On teaching,

I have struggled to learn as much as I can of the tools of Petrichor's trade; of animals and farming, of hunting and archery. For some of these, I had a tutor, for many, I did not. I am a private individual; I am sworn to Saik, but I was not knighted until recently.

I do not charge for my tuition. I suggest people make a donation to the Lodge and the Faith, and I watch who does so, for it tells me who is unlikely to be worth my time in future. This isn't to say I would refuse them; but given a choice, I will focus my attention on those who have given in the past, and not those who choose not to.

I do not have the burdens of an entire Great House, but I do not have the support of one, either.

I've been busy of late. Reviewing those who have expressed interest in the Lodge; some more who do truly venerate Petrichor, which is a blessing; and trying to offer aid to those who have been seeking it. The large dog which fled the city, in particular, has been of interest, and I've been working with those trying to find it.

I've begun, as well, attempting repairs on the Lodge. It will require a fair amount of support; still, I've begun gathering it and putting the gathered money and favors to the repairs.

- Lady Shae gave me one of the pendants from the Oriel woodlands. It's a beautiful thing. The curse is broken, and I'm glad of it; I wear it, for the moment, though I should really give it to those who can appreciate the history far more.

It's been a busy week.
- Met with the Baroness-Regent and trained her two dogs
- Met with Lord Marcos, discussed our homestead back in the Greenlands, and sparred in the ring. Brier won. Out of all of us.
- Lord Karadoc thanked me for speaking well of his recompense to the Baroness-Regent
- Many discussions on the Lodge.

I suppose I should, as a Knight, find someone to tutor more closely. Sadly, Brier takes up most of my time in that regard.

I had - another - discussion on nobility recently, while I rested from a quick evening meal and visited the temple to offer my thanks for the day.

I realise I am a commoner, and this will not change. That is good, because I'm not suited to be a noble, and to lead. I know this, the same way I know Brier is my horse and Aletta my falcon, and Baron Estaban my lord.

I do not, though, understand why so many nobles ask me not to use their titles. It still baffles me.

I have been working in Setarco, to prepare the beaches against incoming troops. After the naval battle, the grand Duchess and the high Lord Victus Thrax both seem to think it will be more necessary than before the battle at sea, which we won.

That bothers me. Still, back to work.

My talents have in demand this week again. Teaching how to shape the land and live with it and off it; I'm proud to be able to offer aid to nobility and commoner both, to show how Petrichor's work is relevant no matter the path of life you follow.

My thanks, to Lady Skye, Lady Emily, and Sir Jeffeth for allowing me to aid you in these ways.

In the event of my death in the war between the Lyceum and the invading fleet, I ask the following
- Hana Grayhope shall be the final decider of the destination of those few things I own.
- the Crimson Seed, my bow, was a gift from the Faith and the Nox'alfar. It shall be returned to Legate Orazio Saik, to find a new owner.
- my other armor and weapons belong, should the leader of House Saik permit, to the Lodge of Petrichor, to whoever follows me as the Horn.
- I would ask Hana take my wardrobe, to be disposed of as she see fit
- the gold-inlaid Horn will likewise be returned to the Lodge
- Should she survive me, Brier, my horse, is at the disposal of the head of House Saik
- Aletta, if permitted, shall be allowed freedom and to remain at the Lodge, as part of the colony of hawks like her I am trying to foster there.

Signed
Dame Leola Allenatore

From four paths, and four trails, they came,
In light
In shade
In darkness
And where the light never reaches
One we warred against
Two we forgot
One we warred with
Four circles. One circle.
Four paths, together
From the beginning, to the end.

The Lodge is busy, now Spring is here. I should be preparing our hunts, but things are taking my attention. I'm getting ready to ride south with my House.

I hope it is here when I return.

To steal a phrase, I prepare to go to the city of silk, Setarco.

And promptly to get up to my elbows in mud. The more things change ...

I'm getting frustrated with Brier. She's smart and quick, but she's just not learning anymore, getting any better. I genuinely don't know what to do - I'm devoting my time to her, ensuring her feed and training is the best I know how to give her. She's in good condition, but she can still improve, and I'm dratted if I know how to do it.

Now you know how I feel. Every day of my life.

Relationship Note on Killian

Two gone.
Lady Juliet, Lord Killian.

I'm looking at the path I've chosen, and wondered if now is the best time to walk it. To deliberately court danger. But then, I realise that if I'm to honor a man I fought with, who stood against eternity with me, I should let his death inspire me to do more than I otherwise might.

What happens, is what I choose.

Relationship Note on Eleanor

I met Eleanor recently.

She's done so well for herself. One of the Hundred, the King's Own - father had written to say she'd become a Knight, but I had no idea just how far she'd come. I was so pleased for her - and I'm thrilled that we'll be sailing together and working together on our projects

Relationship Note on Costas

The Velenosian meeting was fine, and Baron Saik wishes to speak with me at both our convenience - we're both always busy, but still, when we can.

It was fine to see the Sword, Costas, react to events in a careful and precise manner to speak with the Grand Duchess at such a moment. For all we've so little in common in our work, we've much the same attitude to it - we do the job that's in front of us.

I was pleased to see the results of the work we had put into Kennex pay off. I'm sure the Legate is thoroughly embarrassed - but it's important, nonetheless, to have our figureheads and inspirations. He'll be that for the folk of Kennex for some time.

I quite understand that thralldom as a concept is something that sits poorly with the Faith, and I support this stance.
I understand that Kennex is within their rights to declare their thralls free.
Plan, then act.
That's all I want.
Now I need to do just that.

Fine.
Whatever.
Silks, I tell you.
