Relationship Note on Harlan

Lady Aislin's brother with his own convoluted ties to me. His cousin-in-law being my own former sister-in-law. I am surprised that we have not talked more because he is pleasant company, if a little more distracted by hunts and adventures than I am.

It reminds me often of how different our cultures are, we who mingle in Arx. The Compact is strengthened by our differences, as I hope my relationship to Lord Harlan and the Ashfords will be.

Relationship Note on Dafne

My cousin grows by leaps and bounds under my own eye. The city of Arx has been good for expanding her horizons and showing her more of life. And she matures within it, of which I am glad.

She will need to be more mature than she knows, soon enough, in times like these.

Relationship Note on Vincere

Has any liege had such a helpful vassal as I have? Vincere is polite, respectful. He has a sharp mind and a sharper wit and ability to observe. When I think about the perfect partner, the perfect person to help in any endeavor-- I think of the Marquis Igniseri.

I am only sad to see him leave to reopen his own home in the city.

My vassals, even Valkieri, are excited by the prospect of this adventure into the woods, a thing that may save the Compact, perhaps, from a threat that we know little of. I do not know which of them volunteered, and which of them will be chosen to go, though I do hope at least someone from Gemecitta will be represented, if not more.

But regardless, I know my place and strengths. It isn't that. I will remain in the city and at court, seeing to trade and interests.

Relationship Note on Dawn

The time draws near to the Assembly, where the unrest and unease of our Compact will be laid to rest by the Great Lords in electing a Regent to lead.

So the time has come for me to publicly say, that there can be none to fill this roll except the Lady Dawn. Only she truly knows how to unite as a people, in a way that no other truly could.

My support stands fully behind the Lady Dawn Grayson.

Winter in the city has grown tense, silent. I suppose that is to be expected.

I am almost relieved that Prince Donrai has called for the Assembly. Brave enough to take a step forward for us all.

I can only imagine what changes the next season will bring.

Relationship Note on Leo

When I am in the wrong, I can certainly face such a fact and accept it.

Something that may have looked one way to us on an initial glance may reveal itself to be completely different upon study. A man's character cannot be weighed in passing and determined in the height of emotions.

That is to say, I retract what I have stated about the Duke Fidante before. We are certainly not of a similar nature, but I can appreciate him for his own honor and integrity.

Relationship Note on Dagon

Idealistic, kind, but not without a political bent. I will have to remember that about Prince Dagon Thrax. Regardless, I thought I saw some little interest in my cousin, perhaps? And she in him.

Relationship Note on Donella

The Voice of Thrax is not at all what I imagined. She is well-reasoned and thoughtful, and I appreciate that in any lady. I could imagine her doing just as well in the silks of the Lyceum as in a room filled with the stone crosses of the Saffron Chains.

Relationship Note on Leo

This man's temper may be worse than Lord Valkieri's for less of a reason. I have heard so many good things about Duke Leo Fidante-- His bravery, his honor.

Now I am not surprised I have not heard anything about his intelligence. Child and serf, he may call me, but I name him little better than a bully.

Relationship Note on Fergus

His Highness, Prince Fergus Redrain, is quite the impressive figure. His win at the dueling tournament proves his skill with the blade, even if it still leaves me with the question of why he would tie the peace knot to it.

A man's skill should never go wasted.

I am also relieved that my Lord Valkieri Rubino bested the best. They certainly are two of a kind.

Why am I always surrounded by gruff, tempered men? I do believe I saw the Prince almost smile once, though.

Relationship Note on Dawn

It honors me to be the Lady Dawn's distraction for even an afternoon of tea. Were it that she did not need one, because my heart feels for her and her own circumstances. I have suffered loss, but my loss hasn't carried with it the expectations and uncertainty of a whole realm.

And where I may suffer alone, the Voice of Grayson has no such time when she must keep the world turning.

Relationship Note on Valkieri

It is impossible not to see the things that Valkieri and his brother share; those habits and gestures and minutiae that make them both Rubino. It is hard to sit across a table from him and see it, while the pain in my heart digs a bit deeper with every sigh.

Much easier when he has fallen into a Valkieri mood, when he sneers at me and makes that perfect little scowl that can hide nothing of his anger. It is refreshingly different than Zaccheri's charm.
