Relationship Note on Branan

The Lycene Poet I have met a few times, mostly during his visits to the Grotto (which he seems to do quite regularly). He certainly has a way with words, but it is his colourful imagination that has impressed me the most. Even if being a scribe appears to be his calling, his painted art is lovely also.

Relationship Note on Aldwin

Though he was the first person I met properly when I returned to Arx, it has only been recently that I've spent more time speaking with Aldwin. The Archscholar is wonderful company, and as kind as he is wise. Now he has been convinced to spend more time away from his work I am more than happy to help see him relax away from the Academy and Shrines, a little more often at least.

Relationship Note on Selene

Radiant of the Whisper House. I could not think of a more apt description than that of her title; Radiant. I have only met the woman the once and it was a brief but inspiring introduction. I look forward to speaking to her more in future, and too for her to visit the Grotto.

I will admit, I do not pray as often as I probably should and nor do I visit the Shrines. The last few nights since the news of Baron Sadoletto Saik I have burnt sage herbs and incense from the sill of my window. The candle set between them burns throughout the night, and since I found myself watching it until the wick is smothered by the pool of its wax. The Greens mourn, and I feel myself despairing for not being home.

Baron Sadoletto Saik was a well-loved leader, and I know he is sorely missed. May he be remembered in the hearts of those who knew him closely, and the thoughts of those that admired him. May he rest.

Relationship Note on Leola

I had the pleasure of meeting Leola just the other day on her arrival to Arx. She is a trainer of beasts from the Saikland Greens, and from a well-respected family of similarly skilled trainers, as I recall. Though I think she is far more comfortable in the open meadows, and sprawling wilderness then she is on the city streets; she will find her feet quickly enough. I look forward to seeing her confidence grow, and to see the results of her hard work with Lord Eos’ next warhorse; though I suspect she will have many commissions beyond that before too long. She reminds me of home when home was a happy thing to remember, and I have not been homesick in such a very, very long time.

Relationship Note on Jovarn

It is remarkable considering how vast the Compact really is, the city of Arx can make it seem such a small place sometimes. In a sea of strangers, and a tide that brings more to the city with each passing day, seeing a familiar face is something of a charming novelty. And of all the possibilities from my life travelling the Compact, meeting Jovarn again was the last person I would expect to see here. In all honesty, I thought he met his end at the hands of an enraged Count some years back, but I am as glad as I am wary that was not the case. I am not sure Arx truly understands what has arrived, but it is a true delight to see my old friend again. I just hope he behaves himself-- to some extent anyway.

This week has been far busier than I first anticipated. A dear client of mine, from many moons ago, wrote to inform me of his plans to build a bathhouse here in Arx which I thought was an exciting enough idea as it was. It is exactly what this city needs! A place dedicated to opulent relaxation where people can go and soak away their troubles and all the negativity that comes in these darker times; somewhere to unwind and regroup without having the usual rowdiness of taverns and inns. I told him as much, and he seemed particularly pleased I was so delighted by the idea. I expected he would ask me for some manner of input on the design of the place, perhaps the decor, or even ideas for the wine list but he didn't. No, he asked that I manage it in his stead! I am without question honoured and thrilled he thought to ask me, and I accepted graciously.

The past week has been seeing to the finer details of the Grotto since the main construction was already settled by the time I was told about it. Everything is in place now, and the bathhouse is fully functional! I will have to plan a proper opening event for it which will keep me busy in the coming weeks, and if not that the mere management of the establishment certainly will.

It is a shame I missed the tea tasting. I will have to endeavour to attend if there is ever another, and perhaps ask Princess Sophie if she would like to attend also.

I do apologise for so few entries of late, in the last few days past I have been out of sorts and not felt up to much outside of my apartment. Something though did bring me to smile enough that I wished to make note of it. I was woken by a delivery boy early this morning, and not having expected anything was surprised to discover it was a present! The brooch is a stunning pearl set in silver, the craftsmanship in and of itself is noteworthy and I doubt it comes as a surprise that it is the work of the Jeweller, Mistress Joscelin Arterius. And the note she sent with the gift detailed it was commissioned by an admirer, which is remarkably sweet. If indeed the admirer chose the pearl themselves, they must have an exquisite taste for all things precious, or a remarkable eye for quality.

It reminds me that it is not always the great deeds that change the world, or make the greatest impact. Sometimes all that is needed is a little act of kindness, a gift, or encouraging word, to make another's day that little bit brighter.

