Why do the stars not seem so bright? I worry we have lost something and I don't even know what it might be.

The Festival of Lights has left stars in my eyes.

The Nox'alfar embassy is such a strange place. Amusing but full of oddities.

Ambassador Saccharin was delightful and charming, as always. I am glad I went to hear the questions and answers that were given. And also to chat with some old friends.

It is nice to have friends back in Arx again.

In many cases, it's been too long since a good long discussion over tea. Marquis Fairen, I'm talking about you on that one.

Too long since a good long discussion over a glass of port. (Lord Pasquale!)

Too long since a good long discussion over a cup of coffee. (my brother!)

I suppose there is a sort of trend to be noticed here, yes. I hadn't realized how much I enjoy good long conversations.

I hope the Queen smiled at my costume at the Moonlight Masquerade. I don't know if she did, but I hope so.

It was intended to be entertaining.

At last! I have figured out a mask for the masquerade! I am so looking forward to it.

The verdict is in. The recipe is terrible! It smells like wet dog, tastes bland as paste with the texture of burnt leather and looks like a pile left by a horse.

I am quite certain this inedible mess was someone's idea of a joke.

I have learned so much through research over the years. Many tidbits of knowledge have come my way and continue to do so. So many that if I reread them all at once it's overwhelming.

And yet there are some things we cannot find out with research. This was brought very poignantly home when some research that my brother Ryhalt and I tried simply failed to provide any assistance at all. That's okay - I suppose I should not expect that research will solve everything. And yet I find myself wishing I were a child who might stomp a foot and glare at the pages of the book that turns out to have a cooking recipe instead of anything useful on gardening.

But that reminds me, I should give the recipe to our cook and see if it's at least a good recipe.

Thinking about the Queen of Endings and spending some time in her shrine this week.

I spoke some with Princess Deva, who I'd never really had a one on one conversation with previously. Turns out she knew Aislin Ashford and has stories to share. Who knew?

I definitely did not intend to hit anyone with a pillow when I went to Princess Keely's event at the last minute. Still I had fun and got to meet some people I might not have otherwise come across.

An fun evening out though I'm not sure it qualifies as adulting.

One never quite appreciates something so basic as the ability to breathe clearly until it's missing.

Until it returns.

Dominus Aureth held a well attended event at the shrine of Gild the other day. It was an interesting activity of building up towers in teams and then switching to pull blocks out without knocking the tower down.

The illustration of civilization and what happens when its foundations are not well built or are undercut.

I very much appreciated the opportunity to think about Gild and how some things we take for granted might be more important than we think.

Relationship Note on Orland

I had the opportunity to meet up with Lord Orland Amadeo at Bold Espressions to thank him personally. His quick actions on the battle field very likely saved my life. The coffee and ginger cake were delicious as usual and the company was exceptional.

I do hope we have opportunity to further our acquaintance as I believe we all need all the good friends we can build up to.

I went to Bastion.

No, not as a visitor. I went to the battle, to try to help out. House Ashford brought rangers to help protect the healers and the injured, and I went to offer my support to all those who were fighting. I've never done that before - it was terrifying. I think maybe I helped those brave fighters near me to continue to fight. To get into the fight. To succeed.

Before I got hit by a rampaging - well, I'm not sure what hit me, but it hurt. And I ended up in the medical tent for the rest of things.

Perhaps next time I shall - what? Well, yes, of course i hope there's no next time.

But if there is, I shall be better prepared!

Sitting in the Shrine of the First Choice leads to some interesting discussions with old friends. It's good to catch up once in a while, with those we've not had a chance to talk to.

I find it incredible and hard to believe, the news about Prince Niklas. He was my patron for a time.

I hadn't really known much about him before then, and there's still a lot I never knew. Poor Princess Sabella must be beside herself. I - am saddened. Arx has lost a bright light.

Apparently eagles sulk? Or some such? I would never have guessed. Hopefully he's not too grouchy for my brother's sanity.

I met Princess Keely today, on a totally different note. She seems very sweet and I hope she is able to keep that as she grows into herself.

I have been thinking on adventure and duty somewhat. I suppose it is considerably more fun when the two go together. Meeting new people, seeing new places - here in Arvum even; one need not go too far abroad to find a spot that one has never been before.

Or a spot that looks different from the last time you were there.

Snow covered. Rainy. Flowers in bloom. An unexpected picnic.

I briefly dropped in to the Golden Hart for the Memorial for the Mercier Vintners today. It was a quiet event, but not too somber. I hope they would have liked it.
