Relationship Note on Harald

You have my eternal respect for understanding the decisions that had to be made in that moment. And my deepest regret for assuming the worst with that same decision. I was grateful to any God listening to see you rise from the rubble like a man possessed with an unstoppable force of will to keep fighting.

Relationship Note on Harald

The Duke has a strength and conviction that is to be admired. He has displayed wisdom many would have to be going grey to possess.

Relationship Note on Harald

A very large man, in stature and in his dealings. I look forward to making a mighty bow for him if he so wishes me as its forger. And the new edge on his ax will help him to kill many more men for their transgressions against Thraxian interests.

Relationship Note on Harald

Not the most complimentary of people. To most he is probably not even very nice. For me he is safe, so to speak. He is very traditional in the ways of those that are under the fealty of the Thrax family. I wonder if he is this way with all people. I find a certain comfort in the familiarity of his mannerism. Well, not in that he is familiar with me but his mannerism is. Not so weird.

Relationship Note on Harald

Lord Harald Grimhall - My relationship with this Mourning Isles-born commander is a strange one on all counts. We were first introduced when he was assigned to me as the Liaison of the Thraxian fealty for the Ministry of Defense. Having never met the man before I was eager to see who exactly Prince Victus and Princess Donella thought was capable of the weighty task. As it turns out, they chose the exact right man for the job. He is hardened by a life of war and skilled with a tactical mind. All aspects of Lord Harald that I find highly valuable in this position.

The strange part comes in through the fact that Lord Harald is by all rights a very Thraxian Traditionalist, socially speaking. He holds firm to his belief in thralldom and seeks to challenge the changes that are upon us. I though, being a woman in command of him, that he and I would have more problems seeing eye to eye. When in fact, more often than not, we look at a situation and see it the same way. I value his firm belief in the might of mankind and the steel we wield. Though the rules of the game are constantly changing around us, I am glad to have this rock of a man by my side in defending the Compact.

Relationship Note on Harald

Lord Harald Grimhall. Grumpy hard as weathered leather but without the brittle break it can give. He calls me Death Guard. We're both old veterans of countless wars, understanding the duty, privilege, and sacrifice that means. Very good at what he does, on the salt and shore. Blood in the water, blood on the mud - and may none of it be ours.

We should go drinking sometime; I think we can share some great stories...

Relationship Note on Harald

From the forward camp, winter,

Lord Grimhall is a traditionalist in every way I am not. He is a Thraxian, without doubt, and I suspect with little compromise; why should the sea compromise with the land, when it can just as easily rage against it?

But I want him to know, and Margot too perhaps, that should I die, it will not be from a predisposition to heroics or glory or even chivalry.

Should I die, it will be from a selfish thirst for recompense for the last fifteen years, and a distrust of those who say they will seek it for me. But, we are only as good of men as we pretend to be.

Would I were a better actor.

Relationship Note on Harald

I think I've come to an understanding with my Uncle Harald. He has crazy ideas, truly, but at least he's aiming high and is willing to listen to my requests. It's possible that it's too high, and I find myself terrified at the future. But at the same time, I'm coming around. It's not the worst outcome, certainly. He's also helped me so much with my work, that I'm leaps and bounds ahead. Which gives me more free time for other avenues.

Relationship Note on Harald

This one was not at all what I expected; that he enjoys his family's respect and reverence is clear. That he is surrounded by strong women who see the world differently than he does and he's frustrated by all the ways they are pulling away from his vision is also clear. But he wants what is best for them and he understands the truth of the world; that it laughs at our plans and mocks our wishes. Things are as they are. He sees it.

Relationship Note on Harald

Family is the most important of all, it's been so long since I've had family around me, I'd forgotten how wonderful it could be.

I hope I do not disappoint my Uncle, and that I can contribute to bettering our family. Perhaps making up for some of the damage done by my father.

Relationship Note on Harald

Pikes and spears have and will likely always be staples to any infantry or naval military engagement. If one has the strength for it, I would say that the bec de corbin style of polearm is likely to be one of the most versatile weapons you'll come across. The main drawback is that it's heavy and a hard weapon to master. Is the curved beak not one of the best developments in weapons to date? If there's one sure way to open up a suit of metal armor at the seam...

Relationship Note on Harald

Lord Harald is correct in much of his assessment about weaponry. A veteran of the waves, there are few better that could provide a more comprehensive and realistic take on combat.

Where we might disagree is the romance aspect of weapons. There is an art to efficacy just as surely as their is to aesthetic choices. The song of a perfectly-sharpened blade cutting through air, a well-timed and placed strike...there is an artistry to all of it. I pray to Jayus to guide my hand and guard my dreams and truly feel there is artistry in ingenuity.

When it comes to tactics though, I would never doubt this man's words.

Relationship Note on Harald

Pleasant company for a Grimhall, pleasant enough company for a Thrax man in general really.

I can hardly remember the last time I had a civil drink with one of our Reavers with no profanity, or uncalled for oogling. I really do hope that Abbas and Victus take a note from Lord Harald....

A Tyde recommending a Grimhall for anything, who would have ever thought? Perhaps next fish will walk ashore and deer begin to fly.

Relationship Note on Harald

(Footnote attached to a diary entry)

Uncle Harald was one of the few adults that felt truly on my side when I was younger. I could always count on him to give me wise advice, and he even let me get away with a few minor mishaps. It's a blessing to have his counsel in Arx, not least of which because he also won't replace me as Voice.
