Stopped by my dear elder sister's studio for a quick visit today while I was nearby on an errand, it's been far too long since we had a chat.

Of course, I almost immediately received a gentle interrogation about how my love life was doing. Ahh, family!

(Caprice, if you're reading, I don't kiss and journal either.)

I hadn't realized asking "What about the King?" at the Commoners' Court would lead me on the path I'm currently starting down. It seemed a simple enough question, but as with many things I suppose a simple question does not necessarily lead to a simple answer. But thankfully I have friends who have been very helpful in helping me begin to find the answers to questions I hadn't even considered before.

Is it really so strange that I can't swim? I used to be a city guard, not a sailor!

Although it seems I should try to get more exercise while not wearing a full set of steel armor for a change anyway. I happened to try a sparring match without armor against the Marquessa of House Wyrmguard the other day and it was almost an entirely new experience. I felt so quick and light, it was a much different way to approach a combat tactically and mentally than I would normally do. Quicker thinking, acting more reactively instead of trying to set up moves several swings and steps in advance. Perhaps I should finally just learn to swim properly after all and continue to broaden my horizons in that kind of regard, then.

I usually prefer to record my more positive feelings in this journal, but I cannot help but report that we have had an almost unrelentingly disastrous time of it here in the capital lately. A High Lord assassinated, a Grand Duchess missing, some sort of disturbance in the Redrain ward, riots in the Boroughs...

To make matters worse for the Lyceum, it seems almost too much to hope that Her Grace will be found before her wedding if she has not been found by now. I fervently hope I will be proven wrong, however.

Relationship Note on Angelo

I daresay it has turned out to be quite the fortunate coincidence that I happened to come across Lord Angelo so near to his arrival in Arx. While I am sure a man of his talent and connections would have soon found his way through the doors of the Whisper House without my assistance, he has quickly become one of our most engaged and engaging patrons, and to be deprived of his presence about for even a matter of weeks would have been a terribly missed opportunity.

Rather been a busy week for me with so many trips to escort the Whispers about town. It's good to see the members of the House so busy, with many social events and Calandra's festival in particular to organize! In times as these, I feel it is the duty of the Whispers to bring some light and energy to offset the darkness and gloom and to the last woman and man they have all been doing the job superlatively.

It is difficult to properly summarize the great history of the Whisper House reaching all the way back to the Elfbane Queen's reign in a concise manner, of course. But the Whispers themselves remain timelessly constant.

A Whisper is, above all else, a practitioner of the art of discretion. An inspirational person, versed in arts and culture, always seeking new ideas and experiences. Our generous patrons find the Whispers not just companions to social functions, but muses, confidants, teachers, and more. The Whisper House is a place whose ideals lie in opening the doors to new possibilities, to find personal growth and success, achievement and satisfaction.

A Whisper is a facilitator, not a servant. A patronage is a dialogue, not a contract. The Whisper will try to be what he or she feels the guests need them to be. It's only natural that, comfortable with authority as they generally are, not all our guests are always fully receptive to where they are being guided. But our guests lack not for those who must follow their orders, and so it would be foolish for the House to provide something in such ready supply to them. A path without some challenges only leads to stagnation, not growth.

Exclusive arrangements are not unheard of. They do require a significant investment of resources, as well. But it is also true that over the House's distinguished history, the best and brightest Whispers were also the ones least likely to agree to such terms. The brighter the light, the more it wishes the whole world to bask in its Radiance.

Did it again.

Always have to go and get involved, whether or not I need to. Whether or not I really even ought to. I don't even work there! Just that little voice that says, nobody needs to get hurt. Nothing needs to get broken. You can fix this.

And sure, nothing got broken, nobody got hurt, and I'd like to think the Count ended up having a better evening in the end anyway, but it's still infuriating how I can't control it.

Been going down there a lot lately since it's nice to have a place where I don't have to be "on" all the time, but maybe I need a break. Maybe I'll start dropping by the Spirits more, it's a nice invigorating hike across Arx and the Redrains can cook up some damned good venison besides.

There's nothing like somebody doing a backflip away from your weapon swing to make you feel like a big, hulking, lumbering oaf. I swear to the gods and all who read this journal that I have never, not once, ever lumbered anywhere. I am also very convinced I am not an oaf, although an oaf probably wouldn't know if they were an oaf, would they? But an oaf also wouldn't know THAT, so I that is why I am confident.

Perhaps I need to start doing more runs and jumping jacks to get my exercise.

I have been rather pleased to see Her Highness Sylvie taking up the distinguished mantle of Duchess-Whisper as some of the greatest Lyceans of old have done before. I am confident that she has every capability necessary to make her mark among the most accomplished of the people of the Hundred Cities.

Admittedly, this is somewhat tempered by the apparently falling chances the upcoming social calendar will not be preempted by the onset of general destruction and upheaval, but I prefer to take an optimistic view of things where I can.

Relationship Note on Agnarr

I happened to encounter the Redrain housecarl in a training match. He's not very talkative but seems like a good straightforward fellow. It's a little fuzzy when I try to recall more detail, however. I should endeavor to not intercept that padded greatsword of his with my helmet in any future sparring engagements.

Relationship Note on Valencia

I've seen Princess Valencia out and about on a few of my dining excursions now, it seems she likes to try out the various meals served around the capital nearly as much as I do. As we share a common city of origin of course I'm quite happy to spend the time in her company, although I'm sure that it's not at all necessary as she's doing quite well with the Redrains by all measures that I can see.

Lately I have been working to correct some... excesses with respect to finding new and interesting places and things for dinner that have had a noticeable effect on my finances. Despite the jump in minor aches and pains carried on through the day, more spare time spent at the training centre and a simpler diet are doing very well towards meeting my goals in that respect. It's also not a bad place to meet new people; I've begun to recognize some of the more usual faces around.

Relationship Note on Acacia

I might not have met Acacia if it wasn't for that stone that conveniently came flying when she ducked. I didn't, and we had a decent laugh over it. Since then, we've sent messengers back and forth enough to know that even if she might be up to something, she can be interesting company and I wouldn't mind running into her again, down in the Lower Boroughs.
