths, and yet the end of winter and the return of weather I can move around the city in will mean fewer people I want to go and see.

That's the way of life, I suppose. Still, I look forward to the chance to walk about outdoors without freezing my fingers off.

Politicking has never particularly been my forte, scholar, but as of late I have been forced to take notice of some things and involve myself in others. I am hopeful that all peoples of the Mourning Isles can realize the benefit of acting in concert and directed by a singular purpose. The Traitor Duke and his allies from the east must be seen as an opportunity for us to solidify the might of the Thraxian navy and reaffirm our position in the Compact.

It will be nice to see this winter come to its end. Business at the shop has been awful for worryingly long. The whirlpool may be gone, but its effects are not. And jewelry is not a necessity, I admit.

The family shop aside, one thing that happens each winter happened again - I've had time to play. With wire and stones, of course. I finally finished something that has been sitting on the workbench as a sketch for too, too long. It feels good to make something so intricate. I've been working with glass beads for such a long time that I'd nearly forgotten how it felt to work in stones.

Another good week with one of my students. Truly, several years ago, the idea of having even one would have had me laugh. Now there are responsibilities and being mature.

Still time, though, to adjust to our delightfully Lycene drinking habits.

Dame Ida. She is a wonder. And a bit of a sadist, I think. How will I ever bear to part with these glorious blades and hairpins? I would accuse her of making them incredible just to torment me, but I know from experience that everything she makes is spectacular so I cannot. Still, they will make an exciting addition to the event. If I don't cancel it so I can keep them...
