Out of all the weeks since making berth in Arx, this was, quite certainly, the worst one.
But it would have been even moreso without the swift and accurate intervention of Ladies Azova Darkwater and Medeia Eswynd, and Lords Haakon Eswynd and Dycard Blackshore.

I always thought of information gathering to be comprised of two processes - the act of collecting it, and the act of verifying it. The former always starts with a question, while the latter invariably starts with the same question asked of different sources, in different times and perhaps different locations as well.
Ultimately, getting to the truth turns on how meticulous you are with the above, and your own skill in analyzing what is before you. I think it is important to realize and accept that there will be occasions in which your conclusions will be proven wrong, despite the utmost care in which you perform your due diligence. That is an inexorable reality of the work, where the wounds of its failures can only be dressed by the knowledge that you did not conclude what you did lightly, and were based on the facts as you knew them. You can only work with and act upon what you have, after all, but it is imperative to be decisive or the effort would have been for nothing.

I have returned to Arx refreshed and in relatively good spirits after spending a few days in Nilanza - a Lycene territory that I have never been before but always wanted to visit. My lord Romulius Blackshore, in his unfailing generosity and devoted reluctance at the prospect of letting me anywhere on the ocean without his expertise and protection, managed to bring me and my retinue safely to its shores.
The Malespero wedding was a lovely affair, and my visit to the march went beyond my expectations, in no small part due to the hospitality and charm of its lady, Lianne Malespero, and Guildmaster Apollo Whisper. It is very rare that I attend social engagements to begin with, much less ones that are not situated around the capital's proper, but as uncharacteristic as it sounds, I was looking forward to this one.
Despite my short stay, I have grown fond of Nilanza, and I hope to visit it often in the months to come.

The Pathfinder's legal conundrum is an interesting one and laden with some very intricate difficulties that touch upon some incredibly thorny history. I had the pleasure and privilege of sitting down with her and her sister today discussing it.
But as always, the more difficult the problem is, the more engaged I am.
The role of legal counsel is to always do four things - to identify the problems of a case, to ascertain the rule of law that is most relevant to it, analyze the facts in light of the law, and then tally the viable options based on that analysis.
Like any other matter that deals with the law, however, this one requires some research. I would not be comfortable making any presentations or demonstrations of the sort, otherwise.

I had an idle thought, in my first few weeks in Arx, that it is surely a coincidence that I keep stumbling onto avenues I need. They often manifest in the little things; a small innocuous detail, insignificant within the frame of a small window of time but something I noticed because I tend to notice most nuances in my day.
But it happens so often these days that I cannot help but wonder whether someone or something is pushing me towards a certain place, or a specific end, moving me like a piece on the board. Such a thing occurred again the other day - random, unexpected, but would have been extremely confusing to me if a friend had not invited me to a place on a rare night out, a week prior. Both separate incidents, occurring in two different times, the motivations behind them absolutely unconnected to one another, except for this little thing I noticed in the first event that is more significant in the second.
It is not the first time. It occurs to me quite frequently, since I arrived.
But it happens so often these days that I cannot help but wonder whether someone or something is pushing me towards a certain place, or a specific end, moving me like a piece on the board. I am about to close the case on my cousin's assassination, the former Marquis Malespero. In doing so, I hope to bring some degree of closure to his widow and the rest of my family.

This week has been full of illumination and breakthroughs, and I am certain that none of them would have been possible at all had you not blessed me with not just the tenacity required to seek answers to know, but also the mind and demeanor to ask the right questions so as to better understand a person or circumstance, and the wisdom and will to differentiate between the two and recognize their equivalent importance.
Is that why I now have two would-be proteges, both of whom have sought me out specifically without any solicitation on my part? Is it your will that I try my hand at educating, guiding and sponsoring, instead of being the perennial student I have always been?
Both are incredibly remarkable women, the kind that I could learn from instead of the other way around. I do not know what I could possibly do for them when I am so untried, still.
I am worried that I will somehow fail them.
But if this is your will, then let it be done.

It seems that opportunists are at it again.
The Isles are once again in turmoil given what has happened in Astarrea and House Melaeris, but it seems that the required verification has need of me to face turbulent waters.

I was never a person predisposed to frivolity or extravagance. When I made a decision a few weeks ago to live a dream that could never be mine in a vain attempt to shorten the inevitable list of unfulfilled aspirations I am guaranteed to hold the moment I return to the Wheel, some part of me wondered if I became precisely that. Frivolous. Extravagant.
But I think it is worth it when I wake every morning without regret.
I hope that I have gleaned enough strength from it once I face the storms in these next moments that follow, where I must once again put my mental and physical fortitude to the test.

Compared to my past excursions back to the Mourning Isles since my arrival to Arx, my last visit was more action-packed than most.
I left before witnessing the next slew of crucifixions, however. While it is normally anathema for me to depart before a sentence is carried to its full and final conclusion, I am afraid that there was no time to linger.
May the Sentinel's justice continue to prevail.
