I tried my hand at besting Prince Fergus in a spar today. I may have gotten better at hurting him and making him sweat like a pig, but he still bested me with ease. I need to get better.

I dislike his fondness for clobbering me in the head. I had a headache all morning!

Lady Dawn sent me a message thanking me for my presence at the Grayson gathering the other night, and for offering her my advice. She gifted me an elegant oathlands sword - one of similar design to the one Prince Fergus wielded against me. I'm not quite sure what to do with it yet! But if I should ever be in need of two, I will have little to worry about.

I'm not sure what lies ahead, but I will do what I can to help her through it.

Well that was enlightening. The steak was splendid, too.

When I left the manor I was accosted by a messenger with another large order for my shop. This one seems like it will be fun, though, much like Prince Edain's beloved table. Enough details to give me a direction on where to go, but enough leeway to express my own creativity. Challenge accepted.

The Grand Melee was something to behold. A massive fight, the blades of skilled warriors clashing, and the man without anything donned to protect himself ultimately coming out on top as the two others standing knock each other out of the contest.

I really don't have any regrets on how it turned out, even if I came out a loser.

Before the melee was underway, I advised Prince Laric to leave Prince Edain and Duke Leo alone for now, given they were shorthanded one man like we were. This unspoken plan had to be discarded when they turned their focus on us. I suspect this may have been the point where things went awry with us; Laric was quickly downed and I had already did a fair amount of damage to them both when they finally turned their attention to the Lycene team and I followed suit.

Then Lady Deva got in the way.

To be fair, if she wanted to win, she needed to get me out too. Completely understandable. That glaive has some impressive reach and she managed to bloody me quite a bit before I had to face off against Duke Niccolo and Prince Luca. I won the duel, but she sealed my fate, I believe.

Then again, Duke Niccolo and Prince Luca hit very hard as well, I soon discovered.

A good fight, indeed. Now back to work!

Relationship Note on Laric

Yet another Inquisitor of House Grayson I have managed to befriend! I had approached him with an offer to join me in the Grand Melee to represent House Grayson, who was hosting the event. I tested his mettle, and while he clearly lacks the experience to stand long against the storied warriors of Arx, the man definitely has potential and natural toughness. I hope he doesn't let up in learning combat, but it may be a good thing to let him find his own pace.

It has been an interesting week. In my pursuit of finding able teammates for the upcoming Grand Melee, I have become acquainted with yet another Prince Inquisitor who had arrived in Arx a few days prior. He took my invitation to join my team and I thought it prudent to test his skills.

He, uh, needs some work. But he is not without natural toughness. Unsurprising, given his line of work. It seems he has taken the initiative to prepare himself, so I expect him to show up and comport himself well.

Admiral Alrec approached me to join our merry band, but it looks like unexpected trouble at home will be tearing him away. A shame; he sounds like a fun guy to fight with and alongside. I can only hope I get another opportunity.

Mistress Eithne has completed my snazzy set of high steel armor, so even if I don't win I will at least look dashing losing!

Master Enzo has hired me to furnish his shop, which is going through some hefty renovations. I have completed the loveseat designs and now all I need is the materials, but I think I will let him take a peek at the sketches to see if they're to his liking before I continue.

I admit, after tasting a few of the wines and liquor, I was doubtful my submission would top them. The reasoning behind choosing that particularly brandy over a delectable wine - even over my own family's brewery - was that it needed to be noticeably different in order to distinguish itself. And I bet somewhat on the wealthier commoners being in attendance, too, and I was more familiar with their palates. It seems hanging out at Trader's all the time finally paid off!

For my efforts, Lady Dawn graciously rewarded me the quill she had been given for House Grayson's victory. I think it may be the most expensive quill in all the land, and it fits in my hand quite well! I'm using it right now. You might notice the lack of dripping.

My vote went to Mountain's Thunder. The hint of mint kept it from truly thundering in my mouth, but it was a noteworthy touch which put it ahead of my list. I quite enjoyed the citrus-y Valardin white wine and the White City Cider, too. House Valardin is not to be underestimated when it comes to interesting alcoholic concoctions; I can tell they're willing to experiment and have a wide range of flavors available to them.

Stone Mountain White Whisky was popular. I guess some people like to be metaphorically punched by their drinks. I am not one of them.

Prince Edain has sent me a commission requesting a large table with a map carved into it's tabletop. This one will have to be left up to me: my apprentices are not cartographers. Thinking oak or white cedar so the map isn't difficult to distinguish.

