Relationship Note on Cristoph

When I made my decision to leave behind a ducal coronet and all that went with it and instead say my vows as Godsworn, I forced a separation between myself and my family. I took deeper to heart my oaths than they may have wished, or even than any may have intended for such words to take. I separated myself from the Laurents so that I could uphold the ideals I had sworn myself to and ensure that none ever accused me of favoring them unfairly, or they of benefiting unfairly from my placement. No, I was only a simple godsworn then and not an Archlector, but I knew one day I would be.

Today, after too long, I went to visit my brother. I see him so seldom now and perhaps not said more than a handful of words to him since our father's death. He's grown into a fine man and I have no regrets in leaving the Duchy in his capable hands. He's become more than a lanky youth, more than a soldier. I wish him and his wife well and know that they have things well in hand.

Father would be proud.

Relationship Note on Alexis

It seems I am attending Alexis at a ball. We are starting to look more and more like a couple. It isn't a bad look, though I've always considered myself a servant of Gloria, then the Faith, and a lover... Well, not at all really. I've kept precious few if truth be told though it does seem to be the case that if I were to try it would not be difficult to rectify this oversight.

Really, people bemuse me at best. I prefer to turn my energy toward constructive things. Now what on earth while I wear...? It's white tie formal, white and gold. What is more formal than my robes? This might be a terrible idea...

Relationship Note on Alexis

I trust Alexis enough to have her make my personal armour. A greater compliment from me it is hard to find.

Relationship Note on Ferrando

I met Ferrando today. There's a fellow I would not have expected to see in an Armourer's Shop. Indeed, he was just there to chat with Dame Alexis. To what purpose, I've no idea whatsoever save that he was apparently 'networking'. Perhaps we will run into one another in a more appropriate climate soon. Perhaps somewhere warm.

Relationship Note on Juliet

They say a candle that burns twice as bright burns twice as fast. And you burned so very brightly.

If asked for the record of my life they would say I never had a daughter...

And now we mourn my most beloved cousin. Juliet. She called me Aunt and I held her when she was a babe. I held her a week before she was taken from us, in fact. I will see her memory honoured in any way I can. It's impossible to imagine doing less, even if I cannot do more.

Relationship Note on Gailin

Gailin is young and enthusiastic. I hope he manages to find his way. I am hesitant to see him dedicate his life to the Faith so easily but perhaps it will work for him. he wants to solve his crisis of Faith but making a grandiose show of it. I understand the urge all too well, but...

If Gailin does take vows he will make a fine Disciple of Gloria.

Relationship Note on Juliet

My very favourite 'Niece' (actually, a second cousin, but she has always called me Aunt). We've exchanged letters and she promises to sneak into my chambers one of these nights with a bottle of wine.

I don't usually drink because I do foolish things. I dislike it when I relax so far. But with Juliet? Darling niece, I await your visit.

Relationship Note on Gisele

Kind. Gentle. Quiet and exceedingly helpful. The Faith needs more people like Gisele.

Relationship Note on Niamh

Meeting with Niamh was quite intriguing. She showed me her Hall and told me about her hopes for her Knights, few though they are. I am fascinated with what she intends to accomplish and I hope that I can assist her from my place with the Faith. If all the Knights of the Gold Order of the Dragon are as earnest and skilled they deserve my support.

I look forward to see what comes of it.

What is the point of stars? I found myself asking this as I sat with a tankard of ale in hand feeling decidedly uncomfortable despite the presence of wonderful, friendly staff and plentiful food and drink in the hidden courtyard at the center of the Golden Hart. I chose that place because I like the flowers and the sky. What I ended up doing is rambling like a lunatic.

They stand a silent vigil over all of us. Some say they foretell events or commemorate great people or great acts. Others suggest that they speak for the Gods were we only to be bold enough to listen. The stars... They're a mystery. One I wish that I, as Archlector, could say I had soundly unraveled but instead I find myself positing yet more theories. Musings, really.

The stars were there during the battle, when great tides of men and monsters broke against the defenders of Arx. Truly I do not know which were worse- the men or the monsters. At least inhuman things do not look at you with human eyes when you cut them down. Nor can they scream with human voices as they die. They may sound the same but it isn't. After all this death and pain in the end I simply end up staring at the stars. Watching them twinkle overhead. Wondering if they had a message for us which could have prevented all this bloodshed.

