It will be nice to see this winter come to its end. Business at the shop has been awful for worryingly long. The whirlpool may be gone, but its effects are not. And jewelry is not a necessity, I admit.
The family shop aside, one thing that happens each winter happened again - I've had time to play. With wire and stones, of course. I finally finished something that has been sitting on the workbench as a sketch for too, too long. It feels good to make something so intricate. I've been working with glass beads for such a long time that I'd nearly forgotten how it felt to work in stones.

It has been a tough few days ending in my decision to close the family shop for a day. Maybe more. At least the tedious work of moving things around and tucking things away to make space for the distribution efforts in the Lowers gives me a way to feel productive while thinking things through.
Change is hard, but needful. Fel suggested I look for someone to train to take over the shop. Within a day or so, Father Hamish spoke about life and opportunity. If I lessen my time at the shop, I know some of what I am making room for. It's worth letting go of my routines, so worth it.

It has been a productive few days. Business in the shop has slowed with the coming of the cold weather, so I have had the room to be more creative. Maybe I feel pushed to do more, now that the Second First has opened a similar shop so nearby. Curiosity drew me to visit his shop a few times. He has found a way to get the word out about his offerings and has managed to draw some unusual customers to the Lowers. Am I feeling a bit competitive?
