Relationship Note on Cristoph

Duke Cristoph insists on a rematch with Lady Jael.

Considering he broke an arm in the last joust, I think that it only fair there be a few modifications to the next joust.

One modification I have already arranged for in the form of some toy stick horses delivered to the bedroom floor of the Laurent Estate. This way Duke Cristoph will have less distance to fall.

I cannot speak to any other man's beard, but I do have a few tips. First, leave the thing alone and trim it occasionally when it gets too long.

Actually, that's it. Leave it alone.

Honor is a concept I hold dear to my heart. It is an ideal, a perfect idea. I have never considered it optional to live honorably and would prefer to lose my life than to surrender my honor.

No, I have nothing to add to the discussion. It is in no way my place to speak, but thank you for asking.

Relationship Note on Eddard

It may surprise some, but I have a rather large family. They live on the edge of Artshall, and are both woodsman, beekeepers, and farmers. When I was elevated I sent them a message and asked any who might be willing to come and join me in Duskshire. There was land to be hand and good work to be done.

Few of them have taken me up on my offer to relocated, tied as they are to their farms and lands. I cannot help but love them more for their dedication.

One of my nephews has found his way to Arx however, to join me.

Welcome to Arx, Lord Eddard Clement.

I am afraid my armor is going to smell like lemon cream for quite some time now.

My scars?

No, I think I will keep that to myself or to those who choose to ask. They are mine alone.

Apparently there is a song now.

Maybe I should spend more time in bars to keep up on this.

There was an informal meeting of several house swords yesterday. I wish to extend my gratitude to Duke Cristoph for allowing me to borrow his gardens for it.  Despite my lack of party graces, it turned out rather well. I was particularly honored to see and hear some of the history behind the physical swords we carry as a mark of our position.  I would be most interested in learning more about my Queensguard and where, perhaps,  he has crossed paths with these others.

Prince Alistair made a particularly pointed statement about how we use our swords. While it goes without anything that out status within our houses does not place us above the law,  it does put us in a particularly interesting place.  We hold the honor of our houses. That should never be taken lightly. If we hold that honor sacred I see no reason why we should fall ill of the law in our duties.

Of particular note, after the guests had left and cookies placed with their proper keepers,  I was able to have a deeper conversation with Lord Ian Kennex. I have long admired his will and grit.  This perception remains unchanged. He is a man I could have by my side in most matters (including the occasional party as speaking of our weapons is much easier than other topics) without hesitation.

There is no honor in accepting a grieving man's challenge. There are allowances that ought to be made for sorrow.

My entrance to the peerage has been smoother than I could ever have hoped. To all of you who have expressed a willingness to help me establish Duskshire, you have my gratitude.

Thank you.

Relationship Note on Adalyn

My only daughter,

Life has the strangest way of twisting and turning. I cannot imagine how your mother would have reacted to what we have become.

I have not always been the most supportive of your choices. If given my preference you never would have picked up a sword. It would have been a relief off of my mind if you had joined a more gentle profession. You have chosen to become a warrior though, and I have chosen to support you as well as I can.

My advice, perhaps, is weighed less these days. With that said however, I do have a hope to share. I hope that you never find joy in the taking of another's life. There is satisfaction to be found in physical prowess. There is pride to be taken in one's skills. There is honor in serving in a fashion which protects and defends the innocent from those who would seek to destroy them.

There is no honor in killing, and to imply even minute enjoyment in the taking of another life is abhorrent. It is my hope that you never feel joy when you consider the taking of another's life.

Your father,
Norwood Clement

All of these puns are, at least, sure to bug Adalyn a bit.

I do also intend to continue to carry honey upon my person. Perhaps within the next two years from Dusksire's own apiaries.

There is much that has gone on the past few weeks, some which is worthy of the whites, and others which is best left to blacks. However, I do feel compelled to speak a few things.

One, I am deeply grateful to Lord Cristoph and all that his family has done for me over my years of service. It was his father's decision to grant my knighthood which has been the turning point of my life. Vivian's death would have been my undoing without the challenges that knighthood set before me. The trust given to me when I was handed Queensguard has shaped my steps even more so. As I step into more challenging roles my gratitude only increases.

To serve House Laurent is the highest honor of my life.

Two, I have been remiss in speaking my gratitude to Dame Alexis Wyrmfang. After an injury sustained assisting House Greenmarch I found myself quite below what I would consider physical peak. I approached Alexis to assist me in regaining my edge. Considering the outcome of the most recent Telmar Gauntlet event, it should go without saying that it worked. My thanks to her, and her most excellent tutelage.

I pass no judgement on others for their actions. That said recent events have caused introspection on myself and the oaths that I have sworn over the course of a life in service.

In short, these oaths define who I am more strongly than any other aspect of myself. It would be as well for my life to end as to break or foreswear the oaths I have sworn. They are as vital as breathing.

I feel almost honor bound to state that honey in no way, shape, nor form should be associated with feces.
