Relationship Note on Valery

Timid, soft-spoken but altogether kind. Her mannerisms make me wonder what cruelty she has witnessed in her life and what has brought her here, but it is all for the better now that she has entered Redrain's service. Her knowledge of the wilds is valuable, her dedication to its flora and fauna.

Now to get her to see that the smallest nudge can start the avalanche.

I have no doubt of the winter and cold in my being, but it is the sun I feel I am lacking. I have been told that mine is a cold fire, cutting deep and blackening the flesh all the same.

I have acquired a vulture. I think the most amusing part of this is not that his name is Dangerfloof, but that the guards are already sketched out by the way he waddles after them 'as if waiting' as they say.

Relationship Note on Asger

I feel like I am going to be gifted whiskey or the carcass of an elk by this man, but I find little reason to protest against either.

Relationship Note on Valencia

A Southern transplant that married into the Redrain name. She tries, she really does. She has a mind for the more social maneuvers rather than the martial, though we have quite the surpluse of the latter in our family. It may be good to have a bit of the former and she seems willing to put it to use..if pointed in the right direction.

I feel myself turning to stone, the cold of the North creeping into more than just my gaze and tones.

But, is it truly a loss? It is to stone we turn when we need our walls, our foundations and fortifications. It is the stone that whets and hones the blade, that grinds the wheat in the mill. The accumulations of which inspire so much awe when one casts their eyes upon the towering snowy crags of the North.

Even they can make music when the wind whips through forgotten canyons, when a single stone is tossed upon still waters for a solitary staccato note of melody.

Even the stilled and silent can sing, however minute when assisted.

I only hope I find the applications.

If the blade is honed yet never sees service, it ceases to be a tool and becomes mere ornamentation.

I am not in the business of decoration and keeping up trite appearances. I am honed for purpose and not to languish until the will whithers and the mind grows antiquated.

I will move forward alone if I must.

Relationship Note on Anze

Don't forget this 'huffy' baby sister is still the one that caused oh so many black eyes and sudden bouts of eating snow and dirt for you and Ferg.

Relationship Note on Calypso

There is a reason I am the Redrawn they don't think twice about when vanishing into the snows and wilds - I was never made for courtly graces. That, and things go a touch more smoothly when I am not around.

I have your back even if you do not see me. Call it a trick of my trade?

You are always welcome, whiskey or not. There are a dwindling few I still trust and I am glad to have you among them.

If it isn't the drink that will kill me, then it will be me stepping on a broken bottle and bleeding out.

Long story short, Anze dragged me out of the estate today. It must have been quite the amusing spectacle for the guards with how I kicked and punched.

I want to leave and vanish into the snows, forget my name and the responsibilities tied to it, but my family and dreams simply won't allow it....Anze in particular.

What the actual fuck is going on these days? I think I'll stay in the estate a touch long and let the big wigs suss this one out. They know where to find my sword if they have need of it.

Once more the Scout of the Snows ventures North; I think I'll stay and send the response back home. That is the far more appealing of my options.

I saw them again. Same result, same reception from those around me.

The Spirits continue to test me and father's words still ring true in my ears as the cacophony of voices continue to clamor around - What is hidden in snow is revealed at thaw.

Relationship Note on Signe

When she first arrived to the city her and I had our differences, but what is one to expect with Shaman that adhere to different paths? I believe it was moreso she needed time to adapt to the city. I know I had to. Now that she is here I am glad, having taken her under my wing in a way to help her find her voice and the confidence to carry it through to her faith. It isn't the family name that we serve in this capacity, nor the banner of fealty. A higher calling is attributed that superlative for a reason.

After that ritual she assisted me with? Well, she'll be just fine here.

A newly forged weaponsmith that Darren has taken under his wing as protege. She likes whiskey, weapons, and snarking from the sidelines - not a bad mixture at all. I think her and I will get along just fine.

The Night Grove.

As we approached the forest grew stiller, a silence that stifled and seemed to abhor every sound we made no matter how small. Whether it be the clink of the sword in its scabbard or the puff of breath from the horse's flaring nostrils, it all seemed an affront.

It was I that first heard then and Aislin that first saw them, but the elves saw us long before we were aware of them. Hunting Bringers, they say. We got to do that for them soon enough and succeeded where they had failed.

The silence as one approaches the Bringers is suffocating. I feared my heart racing in my chest would give away my position as I picked my way through the shadows towards them.

The elves are cruel to some, amusingly sarcastic to others. I simply think their views , their reality requires a different set of morality. If their lifespans are truly what they claim them to be then no wonder they think us a laughing matter, fodder for folly.

I do not fear them nor do I detest them. I only find myself increasingly curious and my appetite for knowledge far from sated.

Relationship Note on Dawn

The Lady Regent and I had only spoken a handful of times before I was appointed to this new Low Council to the Crown. I don't know how I won over her confidence, but I'll consider it a mark in my favor either way.

The woman has risen to great heights in a short matter of time, but father always said don't fear the individual who rises to power but rather those that manage to hold onto it. It is easy to claim, but even harder to hold.

The Lady Regent seems a good wrangler.

Relationship Note on Agnarr

A giant of a man from Northern stock; I have hired him to be my personal guard. He has told me of his past and the reasons for what he does now, but for I'll see to it that he is helped whether it is to get back to where he was or where-ever it is he wishes to go to next.

I wouldn't have made him shave the beard even if I did win the bet. It is too fetching on him.

Sword of Nightgold. Likes his stories and his whiskey, though I hope he is smarter now to know not to wrestle a bear when other drunken asses are goading you on.

Relationship Note on Cybele

Another Shaman, but a Shav, from the North. I don't know what to make of it, whatever it prefers to be called. It is smart and with a good wit about it. I think it will be a good addition to our faith represented in the South.
