Why is it that when I am presented with a choice in my personal life, I unfailingly swerve from what is so very obviously the better one, and choose the other instead. When a person of my acquaintance laid just such a choice before me today that should have seen me overjoyed and agreeable, I immediately denied that pleasure to myself and put forth instead a well-structured argument as to why that could not be.

Regret. Surely it must be the saddest word in Arvum.

Well, scholar, I'm certainly being dragged out of my comfort zone the last few days. Not that that's a terrible thing, it does a person good to test their limits, and mine are apparently greater than I imagined. I would even go so far as to say that I quite enjoyed wearing a gown that was so obviously inspired by the far more daring fashions of the Lycene.

I wonder in what new ways I'll be tested in the coming weeks.

Note to self: Remember to make time for people in the future. Infuriating and as difficult as they might be, it's perhaps worth the effort.

I was given a very beautiful potted fern the other day. I've decided that the only place for it is in the grand hall of Byrne Manor, though it is so very large and flourishing that I think I shall need to commission a pedestal to stand it upon so it's leaves can freely drape. For now I have had the helmet removed from one of the ornamental suits of armours that are on display there, and have had it balanced atop the remainder. It looks quite spectacular and resembles a great green-haired warrior.

It is surprising how much a fresh coat of paint and someone with an eye for detail can transform a room from being tired and worn and something that depresses the soul, to something delightful.

Thank goodness for competent decorators.

The city treats me well and the transition here from Cedar Vale couldn't have gone better.

My diary is quickly filling with business and social invitations, and I foresee that I'm going to be terribly busy in the upcoming months. Thank goodness for Master Asterion, our Master of Coin, who has taken me under his wing. I couldn't wish for a better guiding hand than his.

After what seemed like months of preparation, I have finally arrived in Arx. It is with eagerness and anticipation that I prepare myself to explore a city that is so very different to The Cinder back in Cedar Vale, though one thing I've realised I didn't consider is how much warmer the weather is here, and set to get warmer still as we move from Spring into Summer. Fortunately I was given the name of a Messere Artiglio and I'm to meet with her for a consultation on my wardrobe, which is currently all brocades and velvets.

I've also uncovered something of a curiousity, and that is that every man of the Lycene whom I've met since arriving in the city has been the most incredible of flirts. I knew of their reputation of course, but to see it in action is a spectacle indeed.