Still I fight, and will continue fighting, in the name of Gloria and the Faith. In the name of the people who died during the siege. To forget the pain I saw in the eyes of those who were slain. War doesn't feel honourable. It isn't noble or wise. Defending your home, your people, however, is the highest honour. That is how I honoured the Goddess on that day.

Also, I need to get that damnable creaking dealt with. The plates that cover my left knee must be bent near the joint. If I hear that damnable screeching again I might decide to go into battle naked. Oh, the look on Aldwin's face if I did...

Consider a sword. A tool, a weapon and a piece of art. A cornerstone of our civilization, for with it we defend our borders, our honor and our loved ones. A thing in which all aspects of the gods may be seen, for it is born out of Creation, forged from Art and the defender of Concepts.

Iron is taken from the earth, this alone a gift from Petrichor, for it is he who gave mankind dominion over the hills and mountains. But only in the fires of Lagoma does iron bend, as is befitting the godess of change, mixed with the coal taken from Petrichor's trees, iron becomes steel before being quenched in the waters of Mangata to cool its rage and harden its core.

A complicated art, such knowledge would not be avaliable to us were it not for the blessings of Vellichor which allows us to hear from the minds of hundreds, if not thousands and allows the creation of such wonderous things. How else can man know how to work iron into steel, how to hone the edge or learn the ancient secrets of diamondplate and alaricite. But while it is Vellichor that informs the craftsman to such wonders, it is Jayus who inspires. As much as there can be no warrior without spirit, there can be no art without inspiration. It was under the guidance of him that man first struck hammer to anvil, and first sang songs of glory.

It is Gloria who taught us to defend our honor, as much as we defend our borders and loved ones. It is she who showed man how to wield the weapon with honor, so that we would not lose ourselves to the temptation of power inherent in such things. In much the same way, the Sentinel expects us to defend law and order, and justice must sometimes be brought at the end of a sword. And as Gird blesses us with wealth, so must we protect it from the greedy so that it may be spent freely and in accorance to the divine.

Even the Thirteenth can be seen through the sword, for much as he shows us dark reflection so do we see a dark reflection of ourselves. What we would be without the guidance of the gods whenever we clash steel with those that wield such power without honor, without sacred cause.

Remember this as a sacred duty, your weapons should be symbols of protection and divine cause. Only those whom have fallen from the gods should fear the bite of your steel if it is wielded with the dignity and honor for which it is intended.

What is victory won without honor?

Today a woman stalwart spirit came to the shrine of Gloria seeking prayer and guidance. She had taken part in battle, with the godess' name on her lips and noble purpose at heart. She had fought against the evils that come from beyond the Mirror and came out victorious, a deed which glory she puts to the guidance of Gloria, but even in victory she was troubled. For this victory was earned without honor, her comrades took to ill deeds that banished the souls of others from ever making the journey to The Shining Lands.

A poignant note, seeing the discussion of the souls lost to the Teind earlier today.

This woman took up arms against her comrades, to stop them from such vile deeds. A difficult choice, on some levels it mirrors the troubles the realm faces itself in these trying times. To battle the evils of the Abyss and beyond, do we forsake honor? Do we turn out gaze from Gloria and the Sentinel?

We must not.

Let this lady of birth unknown stand as an example to all. Even as you are pure of heart, look to your fellows and judge their mettle. Do not allow their wickedness and fear turn you from the righteous path, stand your ground and show them the way through our time of strife. We come upon the hour of need, and men and women with the will and purpose to remain true to the gods must rise to lead and stand defiant in the face of darkness.

What is victory won without honor?

It is no victory at all.

Souls of Arvum

We find ourselves in times of war, and it is in such times, even more so than in times of peace that we must not lose sight of Gloria.

The very soldiers meant to protect this city revealed as treacherous, having turned their back on honor and the gods. Many of these souls I knew myself, not a strange thing, many souls of war turn their faith to Gloria for guidance in their duties.

And so it is that all souls of war should steel their spirit, we do not wage war with blades alone. Harden your hearts for what is to come and pray to Gloria that you will not fail her and the realm as these traitors whose souls will forever be lost in the Abyss.

Turn your eyes to the Shrine of Gloria, try your steel against The Holy Knights of the Temple and they shall test your mettle, in arm and heart both.