We'll see.

Master Callum is thrilled that Lady Dawn had purchased the rocking chair he had made and I swear he must have grown three inches taller the instant I told him.

Master Enzo is right in his sentiment to see the common youth skilled and aspiring. As much as we respect the nobility for their fair governance and dignity, it is wise to remember that the cogs of civilization are worked by the hands of the lower castes and without them we would perish.

Finished my pieces for Market Day. They're a little unconventional, save for the table; the latter of which can't fit within the booth and will have to be set-up elsewhere, I'm afraid. It might be my favorite piece, though.

Lady Dawn sent me a nice letter of thanks for having attended the hunt and held Game Night, which was a good way to start the day. Grayson royalty treat their commoners well, I must say. It may explain why they're so good at stewardship.

Relationship Note on Fergus

A skilled warrior prince and a very blunt individual, I find I enjoy Prince Fergus's company. He would make an enjoyable drinking buddy or sparring partner, but I think I ought to figure out a way to actually harm if I seriously want to pursue him for the latter; otherwise I'll just be giving him more and more ammo to mock me with.

Relationship Note on Malorie

A Valardin princess with a notable interest in horses. My interactions with her have so far been pleasant. She has taken an interest in the care of my aging gelding, Theodore, and currently cares for my next warhorse I intend to use when my trusty stead officially retires. I suspect she is a very caring, empathic individual - the world could always use more of those.

Relationship Note on Ophelia

Truly a delight to interact with, I believe Princess Ophelia may be one of the few people in existence who is capable of cheering up the Prince Inquisitor. She also has a penchant for skillful bird murder, which is an asset to any hunting party who wishes to have a buffet consisting of more than one meat.

Relationship Note on Enzo

I have officially began to hoard Master Enzo's paintings and jewelry. As thanks for my consistent patronage, he has gifted me a lovely painting without charge.

I approve.

Relationship Note on Dawn

Lady Dawn is a recent acquaintance, I'm almost ashamed to say. I first corresponded with her when she invited me to a Market Day she was planning, and later when she requested a wardrobe. It ended up being my best piece thus far, and she rewarded me quite handsomely for it.

I got to know her better when we both joined Prince Edain's and Princess Malorie's hunt. She is competitive! And knows how to use a bow, apparently.

She later attended Game Night and befriended Hammar. It was quite the gesture. I have a feeling she may be the ruler a nation can only dream of, but may not necessarily ever get.

Relationship Note on Jessamine

Mistress Jessamine is the current manager of the Trader's Tavern, one of my favorite watering holes. She let me host Game Night, and seems open to holding more such events in the future.

She is a bright, sunny girl with a penchant for lighting up the room. Her generosity is noteworthy.

Relationship Note on Niccolo

I confess Duke Niccolo Velenosa is quickly becoming one of my favorite noblemen. He is dignified without being uptight and easy to provoke, and seems willing to pledge his wealth to good causes. He is not quite what I expected!

Relationship Note on Hammar

A simple but well-meaning fellow, who beat all of us at the first Game Night and took home the purse. Lady Dawn seems to have made quite the impression on him; I can only hope his renewed self-confidence lasts.

Game Night went well! Perhaps even far better than I intended. I got compliments on both the decor and the card game, and I believe even those who didn't partake in the game came away with something. I will have to hold another sometime soon.

I hope this leads to a bump in business for Mistress Jessamine. I sent her a gift for her efforts; her staff was gracious and prompt and small changes in decor were a nice touch.

I participated in a hunt earlier in the day, the one held by Prince Edain and Princess Malorie. Prince Edain was notably the most learned and skilled of the bunch, but I hope I did leave a good impression. House Grayson didn't end up winning the bet, but I at least managed to wound the beast!

Thanks to the generous Duke Velenosa my bank account isn't so pitiful any more. I made sure to give Acacia credit where credit is due.

Lady Dawn has extended an invite to me to partake in a Market Day she intends to plan soon. It looks like I'll be chopping up a lot of wood!

Game Night will be a good break, I think.

Decided to go with a bed for the raffle prize. Hopefully whoever wins it has somewhere to put it.

Bank account has pretty much run dry.

Will finish Duke Niccolo's fancy couches before the deadline.

Callum and Jon are big fans of Acacia now...

Need sleep. Zzz.

I have devised my own card game to present at Game Night.

This will either go swimmingly or incredibly awry, but I'm still dreadfully curious.