Relationship Note on Eos

Lord Eos Saik is a diligent man, an honourable knight, and venerable commander of the men in his company. It was without hesitation that I agreed to be his protege, and I am humbled that he thought enough of me to ask. That is not to say I cannot comprehend the rationale behind his offer, but that is neither here nor there. I am without doubt he will expect of me the same he does of himself, or any of his soldiers, albeit in a very different capacity. I only hope I can live up to his expectations of me.

Relationship Note on Sophie

Princess Sophie Valardin makes for the most charming company when taking a garden stroll. Not only charming, but she has a very broad knowledge of the plants and flowers that make up the stunning gardens of Axr. I look forward to learning more about her over tea.

Relationship Note on Calypso

Lady General Calypso Malvici is a woman quite unique. I have enjoyed her company on more than one occasion now, and hope that there are many more opportunities yet to come. She has been kind enough to offer to teach me the how not to maim myself with a blade; I feel that is proof enough of the woman's patience and bravery. And even though I do not see myself being the next great sword fighter, I can foresee how I might integrate what she teaches me into dance.

From what I have seen of Lady Sylphie, she is a pragmatic woman with both refinement and grace to her credit. I look forward to future gown shopping and more evenings with fine wine, conversation, and sweet desserts.

Relationship Note on Ianthe

Mistress Ianthe has a fine eye for quality, which is something I very much appreciate, and will have to seek out her opinion on fabrics for future ensembles. I am certain she has many stories to tell, and I hope to hear more of them in time.

The talented bards of Axr at the Triumph Plaza made this evening's event a true delight to attend. Everyone who performed made a wonderful effort, adding to each tale with their own flair and vibrant style (though admittedly, I had not gathered drunk to be a 'style' as it was in one case.) and I was lucky enough to have a seat among three charming women throughout the duration. My praise goes to the hosts of the event as well, Lady Dawn and Prince Darren, since it would not have come about without them. And the pastries provided by the Marquessa Samantha were an absolute treat.

I had the great pleasure of participating in the Golden Arrow Competition this week, hosted by the charming jeweller Mistress Joscelin, Lady Dawn and Master Silas who all served as the judges for the event. And I must say they did a fabulous job of putting the competition together, not a single fault throughout the entire affair.

It has been a while now since I last practiced, but I enjoy the sport greatly and could not help but join in. I will be the first to admit my performance was mediocre at best, but in the company I was in amongst I am not surprised. Master Aureth who tied with myself with four points did admirably, and the Redrain Princess set a high bar with her shots. Bravely followed by Princess Lou (that I think the Jeweller hostess made some faux pas of title, though I missed it myself.) that took to the further targets willing to take a risk, I for one, was not. Though the winner was clear when the last of the Master Viktarkim's shots landed as a bullseye! The first two shots I thought were impressive enough, and the man very much earnt his win.

The prize looked spectacular and I would call the whole event an utter success! I did not expect to win, and against other skilled archers I am not at all ashamed to be bested. I hope by the time the next rolls about I will have more practice in.

Relationship Note on Victus

While lunching, without the actual lunch, with Lady Kima I had the honour, albeit brutish and brief, to have met Lord Victus Thrax. On telling me he had been sent to Axr, in part, to garner some more courtly mannerisms I did offer my services. After all, etiquette and sophistication are trades I deal in regularly. Though I left with the feeling the offer will likely not be taken up any time soon, if ever. There is no harm in trying, is there.

Relationship Note on Kima

After all the couriered messages through the years, and even more recently here in Axr, I was delighted to happen upon by Lady Kima Saik in the flesh at long last. It feels like an eternity and yet that no time at all has passed. As bright and vibrant a woman as she was a young girl, ever quick to tease and yet there is a great deal more wisdom in her then I think she realises. I have missed her company a great deal for all the time I have been away, and I do not think I realised just how much until I saw her. There is still a great deal to catch up on between us, perhaps I will prolong my stay a while longer.

I do normally promise to come to the Scholars the day I arrive back in Axr and as that was not the case this time, forgive my tardiness. A further change of tradition will be my saving you the hours of my regaling the truly thrilling tales of my exploits since the last visit...

No need to look quite so relieved, scholar.

Regardless, the last of my travels have seen many ships and carriages and I am far too exhausted to repeat the whole of it. I am particularly devastated that I had missed the recent gala. Truly a travesty if ever there was one. I will be certain not to miss the next. There were not too many ballroom affairs in the Isles and I do so miss them.

Which reminds me I must seek out a tailor. I have already grown bored of all the ensembles I had made in Setarco; something bright and fresh will no doubt brighten my mood. Lady Kima has suggested an apparently remarkable seamstress, but for now I feel I still require a day or so of recuperation. Do not be forlorn scholar, I will return with the details of my voyage through the Isles another day.
