Valardin's Taste of Arx event went well, I think. Frankly it was quite a blur up until the moment I was tag teamed by my sisters. I heard someone tsking over my public use of foul language. To that person, I deeply apologize.

It's been an in intense couple of months, filled with meetings and planning and yet more meetings. But also success, even if it's bound to come at a price. I'll take solace in the comfort and company of my family, for as long as I'm able.

Relationship Note on Kael

You honestly have the best towers in the entire Oathlands. They deserve to be in a book somewhere. Has anyone put them in a book yet?

Relationship Note on Jael

Sometimes even now, Jael and myself are prone to moments of sibling bickering. But there's also many more moments where she knows my mind as well as I do and there's a comfort to that. I've never for a moment regretted the decision to bring her on as a Voice for our house.

I had a good chuckle this morning. Are we truly going to be upset that someone has a strong dislike of winter when there's so many more important things to be concerned about?

This spring we'll finalize the work on the College of Agriculture. It's been years in the making and suddenly I won't have that sitting on my plate anymore. It's a strange feeling, it makes me feel a little anxious. I suppose we'll just have to go full force into the next big project. I've thought about a large center for the performing arts. Not another educational endevour, simply a place of entertainment. Center for Performing Arts at Artshall? Artshall something something. I'll need to think this one through some more.

"We're taking the war to the Sylv'alfar. This is going to be a bloody, messy war that hurts us right down to our souls, but it's the only way to save the people we are sworn to protect. Gather your core unit quickly, as many as you can trust as quickly as you can. We have a lot of work ahead of us. I'm instituting a War Council beginning next week. Houses can send a representative or I will watch as they fall, and those more willing to work for the good of all can rise in their place." - Queen Alarice.

It's a quote from my own research. I'd never thought to put it in my whites before and I can't say what prompted it now. It's not necessarily applicable to anything in particular. But I just thought it was interesting enough to share. Alarice was a remarkable Queen, willing to do what had to be done. And if you weren't willing to work with her, she'd work with someone who was.

I celebrated another birthday this year, among friends and family. We had an excellent time jousting and while I didn't even make it beyond the first round at our little tourney, I was able to win against my sister and Lady Amari later on for fun. Which to be clear, is no small thing. Both are excellent riders, Lady Amari has clearly been spending more time with Baron Norwood.

Relationship Note on Arn

I'm really not satisfied with my last entry on Duke Arn and would like to highlight these moments as well:

- The time he shouted at me when I was at the Gauntlet, 'does this look like an apiary, boy'. I was twenty eight years old.

- The time he insisted I come remove a beehive or he would shove it down my throat.

- The one time he seemed to like an idea I had.

- That time I jokingly asked how he'd like the horse's manes styled. This did not make him laugh the way it made me laugh.

- How our last exchange was downright amicable and good natured and I thought I could definitely manage another twenty or thirty years of him.

I hope you find some peace.

Relationship Note on Arn

I won't waste valuable paper speaking on the virtues and vices of Duke Arn Telmar and how his loss affects the Oathlands. He would have thought it a waste of time.

Instead I'll write on the first time I truly saw him. Which I'm sure he'd also think was a waste of time but not everything is about *you*, Telmar.

When my older sister left to follow her destiny with the Faith of the Pantheon and my younger sister was acting out belligerently (and managed to obtain a surrogate second father out of that behavior, for which I remain mildly jealous), I was being hauled from meeting to meeting and forced to stand around at court. The clothes were miserable, itchy and hot.

It was in some council get together of the High Lord and his ducal powers that I had the opportunity to see Duke Telmar up close. He seemed gnarled and grizzled even then. I witnessed him slam his fist upon the table while making a point, his manner so alien from that of my father.

The late Duke Edmund was poised and collected always, like a statue sometimes. He had almost no reaction to these antics and it's a behavior I've attempted to emulate myself. With Duke Telmar as well as other fiery individuals.

All that's to say that as a young man I found him to be incredibly frightening. And he remained this untouchable ferocious staple of the Oathlands to me up until his death. I'm not sure we'll see another like him.

Note to self: help Norwood build his own paddock and stables so that he can make Lord Eddard work inside of them.

Relationship Note on Kedehern

Word has reached me from the College of Agriculture that Lord Kedehern was involved in a dispute over one of my cows. It *is* a very fine cow, one that I purchased from a little village in the Crownlands. I don't know that it's a nice enough cow to get all worked up over but I'm going to take this as a sign that the school is doing well and recruiting people to work there who are passionate about agriculture.

Relationship Note on Flavien

I had the opportunity this week to promote my cousin, Lord Flavien, to the position of Admiral. Now, admittedly, the Artshall Navy is rather small. But that just means there's plenty of room to grow! And I have the utmost confidence that he won't fail me.

Relationship Note on Jael

I can't believe that we're only a few short weeks out from the fete and a journey back to Artshall. It seems very strange to me that I'll be witnessing Jael's marriage. Not that she'll be married, no, she'll be a fine partner for Prince Tyren. But that she'll be old enough to be married. It seems despite everything over the last several years, I've still kept my sister framed in my mind as 'my little sister'. I guess we've both grown older.

I wrote earlier that I wanted to begin hosting some smaller dinner parties and I'm glad to say that we did so last night. There were some very intriguing topics discussed and Aunt Aida was able to make the party.

Relationship Note on Norwood

I'm deeply saddened to hear of Goodman Jethro Clement's passing. I remember him when I was a child at Artshall, he always seemed to be around. He looked old even then. And to think we were all just recently discussing him.
