I don't often document my dreams, but my cousin does. I had one that I thought was significant, so I'll write it down.
I had a dream of blood. Of warfare, of the struggle of blade against blade. Knee-deep in gore, and sinking ever deeper, with no end in sight. I dreamt that I had to keep wading forward, gleeful and with my teeth bared and swords in hand, succeeding against impossible odds, never getting to rest.

I like the way you think! When I was younger, there was a point where I found myself taken captive. I befriended my captives, and wound up working with them. I told them, all the while, that when I was free, I'd come back with an army and have them all tortured to death. They didn't believe me. I escaped, obviously, and then brought the Few back and we killed them all. They died badly. Vengeance is a righteous thing, and should never be spared the vanquished. Otherwise, no one else knows not to fuck with you.

It gets easier. From personal experience, killing everyone involved makes it go down that much smoother. Their friends, their family, and everyone they know is just sugar on top. I can even show you the most agonizing way to kill them, for the right price.

I imagine Lys's bones will wind up laying next to mine. There's a very nice little spot down in Afflua - the marshes part to reveal a little grove. It's quite lovely, really, except for all the upturned graves from before I took it. Quite idyllic!

I could outflank the best, but I dislike the minute bits of war. Now I'm just glad that I'm in a position to kill monsters in a way that will matter. As it happens, if you want to kill monsters and make a difference, do let me know. You'lll probably die, but if you don't, I'll make you exceedingly rich. Shard's right! Anyone that says a thing is nonlethal is really just not trying hard enough. I've seen Shard kill people with a loooot of weird things. One of my lads once killed a man with a pie!
Don't disparage the lethality of an object, instead say that people just need to really believe in what they're doing to kill someone with, say, a freshly removed liver. It's true, I suppose, that I put a monetary value on life. How much I spend on training them, but I suppose it also bears writing out the people that go beyond a monetary value. The people that I consider mine, the one wherein harming them I will get actually mad, and cut a person into pieces. Some people get weird about these things, so here goes:
Shard, obviously. My second, and the only person I trust in the world to lead the Few.

Enyo, another adventurer I've known for years.
Finally, but not last, Mae. The reorganization of the Mummers, and our work in the Burroughs. I both want to kill her, and I love her. Which takes precedent depends on the day.

This is why despite gleefully charging Abyssal monsters, other monsters, and on two separate occasions a Herald, I treat boats with trepidation. If I have my feet below me, I can at least fight. Dying without being able to fight is the worst thing I can think of.

I am honestly confused as to why Shard had to explain why I am what I am. I enjoy -everything-. Life is short, it's messy, and our stories are often cut entirely too short. Why wouldn't I enjoy every moment of it?
She is, as it happens, also right in that everyone under my protection is sacrosanct. I have a shelf full of heads that speaks to what happens to people that fuck with my people. Lys sometimes throws her voice to make them talk. I prefer it when they're quiet.
