Not a dancer normally? We'll see what we can do about that. Dancing's fun, everybody loves dancing.

I hear people talk about opportunity being like a house where, wen one door closes another one opens. I don't know about opportunity, but that sounds like a drafty house.

Got me a copy of Mistress Perronne's Merchant Almanac.

Don't reckon I've had many books that weren't just for fun reading, but as I don't travel much myself, this may well help with expanding the business.

The orphans of Culler's Safe Harbor House have been moved until this crisis is over. Additionally, experienced members of my family (clad in the best leathers, mine) will be controlling the animal population with force of arms.

Hearing a lot about the Dragon that won blessed dressed at the Menagerie Masquerade.

Dutchess Pravus makes for an excellent model, but I'm not shy about having been the leather stitch that completed her dress and boots for her.

Might need to think about expanding the shop if she continues to be a fan of my working.

Crown School opened, taking the success we've had with our Safe Harbor House in the Lowers and emulating it for the Upper Boroughs.

Nice to have ones idea proven a good one. Still be plenty of orphans down here though.

For our future records, as the great God Vellichor inspires us:

Many have strong opinions about the Inquisition, and at the time of this writing their reputation is improving from what it has been in the past. Still, truths must be recorded and so to that end It should be documented that the current Master of Questions, Prince Laric Grayson, continues to hold property that I gifted to my brother some seven months ago.

I've done well for myself, I was able to leave the life of the sellsword and find a craft, thanks to Kenemir's tutoring. Being one of the best lederers in the biggest city in the land has offered me a comfortable life. And so in my comfort I sought to help my brother who is not blessed with my talents or my luck. He's still a sellsword and, love him as I do, that is all he may ever be. So at great expense I invested in his future and he was gifted a very fine ax. The kind of ax that gets a man work and gets him paid well.

He's a rough man, and he's been in some fights and things, that's no secret. The Master of Questions suspects him for a crime committed over a year ago. So the Master of Questions (But apparently not answers) is holding this ax as evidence. This ax, that wasn't forged or gifted until half a year after the crime that they want to pin on my brother.

My brother is many things, but he can not, as far as I know, travel through time. No one can. Therefore, I have to wonder what reason Prince Laric Grayson really has for holding on to that ax, when it is clear to any man with any level of mastery over questions, that it can't be related to the crime.

Are we taking a step backwards now? Is this how corruption starts? Will my goods and wealth be safe from the Inquisition's reach?

Will yours?

It should be noted that, if you're in the market for leather armor, you need look no further than my shop in the lowers.

Many have surely heard, and the record will show as well, that Sir Jeffeth Bayweather (also of The Lower Boroughs) has one a hard fought duel this day.

By our laws and traditions the Gods were on his side, but he was wearing a full kit of some of my best work as well.

It's like I always say, you wouldn't be caught dead in my armor!

Gets hard, doing the same thing every day. Taking care of the kids, working the shop, trying to carve out a life worth living for the orphans and common folk.

It's all worth it, but I'd be a liar if I didn't miss traveling and the old life.

Maybe I need to take another trip.

Relationship Note on Joscelin

If she needs good drink and good company, I can make a recommendation on both.

For the record, whatever Furen Culler did with this family while I was serving as a guard for hire, I am not Furen. I worked closely with many nobles in my youth and now, as head of the family, I understand very well their place (as well as ours) in this world.

Whatever Furen Culler was, I am a humble leatherwork and teacher. I care for dozens upon dozens of orphans, providing them shelter and an education that will allow them the same possibilities my training offered me.

As for my family, we can't control who you're related to can you? Down here in the lowers we don't have the burden of political marriages and so there's probably three figures worth of Cullers if I had to reckon it. Some of us serve the faith, some the crown. Dozens of us fought at The Pit in the war of silence. I don't have no legal power to force my kin to do nothing, but I can continue to set a good example and do right by our king, who I think is a fine fellow.

Don't think I haven't been asked to swear my oath to another, but I swore to the Crown and I intend to continue to honor our king by doing what I can for the common folk what need help.

I'm no lawyer, I'm just a sellsword that took to settling down in the city and learning a trade. The law is interesting though, as most written things can be.

I keep my nose clean too, but it still be interesting. like I wrote about the goat you know, and how do you judge something like that? Two commoners I fighting over a goat, both sworn to you, what a mess.

Then I thought about this, another layer. Let's say a commoner is sworn to you, and they do their service and you release them in good standing. THEN somebody accuses them of taking a goat back when they was sworn to you.

NOW who sits as judge? What if your commoner is sworn to another house? The crown? What about the fact that accusing a commoner of a crime when they was sworn to you is a clear judgment on your house? Certainly the master at the time must be responsible if it is there reputation?

Maybe if you have a new master they would pass judgement, but what if the goat their is crownsworn? The crime accused was alleged under the old master.

Maybe I'll ask a lawyer. Or somebody that likes riddles?

You know my fellow common folk like to chide the peerage about their responsibilities but the truth is, and I guess that's why I write this, for the historical record. The truth is it is a burden. Got a mate who's not going to marry his love because of it. Some guy accuses another guy of taking his goat or something and then a noble has to sit and hear them and decide. Who wants to answer so many questions? And people always trying to scam you, take advantage of you, insult your house. They can have it I say.

Relationship Note on Joscelin

I think we talked one about the art of mystery. We common folk have that freedom you know, the peerage comes from a place and has a name and that's supposed to mean something. Crownsworn born up from the mud, don't have no expectations. We can be whatever we can make ourselves to be. I happen to make myself a mystery. Keeps life flexible.

Hear a lot of talk about people drinking too much. Likely another contest. I'm a modest man and I never over indulge, but if I did, I might try to resolve my issues with some tea and fruit juice.

If anything can be learned from recent events, it's that it might be better to ease your way in to things, rather than smash your way in.

I had intended to include more context, but it tickles me without the context, so I think I'll leave it be.
